  1. Hi all I received this reply Dear Mr H Thank you for your email in relation to your visa application under Australia's General Skilled Migration program. As a case officer has requested health checks for your family and it is state nominated we MIGHT consider processing this application. The time of processing is likely to be related to when the health checks expire and as they don,t expire until October next year then it MIGHT be a long time before any more processing if any happens. If you read the following policy statement you will hopefully understand the reason for my answer. The Department is processing applications according to Ministerial Direction No. 42 - Order of consideration - certain Skilled Migration visas. The Department anticipates that a small number of State sponsored non-CSL applications will be finalised this program year. Finalisations will focus on applications where health and character checks have been requested by the case officer. I must re-iterate that there are no guarantees on allocation of or decision on your application. Yours sincerely, R Butler for General Skilled Migration Department of Immigration and Citizenship Has anyone had a similar reply to this and what does 'MIGHT' mean and 'any more processing, if any'........ Can anyone shed any light on this. Many thanks Helen x

    Passport Photos from Australia Post

Hi Guys. Just wondering if anyone has had passport photos taken at Australia Post at all? If so, did you cut them in to 4? The woman at the post office told me not to cut them, but that goes against sending two correctly sized photos to the passport mob. I ended up cutting them in 4 (the Aus Post ones have a black guideline to cut the 4), and sending two (one countersigned on back) off with my application. Anyway just wondering if anyone used Australia Post for their passport photos and if you had any issues at all. I'm off to the UK in about 8 weeks. Can't wait. Cheers Matt

Visa app lost in the post

Hey Guys, I'm applying for a Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (Subclass 119/857) from here in the UK. My employer/sponsor sent my final stage visa app on to the Parramatta Centre of Excellence (Sydney) about 2 weeks ago for me from QLD. I'm worried. I haven't received a confirmation or receipt that they've got it yet. Should I have? We have lost the receipt from Aus Post that had the tracking number on it for the recorded delivery. So I have no idea where it is. Should I be worried that its lost or am I overreacting. Would hate to have to put it all together again.
  5. Hubs and I eat out a lot and seem to be doing it more and more at the moment, mainly because we are camping out in an unfurnished rental and are coping with just a wok and a panini press  So I thought it would be an idea to share our eating out experiences so that people know where to try and where to avoid. Please join in and post you foodie reviews here! Thanks Emma x

P85, where do I post it

I have moved down under recently and I am compleating a P85 form Tax form for leaving the UK. I now have my P45 to get my tax back and it says on the form "return the original to the above office" however there isn't an address to send it to. I did get the form from the tax office in Preston, so should I send it to that tax office or is there a particular address I should send it to? Anyone got the address I can send it to Cheers
  10. So we all go out now and again and take random pictures of our stunning surroundings, so how about us all posting a few pictures here? I'll start :jiggy: photo from when i went to motocross at Conondale, just west of Maleny on the sunny coast.
  11. We have fallen at the first hurdle  On Monday I applied to Victoria for state sponsorship and have already received a very speedy reply saying that they cannot process my application as I do not meet the work experience criteria. They very kindly attached a link to the DIAC website which states that you must have been - in an occupation listed on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) - for at least 20 hours a week - in a paid position - for at least 12 of the 24 months immediately before lodging your visa application. And I meet this criteria!!!! So I wrote back and asked them to elaborate and have now been told that I must have 2 years 'post study' work experience. (I have 16months) I have spoken to scores of people both in and outside of the immigration dept before applying yet nobody mentioned this. I am gutted that I had not come across this information in my research.... and I am yet to find where it is stated. Can anybody shed some light on this for me...? Thank you.

  13. Hello, havent been on here for a while, been back to oz this yr to decide if its what we want to do. Come to the decision that we both want to give it a go and try and get over there! Contacted a couple of agents throught them free online assessment thingys and it comes back positive, my trade being a maintenance fitter and having HNC as highest qualification. One agent go back to me and said that I required 4 years experience, but it wasnt clear whether that was post training, I've completed a 4 year apprenticeship, or including the apprenticeship. If it is post trainng then I'm going to have to wait till July before thinking about it again. Can anyone clear shed any light on this or have any experience with this? We're both also thinking of going to the Manchester expo in a week and a half, do you think this is a good idea? I'm 25 and my wife is 26 and she is a teaching assistant with a BTEC childhood studies nursery nursing national diploma and working towards completion of a foundation degree in the integrated Education and care of young people. Would this fulfil the requirement for a "childcare co-ordinator"?? Any advice would be appreciated! cheers

    Post Gone Missing

Hi Guys, I recently had some stuff sent over from the UK, and it never arrived with me, after tracking down the parcel id etc, Australia Post claimed to have delivered it, when i went into my local post office, they said the parcel was signed for by a T.Yang? Does anyone have any advice on where i stand with this? Thanks in advance
  18. Hi there, Does anyone know if there is a time limit as to when you can ship your goods over after arriving in Australia and avoid import duties? In the UK you have 12 months, wondering if Australia has something similar? I asked the "goverment" and the person I spoke to had no idea one way or the other  Cheers

    First Post In Oz!!!!!

Well Hi there to all who know's us. Finally we have the chance to say how we are getting on over here and say hi. Sorry if you think we had forgotten about you all, but things have been a bit hectic as finding a permanent rental was not as easy as we thought it would be as many families turned up to the houses we liked and we kept missing out, so took a while, but we finally got one, a lovely four bed bungalow with loads of room for the girls to move around in. We only got the internet sorted a couple of days ago (boy that was not easy) but at least we have it up and running now which is really good as we got to speak to family on Skype over the weekend. Well what can I say about Mornington, Melbourne? So far it is a friendly enough place, it has a lovely beach and parks for the girls, which is something we did not have in our area so we are really looking forward to the summer as we have been told it is a really great place to be in the summer. To be honest, it is a bit more expensive here for certain things than we thought it was going to be, like, cars, toiletries, some shopping items, broadband, especially for what you get as you don't get unlimited use like in the UK, you have to pay for what you are going to be using per month. When you arrive and take out car insurance, make sure you read the excess charges, as we found out the hard way, poor Tam only had his Ute 6 days and had an accident (he ok) shame about the Ute though!!!!! we were told about the excess being $500, but when he put in the claim he was told it would be $800 as there was an extra $300 charge as he had not held an Australian licence for 2 years (we had not read the small print), so please be aware of this!!!!:arghh: Tam had his graduation a week after we arrived here to collect his award from Victoria University for doing his Vetassess in Carpentry. It was a really lovely afternoon and we were so glad we decided to come over and let him collect it in person. It was at Melbourne Racecourse. We were so chuffed. Tam has also started his new job. He did not get much time to settle into Austalian life as he started just 2 weeks after we arrived here. He is getting on OK, but finds some of the early starts a bit hard when he has to be in Melbourne for 7am as he has to leave home at 5.20am to beat the traffic. We flew over here with Emirates and we could not praise them enough. They were fantastic with the girls and it was a really good flight and easy. We flew from Glasgow to Dubai with a couple of hours stop over then straight onto Melbourne arriving a little early. The only problem we had was sat nav would not register for about an hour so we had no way of knowing where we were going:arghh:, but we got there in the end. We got our eldest into school as soon as we could and she is loving it, she has settled really well and made lots of new friends and our youngest goes to kinder 3 times a week, also loving it. I can't believe how much they have settled in here. It is like they have always known it. They have had a couple of upset times, and the weekend was hard when they saw family on Skype, but they are doing really well. I have done a few sets of nails since I have been here also, but the competition is very difficult here. There are alot of the Asian nail bars where you are in and out in no time at all, and there are also many other nail places, but I have not heard of any mobile nail technicians in the area, so maybe I will be ok. Well I hope I have not bored you all, and I hope I have given you a little insight into what we have been up to since we have arrived, and I will be back again once we are more settled and have more news for you. Take care and good luck to everyone, I look forward to reading and catching up very soon with all that has been going on since we have been away. Hugs Andi, Tam and the girls. xx

  23. Hey All. Has been a while since i was on, but we are now in OZ!! Hurrah!! Had a great flight from the UK to Singapore on the A380. Would recomend it to everyone. The Singapore to Brisbane leg was less impressive but was OK. Arrived Friday night was Very hot, then a 40 min drive to Flagstone(near Jimboomba) to our friends house where we stayed for 10 days. Flagstone is very nice, a bit too quiet for my likeing and you cant get Broadband just dial up ARRGGHH!!. You do see Kangaroos though! lol. Nikki Started working at the Mater Hospital and she loves it, so much better than the NHS hospital back in the UK. Im still on the job hunt, but enjoying the relaxed days, something will turn up soon. We have just moved into a stunning 4 bed rental home in Springfield Lakes, minutes from the shops & main Lake. Its an ex Show House so we have a few extra perks!!Was soooooo easy to get the house we couldn't believe it. I would advise anyone coming over to sort out your banks, driving licenses, medicare etc as soon as possible as this helps with the points for renting and it moved the process on quicker. The Schools seem to be a lot different to the UK, but are still V good. Would advise not to look at Woodcrest Collage as isnt much cop! Will explain if anyone wants to know! Overall we are loving it here and are definatley staying put!! Good Luck to all you peeps moving over, you hopefully wont regret it! Dave&Nikki. PS. Oh yeah forgot to mention, the OZ/Queensland Government seem to want to give you money all the time! its great better than the UK who take i off ya! Will expand on this if you want to know! Dave
  24. We got it!!!!!!!!! Still shaking and crying from the sheer relief that we have finally got our visa!!!!!!!!! Perth here we come. Thank you so much to everyone who posts on this website it has been the single most invaluable website I have used since starting the process especially as we have done it without an agent. To all of you waiting good luck. Claire xxx
