  1. Hi Guys, Okay i finally called an agent and put our plan to them but actually worded it in as O/H has already done course in refrigeration and air con mechanics and got one years experience (just a small white lie) he said we have a very good chance of a 175 visa which means PR yippeeee although have to say he was very vague and wasn't too happy about the free consultation me thinks so anyway he told us that O/H would have to go through the TRA and i forgot to ask what the requirements were for this regarding what quals and how many years experience are generally needed to pass, have looked on the TRA website and can't find the info on this so if anyone has gone through the TRA for refrigeration and air con and can give some advice that would be great many thanks xx
  2. Hoping to move to WA in near future with family / paper visa aplied for April 08 still waiting im very patient apart from wife always asking why other people seem to have visa granted WITHIN FEW MONTHS.(this can happen every night) So today started to sort out tools ready to take to WA (wife not happy:wacko:) tools had to be cleaned so i gave them a cycle in our dish washer, well recomended:mask: Im a mature self employed fully qualified HD mechanic ( 25 years in the trade) and will end up in the mines as to earn the salary my wife has come acustomed to, if any mechanics in the visa system already please feel free to comment on your journey so far. Ive got question such as / does Australian vehicles have EOBD how many tools do you take (i could fill a container on my own ) welders, compressors take them or leave them Do the mines provide tools I have been in the trade 25years and collected tools from whiteworth to digital wrenches and find it hard to just leave that loved spanner you have had from your apprentiship ( what wife cannot understand is my affection to my tools as any mechanic will know you spend more hours per day with your tools than your wife ) Wife is sending me on a rekky to WA this month instructed to get 1 A JOB 2 SORT OUT SCHOOL 3 ATTEND HOUSE OPEN DAYS 4 DRIVE AROUND EVERY SUBURB AND PHOTOGRAGH HOUSES 5 GET AS MUCH REALESTATE LITERATURE AS POSSIBLE 6 DO NOT ENJOY YOURSELF Only joking but keen to meet IN ANY BAR any resident mechanics to talk spanners or availiable for interviews. (email megmor@hotmail.co.uk) thanks ian and paula.

  7. Hi Folks We are just making initial enquiries at the moment with agents and were about to arrange for a skill assessment for Andy, when I looked into the new pathway D requirements and now I think we need some advice. Andy is a Motor Mechanic of 9 years working experience, he initially did a city and guilds level 1 in motor vechicle repair and servicing then got a job at a nissan dealership and only attended nissan specialised courses, then joined a Toyota Dealership and continued with any courses they presented. however as none of these are formal qualifications we are rather concerned we will just be wasting our money going ahead with an assessment. Initially we thought his work experience would get us through, but with these new rules we are far from confident. Would his only option now be to totally retrain to an NVQ 2/3?? thanks in advance Sara and Andy
  8. I've just been on the Vetassess website and the deadline for payment for the motor mechanic practicals in October has changed from the 8th September to 15th September which is great news for people like me who has only just sent of their paper assessment today. Who knows my hubby might still get in on time. I'm :notworthy: hoping we dont have to wait til January.

  10. Hi.I have been looking at this great forum for a few months and it has been a great source of information but now I am ready to apply for my visa I would appriciate some direction. I have been speaking to a few agents about which visa would suit us as a family.I am a car mechanic by trade but have moved up the management ladder to a dealer principal position of a main dealership.I have not had hands on with the tools for some years so the thought of a practical assessment is daunting.Has any body out there done the vetassess skill test yet and what was involved.I am prepared to brush up on my skills but I can not return to the shop floor which has been suggested by the agents. Any info would be appriciated. My wifes sister lives in Queensland and we visited in April for a month and loved the place and the people and we cant wait to return for good!!!!!

Many thanks, all words of wisdom greatfully received. Andy. :elvis:
  20. Does anyone know someone in Oz who is a Refrigeration and Air Con mechanic? We're having no luck through the normal sites (Seek etc) finding out how much they get paid. We don't need a precise figure (and I'm aware that wages will be different between states) but an idea of whether it may be $40 ph or $20 ph will let me know whether we can have a nice relaxing life or whether I need to keep Dan working overtime till he drops. It wont affect whether we go to Oz but it may affect the level of life insurance required :cute: Ta guys

  22. Hi all, I am about to start compiling information for my TRA submission. I am an Aircraft Technician in the British armed forces and I am a little unsure as to the extent of the evidence that I need to provide in order to get the TRA approved first time. Do I need to go back 20 years or just give evidence of the last few years work? Have any PIO members encountered similar dilemmas or perhaps been unsuccessful with the TRA due to providing insufficient evidence? All feedback gratefully received. Many thanks, Paul
  23. Hello I am HR Manager for an aussie wide car hire company, they sponsored me back in 2004 but I am married to an aussie now. Thought I would put a post on as I deal with mainly HR things now and always on the look out for new staff in all sorts of jobs around the place for both NZ and Aus. Currently we are looking for a Mechanic in Perth and one in Melbourne. So if anyone out there is a qualified mechanic and is looking for work in one of these two cities then let me know. Regards Gem
