  1. Hi all, We are just trying to decide on whether to apply for the above visa now or whether we go out to Oz on a WHV and apply once out there..how long (roughly) are these visas taking to be granted at present? Thanks in advance peeps :-)
  2. A CHRONIC shortage of doctors is putting the lives of rural Queenslanders at risk. Babies are particularly vulnerable because of a steep decline in obstetric services. People in country areas are often forced to drive for hours to seek medical care and the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is struggling with increased case loads. Several regions are suffering extreme doctor shortages, with 30 GP vacancies in Central Queensland and 40 in regional centres along the east coast. More than eight Queensland towns are without a doctor, Health Workforce Queensland figures reveal. And there is a shortage of more than 300 doctors in Queensland hospitals. "The attitude with Queensland Health is 'You chose to live in the bush so it's your problem'," Rural Doctors Association Queensland president Dr "Alpha is a prime example. They have had no doctor for at least five years but mining ventures are now going in and Queensland Health is quibbling about supplying a paramedic for the town." And 40 per cent of doctors servicing Queensland's rural and regional communities are international medical graduates with limited experience. The RFDS said there had been a steady increase in its workload in Queensland. "Last year we transported 11,000 patients to hospital via aircraft and did 40,000 primary health care consultations," a spokeswoman said. Dr McPhee, a GP in Emerald for more than 20 years, said the message he was getting from Queensland Health was that they didn't have the money to justify care to people in rural areas. "There is a move towards centralisation, with the attitude 'There is no problem that can't be fixed by getting a faster plane'. But we have people with complex medical needs who have to drive for hours for help. Health care is chaotic for these people because they often don't get to see the same doctor," he said. The Commonwealth ratio for good medical practice is one doctor per 1000 people. Centres such as Blackwater have two doctors servicing 8000 people in the region, Tully has two doctors servicing 8000 people and Emerald one for every 1780 people. Queensland Health relies on locums to fill vacancies at a cost of $2000-plus a day, with an annual bill of tens of millions of dollars. Queensland Health acting deputy director-general Bronwyn Nardi said the department had increased the number of doctors employed by almost 15 per cent since March 2009, to 7683 in July this year. Ms Nardi defended the use of locums: "The overall cost is approximately 2 per cent of the value of our annual staff wages."

An agent told me that I only needed to have done more than 20 hours for that last 12 months but looking on the DIAC website it reads like it is for 3 years? If this is the case and I need to get an employer to sponsor me am I right in thinking I have to work full time? 10. My partner is currently working for a kitchen company in Brisbane and they need another kitchen fitter. If you have experience in kicthen fitting or are a carpenter joiner who wants to move into this field and learns quickly then let me know if you are interested. I am posting this as we struggled to find work when we first got here and are still in the process of sorting out his licenses but he is overseen by someone who has the appropriate licenses and so it is all above board. As the compnay is also struggling to find the right person, my partner is working long hours and so it would help him out if he can help find someone good to work with. If you want to know more then let me know and I can get him to contact you. Thanks, Leanne
  11. Hi there, i previously posted this in the wrong section so hope i have the right one this time. Any advice welcome im just looking for a bit of help for my trip. Bit of background. Currently just left university and looking to head over to Aus and experience life outside my small town. Was hoping to head somewhere hot and near the coast on a working holiday visa. Im not really into the big city life so first piece of advice id like is where should i head. Through the research i have done i think queensland would be an area id like to visit. Somewhere like Coolangatta or somewhere with a nice surf etc, any ideas? Would prefer somewhere not full of tourists but know this will be hard to avoid and probably necessary if i want to find work. Next question Im hoping to come as soon as the visa process will allow but travelling alone and away from family for the first time im concerned about Christmas on the other side of the world. Does anyone have any experience of this? Im seriously considering holding off until January for this reason. Final question (sorry for long post) Im pretty skint and will need to get a bank loan to come. Is there much chance of finding a stable job for the 6 months giving me the security of permanent accommodation etc. Thank you in advance

Can anyone let me know how I can find somewhere to rent, arrange this for when we arrive, and sort out furniture until ours arrives. We have been looking at northern suburbs of Perth up to Joondalup. What are good areas with good schooling etc. Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but we were planning on moving to SA initially, bunking with family initially, but a good job offer has come up in Perth that I would be daft to turn down. Now all our best laid plans for arrival have all been turn on their head! Any advice would be much appreciated

  18. Hi, I'm looking for a bit of advice. We are moving (back) to Aust at the end of the year. I have 2 kids, a girl who turns 4 in early Feb so I'm guessing she would do a year of kindy (?) next year. My son turned 11 in May and is starting secondary school in the UK next week. He is a young 11, quite immature for his age and incredibly easily led. I don't want him in a class full of older children and have pre warned him that he may do year 6 again which he is okay with - does this sound reasonable/possible?? I would really appreciate any input those who have been in similar circumstances can offer. Many thanks Tracey

My hubby is a retired firefighter and is looking to re-train, he would like to train as an electrician, but, does not want to waste time on qualifications that will not be accepted in Australia. 21. The company that I work for, PageUp People, is continuing to expand rapidly, and as a result is looking to hire experienced .Net developers to join our talented product development team. Although you may not have heard of PageUp People directly, if you ever applied for a job with Australia's biggest names in business - companies such as AMP, BHP Billiton, Coles, Commonwealth Bank, Fosters, Kmart, NAB and many more - you would have used our software to apply for that job. PageUp People is wholly owned Australia business, founded just over 10 years ago, and we provide Integrated Talent Management Solutions to our impressive list of blue-chip clients. To find out more about the business, please feel free to visit our website which can be found at www.pageuppeople.com. We are specifically looking for developers with experience in building .Net web applications, ideally using C#, and the ideal candidates would have between 3 and 5 years of commercial experience. Candidates with less experience should also apply if they feel they have the skills to add to our team. I have posted this information here because there may be the potential for the business to sponsor the successful candidate if they met the relevant criteria. You can check out the available positions on our careers website which can found here - www.pageuppeople.jobs If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
  22. Hi We arrive in Brisbane in Sept and are staying in Ormeau but need to secure a rental for as soon as we arrive, is there anyone on here that knows of anything becoming available? I have been looking on the real estate site but there is not a lot available and my friends in oz are saying that the rentals are going really quickly. If you know of any rentals please let me know. Thanks
  23. Hi guys, I've spent countless hours reading about the best palces to live in Sydney and still have so many options for us that I thought I would ask for all of your great advice. My wife and I (both 35) are moving to Sydney in Q1/Q2 next year. I will need to be within a reasonable commuting distance from the CBD. I don't mind train, bus (up to 45 mins) or a cycle (of up to 10 - 15KM). We want to be by the water - although not too worried about beach (sailing and fishing ability is more important than sand and surf). We're also bringing over our two cats - so looking for somewhere leafy and quiet, but with decent restaurants etc. We have a budget of $800 to $1000 per week and would be looking for a 3 bed house. We love the look of Avalon, but it just seems too much of a commute - is it an hour? (I currently do 1 1/2 hours into London on the train and getting away from this is part of the reason for moving). We've heard both good and bad things about the Shire (places on the Georges River). We like the look of the area, but we're young and into our art/music/cutlure and we hear the Shire is quite conservative and quiet (not that this is particularly bad - just what we are picking up from the web). Manly/Mosaman are in great locations - but for the money it looks like you'd end up living in a box. Balmain looks great - but is it too inner city / urban for our two (currently village living) cats? Any advice would be very welcome as I am sure many of you have had the same dilema... Many thanks, Mr Choo
  24. Hi, Im currently trying to complete form 47SP and have a couple of queries about a few of the questions I was hoping someone might be able to help me with: Question 9 – Should I just list my last visit to Australia, or all of my previous visits? Question 32 – How exact does the value of the value, goods and assets need to be? Is a rough estimation acceptable? Question 69 – I am married, so should the date for this question be the date of my marriage or the date we first started living together and so entered into a de facto relationship? Question 81 - Is it the end of the world if I can't remember every single country I have ever visited in the last 10 years? And how serious is it if I don't get the dates exactly spot on? Thanks for your help
