    Primary in Secret Harbour?

Hello We will be moving to Perth in Jan 2010 and was looking at Secret Harbour. We have 2 children, Lauren (who will be 10 on Saturday!) and Samuel (7). We were wondering if anyone had any info good and bad of primary schools in this area. Was also wondering about Secondary schools as judging by other posts these seem to be more of a problem. Any info would be very grateful. It's the most important thing on my list, to settle beside a decent school. Thanks, Wendy

  3. I have friends who have just moved to Secret Harbour who have asked me to enquire on PIO if anyone who lives there can recomend any good doctors and dentists in the area. Thanks. Ian

    Secret Harbour

Hi All My family and I are thinking about emigrating to oz for a better lifestyle. We have been looking at Secret Harbour which looks fab. We have sons aged 11, 8 and 3 and was wondering whether SH would suit them. If we are not near the beach or lucky enough to have a pool what other activities are there to do esp for my 11 and 8 year old? Are there parks and children's football clubs etc for kids to partake in? Also what are the surrounding subs of SH like? Are there any places in SH to avoid? which schools are the best for all three sons? Speak soon Kim

    Mechanic needed in secret harbour

Can anyone help My OH has a Holden Combo Van which has been very reliable and starts every time..until last week and it now keeps cutting out when driving and not starting for work in the morning. It does have an immobiliser fitted which we are not sure if it is to do with that, but do not know how to disconnect..it may not even be that. Anyone know of any mechanics in this area that are honest and reliable and are not going to rip us off with an hourly charge to find the fault! Any helpd would be gratefully received. Sue

    12 weeks in Secret Harbour

Well we have been here in Perth now 12 weeks this week. We are still in Secret Harbour and still love it!!! We have now got a long term rental, which feels like home. Kids are in school and they are enjoying especially the 6 year old. He is thriving at Comet Bay Primary. Work wise not doing quite what he done in the UK but his confidence has trebled and he is full of questions all the time. He is also doing swimming lessons at the State Swim School here in Secret Habour and is doing very well. He had lessons in the UK, private and school lessons, and already the difference in their teaching is astounding. They concentrate on how you swim not the distance you can swim! Though my son can swim a length - his style was almost like drowning dog style!!! He has made a lot of friends and already organising his birthday bowling party!lol My Husband got laid off at work (he was working for an Agency), but the company took him on direct - so more job security. So all in all he has had 3 weeks off work since being here. We are very lucky this has happened and it really is who you know. If he had not got on with the agency he would not have known the foreman, as it was him who gave him a reference for a perm. job. He has managed to take HR lessons and pass his test $800 well spent!! That is someting he can fall back on. It looks like the compnay he is working for is also going to put him through his machine license, so that will save a few hundred dollars. I have a few friends now, all made from PIO and go off to bingo once a week, have won a few times!! I am not a bingo person but it gets me out from the house, I do not work. I still struggle with the shopping..where to go and what to buy, but will get there I am sure. Still waiting for a TFN number..as a returning resident I cannot just apply online and the hassle I am having is so annoying, you speak to someone one day and you come off thinking good will get it tomorrow and then when it doesn't come I phone again and low and behold told something different and totally contridicts everything you have been told. Still waiting...does not matter what country, government officials and call centres are all the bloody same!!!! We have been to loads of places now and still love going out weekends exploring, something we could not do in the UK. Husband worked Monday to Saturday, I worked every evening and Saturday pms and all day Sunday till 8pm just to get by!! Here I do not need to work so we are able to get out and about. This is what we wanted so for that we are grateful..everything else is a bonus. We are much more contented as a family and are happier than we have been for a very long time. We even go cycling!! Still trying to understand how grown women can go to get takeways on a Saturday evening in pjs and slippers!!! Any way just really to say we are loving Secret Harbour and enjoying Perth and hope to continue loving it!!! Sue xx

  11. Can ayone advise on any good soccer clubs around Perth our son is 10 and is frustrated with training on offer at his local club not getting the same standard as he was receiving in the UK current club run by parents and although they do their best it's not the same standard. We are looking for clubs with qualified coaches? Any advice greatly appreciated.

    2 weeks in secret harbour

Well it is now 2 weeks today that we arrived in Perth and started living our dream!!!! We love it. Scarey at first but soon got into it. Rental is lovely..will be sad to move out in 4 weeks. Kids love the beaches - been to beaches from Sorento down to Mandurah. We are still amazed that you can drive up to a beach side car park find a parking space and not have to pay!!!! Roads are easy to drive on and road signs are great. Our bank has been very helpful and pointed us in the right direction for a few things..like getting tax forms from newsagents!!! Bought a car changed licenses over and within 1 week my husband has started work just outside Mandurah laying storm drains. We had started to get worried before coming as it did not look good for jobs but it seems to have worked for us. Our 6 year old starts school on Thursday and then I need to look at getting the 14 year old off to school. We have been shocked at some prices of goods - secondhand cars are soo expensive and cost of sending kids to school!!!! but nobody told us to come here so you just have to ride with it and do not keep comparing to the UK. We have never eaten so much red meat!!!! Hubby going to take his HR license at the beginning of june so that will hopefully open up some more jobs. All this was easy as well and the ladies at the licensing office were very helpful has has every Australian we have come across in shops and just walking around...always willing to help and point you in the right direction!!! No way will we not return to UK we are home!!!!!! Good luck to everyone who comes from the UK to here. Sue

  16. Hi Guys Well we arrived Wednesday last week, weather absolutely beautiful it has been around 30+ everyday since our arrival. Although probably still very much in holiday mode it is as they say awesome here. The pace of life is so slow compared to the UK everyone is absolutely lovely just so friendly. The food just seems to taste so much fresher than the UK. We have a slight problem in deciding where to live we really like two areas in particular at the mo which are Secret Harbour or Rockingham, we have read lots of positive things regarding Secret Harbour over the past months I just wondered if anyone could help with Rockingham the beach is absolutely beautiful the area as a whole looks fantastic is there anyone with children out there that live or have lived in Rockingham? Any help or feedback would be warmly received.:jiggy:
  17. Hi there! We have always been dead set on going to Melbourne, however have recently had a change of heart and now really fancy Perth! We have our visas and are just waiting for house to sell here. We are coming for a reccie to validate visas in May and wondered if anyone knows of any suburbs similar to Secret Harbour. My husband is a golfer and so would love to be within a stone throw of the course. Proximity to the beach would also be great. We have stumbled across Secret Harbour which looks fab. Are there any other similar developments? Thanks a lot. Rach

  23. I have just finished reading 'The Secret River' by Kate Grenville... Based in 1806 it tells the story of William Thornhill a waterman on the River Thames... who makes a bad mistake and instead of being sent to the gallows is deported with the rest of his family to New South Wales.... It is a very sad novel, very atmospheric.. and really gets you thinking... especially about the profound effect we had on Australias native people.. If anyone has the time... have a read min x:wubclub:

    Mindarie or Secret Harbour

Please could anyone give us some advise on these two places we are keen to live in either but don't know too much about them. I know one is NOR and the other is SOR, we are not really bothered about commuting times so that is not an issue. A big thank you in advance for all replies greatly appreciated.:daydreaming:
