    Passport query?

Hi everyone We've 2 children aged 8 & 12 and their passport is due to expire in 2009. We have got the visas and are expecting to be in Perth by November this year. My query is how do we go about renewing the kids uk passports whilst in Oz? I know that to beocme an Australian citizen (which we fully intend to do) you need to reside in Oz for 3 years but can you renew the UK passport by overseas post once you're living in Australia?I am thinking of when we may want to travel back to the UK for hols etc. Mandy
  2. Hi Alan, Peter & Tony (using alphabetical order!) I have had a query from a couple who are not members of this forum and neither is their child in Oz so far as I know. I absolutely do not have a clue what the right answer might be so I am totally stuck. You all know that I did my mother's CP visa on little more than a wing, a prayer and a heckuva lot of solid hard graft but that I 'skimped on' (ie skipped) every consideration that was not relevant to Mum. I do NOT do these visas for a living, as you all know, and some of the questions that people ask me stump me completely, as has the question today. The Parents appear to be eligible for a Contrbutory Parent visa. They say it is a solid marriage. Their son has approached a Registered Migration Agent in Oz who has come up with an idea that I can only describe as 'novel.' Apparently the RMA has recommended that only one of the Parents need apply for a CP visa and that they can say that the other does not intend to migrate at this stage. The RMA says that once the first Parent has a validated CP visa, he/she can apply for a Spouse visa for the other Parent, thereby saving the family some $30,000 bucks. Reading between the lines I suspect that the RMA is none too sure about whether this notion would work because I am told that he is also saying that if the POPC refuse to buy in to Plan A, the second Parent can be added to the CP application at any time during the processing period, thus creating Plan B. To plagiarise a remark made by Alan Collett not long ago, my personal gut-instinct is that it is not worth the potential hassle and potential emotional pain of trying to allow the financial tail to wag the visa dog, but that is only my personal opinion and I could easily be completely wrong about how to interpret the relevant bits of the legislation. Maybe this Agent's Clever Wheeze would work? I simply do not know. I am between a rock and a hard place on this one as all 3 of you can imagine. I can't say, "Nonsense" because I don't know for sure whether or not the notion is nonsense. It is plainly an attractive idea - if it would work. Please, please, guys, help me because at the moment I am stalling for time. The idea sounds too glib to me but I could be hopelessly wrong. There could actually be a glaring loophole which I have not spotted? Very, VERY many thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer for me to pass on. Regards to you all Gill :arghh:

query re my son student visa

My son is 21, is it possible for him to go to australia as a student and do an apprenticeship course at a college for a trade on the skills shortage such as joiner which would lead him to an australian qualification and eventually would this give him permanent residencey?
  5. Hi All I have just seen a highly intriguing theory on another forum and, as with the "split visa" Idea, I do not know the answer, so any help from the experts would be most gratefully received. The theory runs thus: The Grant of Australian Citizenship will cancel the CP 143 visa. (Will it?) If so, then all the Conditions attached to the CP 143 should disappear with the Citizenship Grant. If so, then we can forget about the Bond - which should become instantly refundable in full, we can forget about State Benefits which the CP 143 holder cannot claim without incurring penalties whilst a non-Citizen, and we ought to be able to forget about the CP 143 holder also being unable to claim the Australian Age Pension for 10 years as well. I CAN see the logic of the original question, asked on Thinking Australia. Plus with the recent nonsense (in my opinion) confirming that the "Split Visa Strategy" for Parents is "not unlawful", the drafting of the legislation could be up for grabs on this new point as well? I would be MORE THAN grateful for any advice anyone can offer about this new question, please .Very many thanks, as always Gill
  6. Hi all Visa finally went off today after having to wait for letters from accountant, inland revenue etc as OH is self-employed. We are also trying to get our daughter on our application who is 18 you need proof that they are still financially dependant on you. So we had to wait for a letter from her NVQ placements, also bank statements and payslips had to be sent. Anyone else managed/trying to get their 18 yr old on their visa? Julie

    136 & spouse query

My OH is applying under the skills as his trade is on the 'wanted' list. Its his last chance coz of age. We have only recently moved in together. I have agreed to go with him and my ex has given permission and signed stat dec for my kids to go too. Can someone please advise on what we need to do to prove we live together. He has moved into my house and renting out his for now. We have informed the council tax and he is registered at this address. we have opened up a joint bank account. we have holidays booked and can get testimony that we have a 'true' relationship. One agent has said that we also need to put each others names on our title deeds to the houses and make wills leaving everything to each other? Is this correct? what other evidence do we need.

    Armed Forces Pension Query

    mortgage advisor query?

Can anyone tell me if I have read a post ,quite a while ago about a mortgage advisor who quoted a post on here..she was living in brisbane but i cant remember her name...any help would be great...........
  11. Hi, my OH is joining the ADF through the lateral transfer process and we are currently waiting for our visas, we submitted the application first week in Feb and he has a start date of 3rd July. My daughters are both in the Scottish Education System with the eldest daughter finishing her Advanced Highers this summer and the youngest finishing her GCSEs (Intermediate 2s). Our dilemma is that the eldest has had several acceptances for Uni starting in September and has to accept a place and apply for her grant very soon. I'm hoping that the visa will come through in the next few weeks but what happens if it doesn't? I wish there was a way to find out where we stand. I can't think of anything in the application that would cause us problems other than the fact that our youngest daughter has Type 1 Diabetes and I know that this can throw up questions. Her medical was sent with a report from the Diabetic Clinic that she attends. Does anyone have experience with Diabetes and the Visa process? I contacted the Doctor who was at the interviews and he didn't think there would be a problem as she is young and fit with the Diabetes fairly well regulated (for a teenager!) with a lifetime of paying tax ahead of her. Any advice gratefully accepted!!!

    Spouse Visa Query

Hi I have just received an email from my Case Officer to say that my medicals have been sent away to Oz for clearance. Should I be worried? I thought these were assessed in London. If anyone has been in a similar situation please let me know. Thanks for your help.

    Chatroom Query

Hi All In the chatoroom last Friday night, a pop-up window suddenly appeared, and Felicity Broughton and I were having a private chat in this pop-up window. THis was very useful. It would have been the quickest way for Jo & I to discuss what to do about the guy who was upsetting a few people, but I couldn't figure out what to do to set up a private chat-space with Jo. Please could someone tell me how to do this? I guess you click on Add? But then what do you do, please? Thanks Gill

    Pension query

We’re a family of four. I’m 44 and my wife is 43. My wife and I have a mixture of personal pensions, deferred final salary pensions and, of course, there’s the UK state pension to consider. Is it an unrealistic question to ask what the implications are for the pensions should we decide to migrate from UK to OZ? Any other pension related advice for potential migrants. (I’m particularly concerned about moving the existing pensions)

    Just A Query

Hiya, myself and my children and my partner who is a kiwi are looking to go to OZ sometime within the next 12- 18 months. I have been told by OZ immigration that i can get a temporary visa ( 461 ) . The probalem is that we have been together for only 10 months now and he has only been living at mine 5 days a week for about 7 months. He has just sold his house and is now living here, BUT,..... we have no joint bank acct or is he on any of my bills. I of course DO tho have his work car and are on his car insurance thru an agreement with his boss so we have very limited evidence to produce but family and friends have said no problem to any stat declerations etc. Has anybody been or are in a similar predicament and does anybody have any advice as to what to send with the forms. any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers. Visa Query

Hello, I am new to the site and I must say I have found the forum really helpful with lots of information for moving to Australia. I am curently just waiting on my skills assessment coming back form the nursing board and then intend on applying for the visa . I am a bit unsure about a few things on the application and wondered if anyone could help. I am applying for the skilled independant visa subclass 136 . With regard to English capability --I take it you just say you are a uk citizen and therfore this is enough to prove your English competence????.. Regarding work experience do you have to send pay slips as well as a letter of reference and is it only one letter???? Sorry if this sounds basic, but want to provide all the info they are after. Thank you May
  17. :?: Have received request for 2nd VAC and this to be paid by 18th October - could someone advise me please - we need to make payment by a bank cheque drawn on an Australian Bank or drawn on a bank that has representation in Australia. Please can someone verify that we can have a bank draft drawn up from our a/c at Barclays Bank as they are linked with Westpac in Oz? Our local bank seem a bit vague although my OH has spoken to someone by phone at Barclays who said it would be o.k.????

    Contributory Parent Query

Hi all I'm looking for advice from anyone whose visa has involved a Mandatory Assurance of Support, please. With CP Visas, there is an AoS plus a second visa-application charge (2nd VAC.) My sister lodged the Bond yesterday and took the necessary proof of that to Centrelink. Yesterday she also sent the POPC a Bank Draft for the 2nd VAC. The POPC will definitely receive it on Monday, and Centrelink are now in a position where they can also do whatever they need to. For good measure, my sister has also sent the POPC copies of the papers she gave Centrelink after lodging the bond. Has anyone any idea how long it is now likely to take until the visa is granted? Would it normally be days, or is it more likely to be weeks? My anclent, widowed Mum is the applicant. Her birthday is 19 Sepember. Her wedding anniversary is 29 September. If it is realistic to hope for the visa the week after next, I would like to ask both Centrelink and DIMA to try to gear up to grant the visa on Mum's birthday if possible - it would be the best prezzy in the world for her. If not, then I'm hoping we might be able to engineer the Grant for 29 September instead, but either way the plan is to keep schtum with Mum and let it be a surprise. Any advice/information would be very gratefully received. Many thanks, Gill

    Help required with CSA query

I would like to know if anyone could help me and my husband with a question that we have, as we are finding it difficult to get an answer. We are moving to Australia at the end of August next year and my husband has an 8 year old son from a previous relationship who will be staying behind with his natural mother. Dave is currently paying child maintenance through an organisation called CSA on a weekly basis. Our question is what do we do when we leave the UK as my husband wants to still pay for his son, but would rather give it straight to the mother so he knows his son will see all of it and not the government, the only problem is that the mother is on income support and all the other benefits as she is classed as disabled, would this affect her payments if she was getting money straight from my Dave into her bank acct as her payments are subsidised by the local council due to being a single mother etc. We really don't know where we stand legally or what we are to do in this circumstance.
