    Nurse Question?

  2. Hi its been i while since ive been on here with the thought of emigrating. Now we have decided to do it and need some advice and thoughts from the members here. I am 40 yrs old and my wifes 38. My children are 12, 10, 7 and 3. my wifes a RGN nurse which is i understand is good but the thing is i am not skilled which is a bit of a worry to us both. I do have however a Masters Degree in Advanced Manufaturing and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Welding and Fabrication. But i havent used the theory since year 2000 and forgotten most of it. I would like to think i could get a job over there with out an apprentiship utilising my manufaturing degree and get a job within that sector. I do have a offshore and medical cert as well which i do work offshore in the uk waters as a trainee ROV pilot but thers not much call for that in Australia. We would like to know how much qualified nurses get monthly and would it be enough to live on (rent, food, bills, etc) until i find a job? regards Andy

    Nurse moving to Oz

Hi, my name is Emma. I'm planning a move over to Oz next year (Melbourne) where I hope to work as a nurse under the 136a independent skilled visa. I am making the move on my own so it obviously appears a bit daunting at the moment!!! I have a few questions and any advice would be great, also if there is any one else out there planning something similar it would be great to hear from you. I am hoping to have my skills assessment and the visa application sent by January time, when am I likely to be appointed a case officer? I know this is hard to answer but the reason I ask is I am planning to be in Greece from June-September next year and I don't know whether to: A: Apply in January and front load my medical and police check before I go to Greece around May time, regardless of if I had been apointed a CO. or B: Send the visa application in just before I go in May, then the time I am in Greece would be the time waiting for a CO. My worry with this is that medical and police checks would be requested before I got back. How long do you have after the medical and police checks are requested to submit them? If any one could help with any of this I would be very grateful.
  7. I've cut and pasted this from my 'Info on Sydney' thread, as the reforms are federal (meaning they affect the whole country). IR Laws: If you are a nurse or any other type of manual worker, driver etc I would strongly urge you to do some reading and research on recent changes to Australia's Industrial Relation Laws. It's the biggest workplace reform in Australia's history and seriously affects the rights of these types of workers. The Government calls them Work Choices but there seems little choice involved for those affected. These laws don't affect me as I'm a white collar professional but they do affect people whose wages are based on 'awards' (kind of a national wage scale) I don't pretend to know the ins and outs but they are pertenent particularly to new arrivals or those changing jobs. Just make sure you are aware of them.
