I would like to know about the schools, community?? I have also heard that there is a plan for a rail connection, does anyone have any info on this?? many thanks! Martin

  6.:wacko:We are moving to Perth next year and are looking at living in the Ocean reef area. The public school there is called Ocean reef senior school. Does anyone have and good/bad feedback. On there website they have a section for drugs support for pupils. Is this the norm for senior schools or has this school got a problem? I hear the catholic schools are good I am catholic but my son who will be 17 next year is C of E Would this be a problem getting him into a Catholic school? We are flexible where we live North of Perth as I understand some schools admissions works on the catchment area of where you live. Therefore Im trying to sort out a school before a house. Mindarie senior college sounds good, anyone got any inside knowledge? Any help would be appreciated.
  7. Hi - hope someone can help. We are moving to the Sydney area in April, and have visited lots of sites and had a lot of info about primary schools for our 6yr old twins. We are looking at either State or Catholic Schools, and are likely to be moving to the Upper North Shore area - so we've been looking at places like Wahroonga, Waitari, Hornsby, Asquith and the like. Can anyone give some info on the best schools in the area - we've visited lots of sites and they all seem to have good and bad points - so any information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. If need be, we will move location to be near a better school - my work is in Crows Nest - so happy to get the train to wherever. Hope someone can advise Thanks - James
  8. Hi, I was feeling quite confident but after reading some of the threads on PIO... I'm in need of a bit of reassurance.. or reality...!! Myself and my partner are moving to Sydney 1st September. I will be working in Belrose and Teresa is working in Bondi Junction... both on 457 visas with existing employers... My salary is $75k including a car and hers is $65k We are looking at renting in Gordon / Pymble... 2 questions.. Are our salaries sufficient to rent in Gordon / Pymble... and... what are those areas like to live in..? Thanks! Glyn
  9. Hi there, Me and my family are going to Perth in March 2011 for 6 weeks to check it out and make sure its somewhere we want to live before we apply for our visas. I have heard a lot of things about different suburbs north and south of the river and the general consensus if that north is full of English and some of them are not that desirable......this is obviously not what we want as that's one of the reasons why we want to move from England. We live near London at the mo and would like a quiet life in Oz for our family, we have a young son who is only 5 months at the mo and plan to have a couple more children eventually. Can anyone recommend any nice suburbs not to far in the sticks but where therer are nice family people and good schools? We have a friend who lives in Fremantle but think we would like somewhere quieter than this. Also what are the commutes like in to the city? I am an accountant and im hoping I will get a job outside of Perth but if not I will need to commute! Any help would be much appreciated  Thanks
  10. Hi hope some of you might be able to give me some options as to how to pick a school in North Sydney we are due to arrive at the end of the year, I was hoping that some of you that have looked into schools or that have put your children into schools could give me an idea of why you choose them what it was that attracted you to the school, did you go down the route of a private school, state school or normal state school. We are looking at the Frenches forest area, however for the right school we are happy to live elsewhere. If you could give me an idea of some schools so I can contact them rather than my standard blanket email I am sending out to all of them. Kids are girls aged ( will be 8 when we arrive and 5 ) are in years 3 and 1 here in the UK. Many thanks in advance for your input.
  11. Just wondering if anyone has any info/insights into this high school. Family moving to West Pennant Hills area and apparently this is the high school we'd be zoned for. Their website doesn't really give away much but they are a small school with just over 500 students; don't know if this is a good or a bad thing. My daughter would be starting Yr 9. Can't find much on the academic abilities so keep wondering whether I should try to get her into one of the other high schools like Pennant Hills or Cherrybrook, but again not sure about their out of zone policies and whether we would have a better chance with her starting Yr 9. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks.

New to Canberra - Inner North

My wife and I are relatively new to Canberra and looking to expand our social circle. We are in our late 20s/early 30s and both are British, but have been in Australia for a few years. We live in the Inner North, and would love to meet up with other Brits who are also looking to make friends in Canberra. I'm suggesting a meet up at the Wig and Pen in Civic, on Wednesday 22 Sept at 7.00, for a couple of bevvies and a chat. Please let me know if you are available on that night, or suggest a different night if the 22nd doesnt suit you!

  17. :chatterbox:Hello Everyone, My family and I are thinking about moving to Mirboo North in Victoria. We are currently living and working in Port Vila, Vanuatu. I am a Chef and my husband is an electrician. It is lovely here but the backstabbing and gossip is getting to us. The expats here can be brutal!!! We have been offered jobs in Townsville or Mirboo. From what I have heard about Townsville I'm not sure I want to go there. All we want is a place where people are nice to each other. We have a little girl who will be turning 3 in October and we just want a nice and safe place for here to grow up. We migrated to Sydney 4 years ago and did not like it there too much so we came here for a year to work but now we are going back to Oz. We just want to make the right decision. Can anyone help us?????

Hi! Moved from the UK to Box Hill North in November 2009, with hubby and 13 year old daughter and son 12years. Was wondering if there was any pommes living nearby who fancied meeting up for a coffee (or glass of wine!) Hope to hear from someone! Joanne x
  19. Hi we have just moved to Sydney and I have found work in Chatswood. Where would you recommend we live? Have looked on real estate website and North Ryde seem reasonable, but would like any other feedback members might have. We are in Woolloomooloo at the mo which is pretty central but expensive. Or is there anywhere else you would recommend not too far to travel to work. Thanks

  22. We are moving to Sydney and are looking to rent on the North Shore. What I can't seem to find out is how long it will take in peak time to drive from one to the other. My husband work is initially based at the Rocks but will relocate to Lane Cove. We want to live somewhere that won't take him more than an hour to drive to CBD from North Shore. We have two children (1 primary and 1 high school) so looking for nice family/community based suburbs with decent schools. I've been told to look at areas like Killara, Chatswood, Lindfield, Pymble, etc, but still not sure if my husband could drive to The Rocks from one of these suburbs in an hour. Any advice would be great, also other areas on North Shore that we should look at with an hours commute. Thanks.

Suburbs in the north of Brissie

Hi I wanted to find out what Caboolture,Morayfield, Berpengary, kallanger, North lakes or other suburbs in this region were like to live. Got 2 young children and want to be able to access TAFE and industrial areas easily. Wanted to find out the reality of travel to the beach and to the city. How long does it reallly take to get from Caboolture to city. Or Caboolture to beach. Wanted a good shopping centre so whats the time from Caboolture to North lakes? Are these areas attractive to live and is there much going on? Any info on any area in the reion would be great. I have done a little research but want people who live there to give me the lowdown. Thankyou folks
