  7. Hi all, I'm considering renting a property with an in-ground pool in one of Melbourne's southeastern suburbs. I've never had any experience with owning/maintaining a pool before so I don't want to make a huge mistake here. Could I get some advice on this? I couldn't find a decent forum for Australian pool owners, so I had to put it here. Here are some of my questions: 1) Most importantly, how much will it cost me in maintenance? The pool is about the size of the second picture in the webpage below. Found a website that says it's about AU450 per year in chemicals, water, filters, bills, etc. Coming from a pool maintenance website, I'm hesitant to believe this. Swimming Pools > Australia I guess I'm willing to put in time to keep the cost down, as opposed to hiring pool cleaning companies. 2) If there are any issues with cracking, pump not working or filters, will the landlord normally cover the expenses? I know I'll have to double-check the agreement later. But, what is the norm? 3) What condition should the pool be when I move in? At the moment it's got quite a bit of algae & I can't see the bottom. Is this a big warning sign? The water is pretty full & so I'm assuming there shouldn't be any cracks. Should the landlord get the pool in order before I move in? 4) Anything else I should be aware of? My wife and I are pretty excited about getting a place with a pool to entertain our friends. But we want to be sure it's something that we can manage. Cheers!!!
  8. Hi This is a long shot but i have looked on the real estate site and really cant find much with a pool with a budget of up to $400 per week. Want to be anywhere from Warner to Morayfield areas. So as a long shot is there anybody leaving a minimum 3 bed house with a pool that would like to pass on the info so i can jump in quickly and contact the agent. Am i even going to get a pool for $400 a week? Cheers if you can help
  9. Hubs and I are coming to Oz on the 27th Oct, we need a 3 month furnished rental pref with a pool in Subiaco and one that will accept visa / credit card as payment (best way for hubs to claim his expenses back as his employer is footing the bill) Does anyone have any ideas as we are struggling with the 3 month thing, most are 6 months. Thanks Emma

Do you have/Are you having a Pool?

Hi, Do you have or will you be buying a property with a pool? This is something that I dream of having, my boys love swimming & I could think of nothing better than family days spent around the pool, pool parties etc! :jiggy: However, alot of emails im recieving from estate agents detailing properties dont have pools, I know this is VERY early days & im not seriously looking, just being nosey, but im wondering, are they still popular, especially in the newer style houses? Kelly
  12. Hi Has anyone had a pool put in, is it a lot of aggro and is it expensive? I know it'll depend on surround and size, but just a rough idea, not olympic sized but not standing shoulder to shoulder if the whole family decide to dip at once!!!!!!! Also, can anyone recommend a website where I can have a look? Cheers Sheena
  13. Just wondering about worst case scenarios etc, but has anyone ever been 'pooled' and then awarded a visa during the 2 year waiting time? Have done a search and the only example I can find is someone going into the 'pool' as an error and then being rescued! Feeling very up and down at the moment as concerned that Mrs Imp may not have enough experience to get the 5 partner points and that we will be stranded on 115 points and my skill is not on any of the State Skilled Occupation Lists! Bugger bugger bugger. (anyway, I do kinda like the uk, honest I do, would not mind staying one little bit!) Crikey this whole process is sooooo up and down!!!!!

    Out of the pool, yippeeeeeeee

As some of you know I got pooled! on Tuesday I got this from my agent Good news! Your case officer has acknowledged her mistake and is going to re-review your file! Thank goodness for that, I knew she made a mistake, the agent knew, we all blinkin well knew so I felt sick all day, reality hits again oh my goodness:goofy: it's getting nearer, it's gonna happen so now I am waiting for the prepared med forms, I need to book med's put the house on the market proper (not low key) and wait for the next pile of poo to hit the fan, I cannot believe that we will get to the end without at least one more glitch, but that's OK cos I can take it, I am going to live in Oz, plenty of time for the laid back life once I get there:twitcy: and I could not come here to shout it out because none of my computers were working :arghh: now I am going to see what I have missed on here this week x

Buying a house with a pool

Coming from the welsh valleys I have very little understanding in the cost of a house pool and its maintenance. If I were to buy a house how much should I estimate to spend each year on filter changes ,pump maintenace etc and what should we look for in terms of a fualty, poorly constructed pool. Dont want it to collapse whilst drinking some tinnies. Cheers Ed

    pool covers in Oz

Does anyone have or know about the pool covers that you can walk on so they are 100% child proof, have just seen one in England and wondered if they do them there and can you have them fitted to an existing pool or do you need to have them fitted the same time as the pool. This would just help us decide whether to purchase a house with pool or without.:daydreaming: Many thanks Marina
  17. Hiya moving to Pacific Pines this year and just wondered does it cost you to have your pool filled up, due to the water shortage? my brother in law who lives in Brisbane seems to think so, they also monitor your water usage. Sarahx
