  1. Hey Guys and Gals, Our plans for emigrating to Oz are accelerating at a quick rate of knots, and I thought that we should try and organise another North West social gathering before we depart at the end of July. We're due to exchange on our house next week and, completely unexpectedly, I now have an offer for a position in Brisbane! So, at some stage next week we'll be booking flights, temporary accommodation and shipping. Happy days! :wubclub: So...how is everyone fixed for another meet-up? Was thinking mid-June - say the 12/13th or the 19/20th. Answers on a forum post please and we'll get something organised.
  2. Hey. Does anyone have a boarding kennel they would recmmend North of the River? We are going to Melbourne for 5 days and need to put our Cocker Spaniel in kennels. This will be her first time in kennels, so would really like somewhere nice & recommended if poss. Thanks

  4. Hi Was wondering people still in Uk in the Construction industry ie joiners, shop fitters, what is the situation really like, is there a lot of work, are companys setting on ie shopfitting, a friend of ours who is a contracts manager for commercial sector, telephoned yesterday and he said the contstruction industry is knackered, the polish builders undercutting english, nothing wrong in that by the way just wondering how the land lies? was just wondering if he was exagerating?
  5. We are looking to break our lease on the property we are currently renting because we have purchased a home. It's located in a beautiful new gated community of North Lakes Queensland (just north of Brisbane about 30 minutes). Spacious 3 bedroom 2 bath villa available now. Modern 3 bedroom villa in a gated complex. Ensuite and WIR. Modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances including dishwasher. Air conditioned living areas. Fans in all bedrooms. DLUG. Water included. Pool and BBQ amenities within complex. You get all the amenities with none of the up keep. Yard maintenance is included in the rent. Close to schools, shops and childcare facilities. Bus stop at side entrance to complex. No Pets. This is a perfect little complex which makes it easy to meet people. Because the property managers also live in the complex they are more easy going in regards to rental applications. If interested or would like pictures please email camelon4@bigpond.com or post. We need this rented ASAP. Cheers, Melissa

    North Lakes

Hi just wandering if anyone knows of any schools in North Lakes or around that area carnt seem to find any all i can find are private. Thanks Rowena
  9. Hi, we're thinking of moving up to the northside of Brisbane as Richard now has a job based in the CBD, and it's a fair commute every day, (plus with our ping-ponging, house prices on the coast are a bit out of our reach now as we're pretty skint!!) House prices in Kallangur and surrounding areas seem pretty reasonable, but we don't know too much about the area, and which schools are any good. We would get a rental to start, and I'd like to try and get it in the catchment of a good school to be sure of places. I'd like one that has before and after school care (for if I ever manage to get a job), hence North Lakes and Kallangur State schools. Does anyone have kids at either school who could comment, or even info about the area would be appreciated? My kids are in Prep and Year 1. Thanks, Jo :wubclub:
  10. :smile:Hi are you looking for a good English hairdresser? I've recently moved to Perth and am working in a brilliant salon in Wangara. I have 24 years experience. Back in the UK I owned my own salon for 11 years. For the last 7 years in the UK I was a mobile hairdresser. So all up I was selfemployed for 18 years, and made a good living from it. I've decided to have a change and work in somebody elses salon, and I love it!! If you are looking for a friendly salon come and see me TRACEY at HAIRIZON. We are tucked away in Wangara on Irwin Road. Surrounding areas are Woodvale, Kingsley, Pearsall, Hocking, Wanneroo Egdewater, Darch, Madeley. Fancy a coffee, a chat:chatterbox: and good service all at reasonable prices ....... easy parking right outside too!! Hope to see ya soon Tracey x We also have creative nails by Gill in the salon.
  11. Good evening, I have tried this before without success - but hey I'm desperate so I will give it another go. I am pretty sure there is no-one on this site who lives anywhere near me, say within 30k's (any farther than that is not practical for me) but maybe someone knows people or has relatives around here. So if you know anyone in these towns who might be prepared to offer some kindness and welcome to a very miserable, single outsider please ask them if they would be interested in meeting me for lunch, or even inviting me to a BBQ, anything really, I promise to be clean and tidy, smile and not spit on the floor. ..... Here goes: Wangaratta. Cobram Yarrawonga Mulwala Corowa Numurka Tungamah. Benalla. Its very small town around here and people don't seem interested in involving outsiders. When I have tried to do anything I have been frozen out, its pretty upsetting at times. I don’t smoke, drink a little occasionally, not into religion (religion is big out here) I am reasonably fit (I am going for a bike ride tomorrow – it gets me out and I can do it on my own). I do business with people but that’s different from having people to be with on a personal or social level - I like dogs so I can’t be all bad. Can’t remember the last time I had a real conversation (how are you today from a supermarket checkout operator does not count) or went out socially. After so many years in isolation my social skills may not be the best but you would hope people might make some allowances and show some consideration for how difficult things are for me and show some support and kindness. If you do know of anyone can you ask them if they are willing to get in touch - I don't want to approach anyone without their permission because it’s a bit of a liberty and if they brush me off (as they have every right to do) it gets embarrassing and depressing.
  12. Hi All, We land in Brisbane in November and have short term accomodation sorted South of Brisbane. My hubby works in manufacturing and we want to house hunt in the area where he has a job. However, he may not have a job before we get our longer term rental, so can anyone tell me the areas where manufacturing is centred so that we can decide on North or South? Thanks for your help. KJJ

    Schools in North Brisbane

We are planning a reccie to Brisbane in July. As part of the trip we want to enrol our two girls (ages 14 and 10) into a school for a few weeks to give them a real feel for what school life would be like in Australia. We are looking at schools in North Brisbane. Has anyone had any experience with St. Paul's School in Bald Hills? Many thanks.

  19. Hi All, My wife and I emigrated on a permanent visa to sydney from dorset about 2 years ago and are seriously thinking about relocating to the central coast due to the outrageous property prices in sydney (especially on the northern beaches where we are currently). We are thinking avoca beach/north avoca/terrigal. We are both in our early 30's and have just had a baby boy 3 months ago. Has anybody got any ideas how we might meet people in a similar situation to ourselves around avoca beach / terrigal? I think my wife is a little bit nervous about moving away from her 'new mum friends' she has met during her pregnancy. Can anybody who has relocated recently give any advice/feedback? It would be greatly appreciated. Really crap questions I know but buying a house in a location where we have never really spent much time is pretty scary. thanks.

  21. Hi, We're planning to make a permanent move to the Joondalup area in the next year or two - only just started the process - but I'm planning to take my horse with me (yes I'm completely crackers!) and would like to know if anyone has any information on stabling? I need to have him cared for as I'll be working so any idea on places that do this, how they do it, how much it is and any advice on how any other British horses have coped with the climate would be great. A lot to ask for but it's really important to me! Thanks!
  22. Hi all, i am getting no jobs done at home because i can't stop reading all the info on this brilliant site!!!! Anyway, just wanted to pick someone's brain again.....we (me,hubby & 2 girls aged 12 & 9 + 1 dog) are heading out to live there in October & looking at the sunshine coast. I've read that Caloundra & North Lakes are both nice family areas to settle in. I just wondered if anyone had any more info on these places, or if someone can recommend anywhere else for us to look at? Good schools is important, we'd love to be near a beach & parks for the kids etc....Basically, just a good all round family area. I am so terrified of ending up in a not so good area & it making me regret my decision to emmigrate straight away. Please can someone help before my brain explodes!!! I seriously need to make some decisions & get some sleep at night! Sarah x
  23. Hello everyone - can anyone throw the names of any shipping companies at me who they might have used recently - need to get a couple out for quotes next week, used Pickfords coming here but suspect they won't be the cheapest for going back home. What sort of price would a 20' container be?? I am guessing around $8k?? Thanks
  24. Hi guys we are looking for an accountant. They would need to be in and around North Brisbane. My husband is a self employed and we are wanting to set up a trust and need good advice. We are looking for someone long term that also has some knowledge of the U.K end as we have two properties which we have left. Please can anyone recommend someone they are using or have used, or any accountants out there that we can discuss with. Regards Del Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Each Other! :biglaugh:
  25. Hi all, I was wondering if anybody has been north of perth - up to Geraldton, Carnarvon etc. Looking at some of the tourist stuff there, it looks like paradise, but unless there is a good job, a decent house and a good school for the kids.... We are still only researching at the moment, and are willing to go to wherever the jobs are, but the area looked so nice. Any info would be appreciated Emma:cute:
