  5. I just wondered what people's general opinions are on the relocation programmes about moving to Oz? I used to watch them all the time before I came to Oz, after we'd decided for ourselves it was worth applying for the visa. I thought they were useful for getting an insight into the areas we were interested in, but I did wish they included more info on how the schooling/banking systems (and so on) work over here. Has watching these programmes made anyone actually want to make the move or did you just watch them after you'd made the decision? I know some PiO' ers have featured in some of the programmes and it would be great to hear their thoughts on this too! Sue x
  6. Hi, Does anyone know how I can get my money back from a re-location agency? I used the **************** to manage our visa application and paid their sister company, *************** about £900 by cheque (would not accept mc/visa!) to assist in relocating issues. Unfortunately **************** went bust and dragged the *************** name with them. I had contact with Areyou who claimed to be formally *************** in June 09 but have not been able to get a response from them since that time. Is there a way that I can get my money back or at least report them? Both *************** and Areyou were Australia based. Any help would be much appreciated as I hate being ripped off! Thanks.

  10. For those who are eligible for a 1 year working holiday visa or a permanent residency visa here are a few tips that will drastically increase your chances of finding employment in Australia in today’s market. 1. Get a professional CV done before you go, if you are already there then get one done ASAP. 2. Do not spend all your savings in your first 2 weeks and end up penny less when job hunting. 3. Buy a car as soon as you arrive. 4. Do some market research before you leave, find out where there is work for the skills you have on offer. 5. If your occupation needs an Australian Licence or registration – get it done before you go. If you don’t know if your occupation needs a licence then find out ASAP. 6. If your occupation is not in demand then try to apply to companies directly and not through an employment/recruitment agency. 7. Portray yourself as someone looking for a long term job. 8. Buy or have the money to buy the tools of your trade 9. If you are eligible to apply for permanent residency then do it ASAP. 10. Take the first job you get – you can always look for a new job later. 11. I have just had a newsletter through and thought that some may be interested in a job and relocation expo event in Edinburgh. It is of no interest to us as we are already in Australia but it may be of great use to some of our PIO members. The address it gives is the Carlton Hotel in Central Edinburgh and is on Sunday May 17th between 10am and 3pm. Some of the highlights they are advertising are: Recruitment teams to talk about your career prospects in Australia Bank and Finance Companies to discuss your money needs Migration Companies Removal Companies Travel and Pension Insurance Australia & New Zealand Magazine. They will also be joined on the day by the South Australia and Western Australia migration units as well as If anyone is interested it says the show is free to attend but you need to give them a call to reserve your place 01943 872200 Hope some of you find it useful:wubclub:

  16. Hi All, Just wondered if anyone has gone for a job from the uk, that states a respectable salary, visa sponsorship, relocation, flights & fees paid? Are they all that they are cracked up to be? Would love to hear from anyone that has gone for this!
  17. Hi there, My family and I are in the very earliest stages of thinking about emigrating to Oz and we're thinking about putting an application in for a skilled visa (Independent Migrant Visa - Subclass 175) under my wifes current occupation as a physiotherapist. My query surrounds the period of time after obtaining a permanent skilled visa that we can resettle in Australia and how long after the visa is activated we could wait to make the move without placing the extension of the visa at risk at the end of the 5 year term. If for example we obtained a visa, but our circumstances meant we needed to delay the move, the rules of the Resident Return Visa imply that we must have spent at least 2 years out of the last 5 in Australia. In practical terms, we're interpreting this that you actually have to relocate within 3 years of activating a permanent visa otherwise you cannot accrue the minimum 2 years before the visa comes up for renewal after 5 years. What would happen at time of renewal if for example we relocated 4 years or more after activating the visa ? From the looks of the information we have found so far, it suggests that our visa may not be extended and we would not be allowed to stay ? Any guidance or experience anyone has with this visa and how it works would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Glen

    Relocation Agents?

My partner and I are flying to Brisbane on 26th and arrive there at 6:20am on 28th November. We have been looking at booking a hotel for our first ten days until we find somewhere to rent but feel that if we don't find somewhere we might end up spending all our funds in a hotel whilst we look. I was thinking that maybe a relocation agent might be a good option as I was told that they can view a rental property for you? Can they also secure the rental for arrival? Does anyone know what packages and prices they offer for this type of service as this may be a better option for us to know we have somewhere to live when we arrive. Any agents out there who can offer advice on this, much appreciated as we seem to be running out of time:radar:
  19. We're due to arrive in Melbourne on Jan 2nd ('09) and while we have temporary accomodation for the month of Jan in Glen Waverley, I am starting to stress (because I always have to stress about something) about the whole rental situation that is apparently so diabolical in Melbourne. I will be working in Clayton and it would be nice to live close by (within a 30 minute commute) but you dont seem to get much for your money in Mount/Glen Waverley, being the nearest suburb (other than Clayton which we have been put off by other people). I've started looking towards Rowville where you seem to get more for your money, is there a reason for this? Can anyone advise on the suburbs? Finally, would it be worth getting a relocation agent to do the leg work for us, I will start work on Jan 19th and with 2 small children, it will be difficult for OH to look at places and decide upon. Can anyone advise reputable relocation agents that dont cost the earth to make our lives a little easier?????? Thank you.
  20. I 've heard that it can be quite difficult to rent property in Oz but by using a relocation agent it makes it easier. Can somebody tell me if this is the case please. Ange

  22. Hi Can any1 recommend a good relocation agent for Perth? Thanks :wubclub:
  23. We arrive in Brisbane on 30th September, and after a few weeks in the company apartment we will need to furnish an apartment in the city centre. Our relocation allowance can cover the following items, can anyone recommend some good department stores where we should be able to buy these items? Or are we better off going round a few different places? Any advice is welcome. Furniture: Bed and mattress Bedside tables Lounge Suite or sofa Dining Table and Chairs Electrical: Refrigerator Washing Machine Clothes Dryer Microwave Television DVD Player Stereo Vacuum Cleaner Fan

  25. HI, Has anyone used the Moving to Melbourne relocation assistance company. I see they post on here quite frequently and their service looks pretty handy and could be really useful for us. Also their short term lets look quite attractive for the initial move (we don't have anywhere to stay at the moment !!!) Would just like to know if anyone has used them in the past and whether they were all that they claim to be ? Cheers
