    Swimming pool advice please

We have a pool, a reasonable size and a kidney shape. Now the chlorine and ph levels are spot on, but it keeps going green. I regularly have to brush down the sides due to the build up of algae. It is not a heated pool, so we have a pool cover on it. Any advice please or what can I get for it that will take it back to being clear and sparkling again? Thank you Claire
  2. Hi I am thinking of going to queensland later this year and thinking of going into the swimming pool industry or air conditioning indusrty, but i was just wondering if I need a licence at all even if I worked under someones supervision for either of these things. I would be glad to hear of someone. Thanks Alistair
  3. Just wondered if anyone is in the same situ as me? I now have only 110 points and under the 175 would now enter 'the pool' for a max of 2 yrs. This seems insane to me as it's such an expensive visa in the first place to risk not been considered at all. I can't imagine anyone would risk it. I am a nurse who doesn't want to go for state sponsorship as I don't like the idea of been tied in for so long. Any advice much appreciated!

  6. Would anyone like to car pool to the girls night? I have been here one week, and would love to go, but am not sure about driving around the city. I could do it if others are with me though! Or if you are happy to drive, i could share petrol, e tag costs etc. If interested, let me know Jenny
  7. Hi there Can anyone tell me the cost implications of owning a swimming pool in Oz. We would like our new life to be everything and more - A typical I am sure. One of the things on our hypothetical wish list is a house with a swimming pool. Do swimming pools cost a lot to maintain on a yearly basis. Or should we just go to the beach? No jibes - were British! ta Smell

    Pool Warning

I've just sat down after an extremely harrowing experience. My kids have been playing in the pool this afternoon with their 2 mates who are staying in an apartment just across the gardens. The communal pool is made up of a large pool and a small kids paddling pool about 3 feet deep. When the kids are playing in the big pool i can arrange the patio furniture so i can watch them and am no more that 2/3 seconds away but the kids pool is obscured by a tree. Anyway the kids and their mates were paying in the kids pool (only waist high on them) and i hear their mum screeming, i run over and the dad is yanking the kids arm from a drain that sucks the water into the filter pump. The kids had managed to remove the cover and one of them had has hand sucked in, he was under for about a minute and was not breathing and blue when he came up. Me and the mum put him in the recovery position and slapped his back and thank god he started breathing. He's gone to the hospital now for checks and i pray he's OK. Don't know what the moral of this story is except check your grates are screwed down securely, watch your kids constantly and cherish them (i havn't stopped hugging mine)
  9. We are looking to break our lease on the property we are currently renting because we have purchased a home. It's located in a beautiful new gated community of North Lakes Queensland (just north of Brisbane about 30 minutes). Spacious 3 bedroom 2 bath villa available now. Modern 3 bedroom villa in a gated complex. Ensuite and WIR. Modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances including dishwasher. Air conditioned living areas. Fans in all bedrooms. DLUG. Water included. Pool and BBQ amenities within complex. You get all the amenities with none of the up keep. Yard maintenance is included in the rent. Close to schools, shops and childcare facilities. Bus stop at side entrance to complex. No Pets. This is a perfect little complex which makes it easy to meet people. Because the property managers also live in the complex they are more easy going in regards to rental applications. If interested or would like pictures please email camelon4@bigpond.com or post. We need this rented ASAP. Cheers, Melissa

  11. Hi all Due to our business expanding into other areas of the pool industry,we have made a decision to split up the maintenance side into a completely separate entity. Therefore we are offering to the right person/persons an opportunity to buy an already successful business which comes with a large established customer base. Why bother with a franchise when everything you earn in this business is your own. This opportunity provides an instant income plus profits. Experience not essential as training will be provided. For further details please contact via thread or pm Many thanks

  13. Hi all, Peter has very kindly sent this to me, I don't think he would mind me sharing it with all of you. Another good article that points people to the mess that has been created yet again. Dear Friends, Colleagues and Associates Please excuse the unsolicited email, but given your interest in migration matters I thought you might be interested in my take on the big changes announced on Feb 8 by Minister Evans – see: From queue to pool: skilled migration gets a makeover | Inside Story Corrections, criticisms and other feedback would be welcome. 16. ok ... I've been asking questions galore. I am waiting in the que for W.A. sponsership so then I could apply for a (non CSL) 176 visa......I asked....'Should I make an application for a 175 visa given the present climate with visa's'......... problem here is I only have 115 points and it seems I need 120 points. So my thinking was take an IELTS english test get the extra points and apply for the visa then. Extra cost is involved (£105.00) but the hardest part is trying to get booked onto a course. Now then, during reading up on the immi.gov.au website regarding elegability there is a paragraph that states....'If you score less than 120 points but more than 100 points your application will be placed in reserve (the 'pool') and will remain in the pool for two (2) years after assessment. If the pass mark is lowered at any time during the two (2) year period, and your score is equal to or higher than the new pass mark, your application will then be processed further.' My thinking is ....apply for a 175 now with 115 points and get 'pooled'. Hopefully in the process of time receive my sponsership from W.A. which enables a score of 100 and ask under these circumstances to change my application to a 176 visa. Is my thinking sound???.......(Q1) Would I be able to bring my application out of the 'pool' state with S.S. and continue with a 176 visa ????. (Q2)..If this is possible how easy is it to change visa's if say you applied online ????.... Suppose a sub-question here would be .....(Q3)..If I didnt get my S.S. would I be able to take an IELTS test and submit it towards my previously applied for 175 visa to bring it out of 'pooled' state given then I would have more than enough points ???????........ Has anyone reading had experience of this, can anyone offer their advise ? Carlos
  17. Hi all, we broke-lease recently to move into a house of our own. If you are a family looking for an immediately available house with 4 bedrooms, a large garden, a pool and a playhouse then the house we moved from is at Cartwright Property Group The house is in Corinda, a old leafy suburb, and just across the road from a bushland park. 10 minutes walk to Corinda station from which it's about 15 or 20 min into Brisbane CBD. They are even throwing in garden and pool maintenance. Cheers, Tom

  21. Hi, we are off to validate our visas very soon. Hooray, cannot wait. Can anyone recommend holiday accommodation, being a chalet, self catering etc for 13 nights 3 adults and 2 kids, then our friends are coming down for 3 nights to be with us, so that will make a total of 4 adults and 3 kids. We would if possible all like to stop in one unit - dont know if its possible. Somewhere on the coast along from Glenelg, Brighton, Henley Beach, West Lakes, Grange, somewhere within easy and short travelling distance to Adelaide Centre. Thank you. I have looked on many sites, but alot of them only accommodate max of 6.
  22. CHRISTMAS TRIP ! Well Perth seems to be a real busy place at Christmas time! We are looking for a villa with a pool have tried most local agents who advise all the nice ones are booked. Just wondered if anyone had any contacts or had a friend who's not with an agent that may have room at the inn. Happy to be anywhere from Hillary's, Butler, Mindarie, Brighton, all surrounding areas.
