We are reeling from two of the most stressful weeks of our lives. To cut a very long story short, we completed an online assessment, based on my occupation of office manager. We were told I qualified but had insufficient time to have a skills assessment and lodge a visa application before my 45th birthday (which is on Mon). With a huge amount of help from an incredibly supportive member of this forum, we managed to beat every obstacle that was thrown at us (and there were a few!), we got all the certified documents and forms over to OZ in good time. We also managed to persuade the skills assessment people to turn our application around in two or three days, but my diploma in business managment was given a negative result. I have been an office manager for five years and am now a business manager, but experience does'nt count! We are gutted! I am so disappointed that my experience could not be considered and that a piece of paper I qualified for many years ago and bears no resemblance to my ability to function in my job was the only criteria on which they judged capability to contribute to the Australian workforce. I have to say though, how much I admire them for the way they look after their own citizens first and the trouble they take to ensure that anyone entering their country will not be a drain on their economy. I don't know if the same is true of the UK. We are now both "too old" for an independant visa. Any ideas anyone?
Another bearish housing article - negative equity has spread to Brisbane as the country's property downturn continues to slug investors. http://www.in2perspective.com/nr/2006/09/australia-slides-into-negative-equity.jsp George
