Hello, Can anyone recommend a good primary school in Perth so we can start to look at areas to live?
  2. Hi we are hoping to be in Toowoomba in August and have been looking online at several schools for our 14 year old son. any advice on schools in this area would be very much appreciated. thank you:cool:
  3. Hello, I am still in the process of moving to Oz with my partner and my son, 9 year old. I will be on sponsored work visa and on 55k salary. ( based on my research it might be a bit low for Sydney - but depends if my partner can get work ). My question is tied into the last sentence... if my family comes with me, will my partner be allow to work? His current job title is Sales Representative ( technical products - health and safety matting products to commercial buildings) which we noticed is on demand occupation list on Australian Government website. Also we would like to be close to Sydney but at the same time in a nice area with good schools and shopping centres. Can anyone please suggest good suburbs outside Sydney? Thanks
  4. Hi, me and my family are moving to Mooroolbark on the 11th August this year! I have a 9 year old son and i am struggling on what school to choose. Does anyone have any advice on schools in this area? Thanks, Tracey.

    Kids starting new schools

Hey there, we are moving to the sunshine coast in august, we have two girls aged 9 and 11 and was just after some info on how other children at a similar age have found starting school, freinds etc.
  7. We are hoping to move to Perth before the end of this year and have three kids 11,7 and 2. Looking to live around south perth applecross or west perth wembly downs, cottesloe areas. Family and friends in austrailia have advised us to go for private catholic schools but we are not keen on massive fees. Are there good state schools which cater well for overseas students (we are coming fro Ireland) and provide european languages etc.?? I am particularly worried about my eldest son who will need to transfer to secondary school within the first two years and there is always a chance that we will not stay beyond our 4 year visa and he might struggle back in Ireland with the different cirriculum. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :confused:
  8. We are hoping to move to Mornington late August possibly.I am sure this has been discussed before and have been searching lots, but I have a 13yr old daughter and am looking for a State secondary school that is reasonable/not a particularly bad rep to send her to. Heard mixed reports about Mornington secondary to be honest, also wanted to know if anyone knew much about Dromana secondary school? I hear there is a state one in Frankston also that is much sought after. Any advice much appreciated. She would be currently heading towards 3rd year in September if staying here, not sure what grade/year she would fall into ver there, as I believe they start school a little later. Thanks in advance folks...

    State Schools NOR PERTH

Hi there, I have been reading and reading through lots of helpful posts on here. I'm just slowly starting to build a picture of how things work schools wise and the SOR/NOR divide. Schools are so important for me. We have 3 children, the eldest goes to a 'good' school here in the UK, small, friendly and she enjoys learning. She's very sensitive and I feel would struggle in a tougher larger school. Originally planning to look around Willetton, but now it looks as though my hubby may have a job offer NOR, possibly closer to Joondalup area. The overwhelming feedback from people seems to be that there are a handful of good state high schools and otherwise people go private. At present this really isn't an option for us. The only state high school that I have heard very good things about NOR is Churchlands, but as always I understand that the suburbs/catchment area is expensive. I guess I would really like some honest information about any schools NOR. I have lots of links providing individual school summaries, but no real comparison and it's difficult to get a good picture of social things such as friendliness and bullying from individual websites. I'd really appreciate any feedback about any state high schools and indeed state primaries as I have 2 younger boys. Thanks so much Rachel

Hi, I'm a midwife going to be working at Sandringham Hospital starting October. Going to plan to arrive in Sept. Bayside is a bit too expensive for me to live so I was thinking of Cheltenham or around there. Is Cheltenahm a decent suburb? And what are the best secondary colleges in that area? Thanks, Clare
  14. I've got 2 teenagers, my daughter who is 16 has just finished her GCSE's and about to start college doing psychology and health and social care, and my son is 13 and just started year 9. It'll be next summer I think before we get out visa, and I'm concerned about their transition into the Oz school system. Can anyone advise me on the difference between the Engilsh and Oz education system please. My son is very bright and far enough away from his GCSE's so I think he'll be OK. My daughter though will have finished her 1st year of college by the time me move, and I'm concerned she may not want to re-do any school years and might want to move back to the UK, spoilling all our fun... Has anyone got any advice, or been in a similar position? Thanks in advance.
  15. Hey there I have been offered a job in Canberra on a 119 permanent residency visa. I have no idea regarding areas to live and schools for my children, I have a baby and then a 5 year old (just finished first year in school here in Ireland), 8 year old and a 10 year old. Preferably state schools as I can;t afford fees for 3! Any help would be greatly appreciated, they have suggested I could be there as quick as 3 months, is this possible? Thanks in advance S x

    sydney schools

We are moving to sydney with 12 yr old twins who have just almost completed yr 7, assuming when we get there they will continue in yr 7 until dec but am a bit unsure. We are moving to hunters hill, drummoyne five dock are , nothing set in stone may even be roselle, and just wondered if anyone could recomend any good state high schools. I am aware of the fees we have to pay as we are temp resident on a 457. Another question may sound a bit silly if you go to a not too expensive private school do you still have to pay the temp resident fees to the gov and school fees.

  22. Hi Guys, i've been offered sponsorship from a company based in Milton, Brisbane and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for commutable suburbs with good schools. For some reason I am assuming as Milton is north of the river that I should be looking for north of the river for easier commute but I'm only guessing on that one. I would be looking for 3 bed house paying no more than $450-$500 per week. Fairly close to beach would be nice (not essential) and near trainline perhaps travelling no more than 45mins would be ideal. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  23. Hi all We are due to vist Sydney in August and I wanted to have a look around the local primary schools in the Castle Hill area for my son. We are not planning to move straight away so he may be 6 or 7 years old by the time he starts there. Does anyone have any experience with schools in this area that are worth looking at. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lisa

    Secondary Schools in Geelong

We are due to move to Barwon Heads, near Geelong July 2012. Does anyone have advice on secondary schools in Geelong. Are the state schools good in Australia, as there seems to be a huge amount of fee paying schools and I was wondering why.
