  1. Husband dropped the bombshell a couple of weeks ago, shall spare you the details, but I am almost certain that a divorce is approaching. I am on a spouse 457 visa, we have just been approved to have a sponsored residency application submitted through my husbands relocation services people at work. Hopefully this will go through quickly, we have a son (4). My head is all over the place, but my thinking is not to rush back to the UK, but to try and manage living here and having some normality for my son. I went to see a lawyer last week that told me Aus divorce rules apply, even though we are on a visa. Another friend said this was rubbish, as we were married in the UK then UK rules apply. We have bought a house in Melbourne, been here 18 months. Anyone got any views/knowledge/experience in this area? Divorce stuff and also will separating jeopardise the visa? What a mess, thanks!
  2. hello everyone weve lost our marriage certificate we got married 11yrs ago in dominican republic tried to locate it through travel agents, embassy here and in dominican. we are struggling might sound like a stupid question but do we have to provide the certificate when we apply for the visa its the only thing stopping us applying now. any info would be helpful many thanks nigel and lisa evans
  3. Hi All I have been granted my prospective marriage visa but having a medical problem at the moment that I did not have when the visa was granted, my problem is that I may need to have some blood tests and xray when I arrive in Oz but obviously I wont be covered by medicare until I get married and apply for my Spouse Visa, I also gather that I will not be covered by travel insurance as I wont be classed as a visitor to Oz, I also understand that if I take out private health insurance there is a waiting period... Im just wondering if anyone else has needed medical treatment when arriving in Oz on their temporary fiance visa and if there is any way to cover myself for these expenses?Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Steve

    Prospective Marriage Visa

Hello ,I have applying for prospective marriage (fiance)visa to Australia in 26.06.2008.I was at interview in 10.07.2008, at medical examination in 07.08.2008.How long still take ???? many thanks:embarrassed:
  5. After waiting for ages for my medical to come back and be sent off which it was last week I haven't heard anything at all from the embassey, and as that was the last thing they needed I am really concerned. Can someone please stop this paranoia and tell me that this is a normal waiting period, as I have seen people apply and get an answer all in one week and my application seems to be dragging on far too much.
  6. Hi I am currently in the uk, have been back from Oz since january at the end of my 6 month tourist visa. I have left my fiancee and her 2 young children there and am struggling at the minute missing them. We are about 6 to 8 weeks away from being in a position to submit our prospective marriage visa to australia house in London. During a couple of my OH's many phonecalls with DIAC in Oz they advised her that i could come back on an ETA for 3 months, get married and apply straight away for the spouse visa on shore. I would then be granted a bridging visa while the decision would be made. The obvious drawback is that whilst the decision would be made i could not work, and of course the spouse visa application could be refused. I am really torn at the minute, missing them so much and in the back of my mind worrying myself crazy that if the PMV application is refused I might never see them again. So i am seriously considering applying for the ETA and heading home to my family before the end of September 2008. Whilst i'm not asking anyone what i should do, i would appreciate other peoples input.
  7. Ok, does anyone know who actually comes under the 'related by marriage' definition? Everything I read indicates it's basically my husband's parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles. But what about my sister-in-law's husband (no, not my brother but my husband's, sister's husband) - would he be related to me by marriage or only to my husband? I figure that the definition has to stop somewhere otherwise most people in the country would be considered related to each other! I need someone to sign my ACRO form urgently, but my GP is away for a couple of weeks and we've availed ourselves of our dentist's kindness too many times lately. Unfortunately, neither of us have known anyone for the required 2 years who fits into one of the categories, but my sister-in-law's hubby is a dentist and would be able to do this on Sunday for us. Thank you in advance for your help K http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/apply-countersign.asp

    Prospective Marriage Visa

Hi to all, I'm Burmese, my fiancee is Oz.Prospective Marriage Visa apply on 27 June 2008 and I have interview on 10 July 2008. After interview my officer said, in 3 week time we will call u and health check. *My question is ,that mean good or bad. I'm worry!! :embarrassed:
  9. Hi guys, I had my prospective marriage visa granted a couple of weeks ago (it only took 4 days for those who are going down this route – with meds and police check front loaded) and I have a few questions about the next stage i.e the spouse visa, applying onshore in Melbourne. - My meds and police check will still be valid when I apply for spouse so will I need to do these gain? If not, how can I send the original police certificate if it has already been sent to Australia House in the UK and simlarily my meds?! - Although I will only have been in Oz for 5 months when I apply will I need an Oz police check? - When I apply for the spouse visa my surname will have changed so will be different to that on my passport which has my visa in now. Should I apply for a new passport first or can I apply with my old passport and then have the visa label transferred at a later date?! There doesn’t seem to be much info on going from prospective marriage to spouse!! Thanks Nina xx

    marriage certificate

Hey everyone, My partner was previously married and we have his divorce cert but not his marriage cert. In the application for the prospective marriage visa it asks for both these docs to be provided. As he was married in Austria we are finding it really hard to get a cert copy from there. I’m just panicked that this could slow down the visa process. I called AHC and asked if the marriage cert was needed and they wouldn’t give a yes or no, just to send app without it and if they needed it they would let me know, seems a bit bizarre to me lol!! As we have the divorce cert it shows he was married in the first place anyhow…. Any help appreciated! Thanks Nina
  11. Hi Everyone! I'm new to this site and am applying for the prospective marriage visa. I think I have everything organised, have had the medical/police check/obtained stat decs/letter from the celebrant etc. My only question is regarding the financial stability of my partner. He is an Oz citizen but has been living over here for 14 years. We plan to stay with his family when we go but how can we prove he can financially support me if he doesn’t have job over there yet? He has a decent paid job here and we have his payslips to prove this. I think we will have about £5000 to take with us, I hope that is enough! Also is debt in this country i.e credit cards/loans looked into when we apply? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Nina

    marriage & visas

HI Just wondering: my fiancee and I are are going to migrate to Oz with our 2 daughters, but we are not married...does anyone know whether we lose points for not being married? Im a teacher & he's a sparky but we're going on my job: if i sit a test we should scrape the points, but do we lose any for just being engaged? Any help is greatly appreciated! Judith & Joe:wacko:
  14. Hi, OH and I are getting all the documents ready for when we send off our application for a subclass 175 visa. We have been married for 4 years. Is a certified marriage certificate enough?? As on the IMMI website it talks about (quote): In all instances, you must include evidence that your relationship is genuine and continuing and you have a commitment to a shared life together Do we need to write a statement too? Cheers! Diane & Steve x

    Marriage after application.

My son and his fiancee have applied for 136 MODL visa. We have had the money taken recently, so they are in the system at last. They have now decided to get married before they go. They are looking at April 2008 and hopefully starting their new life in Oz soon after, visa permitting. Has anyone been in the same position? We were wondering about changing Stacies passport, joint accounts etc. Would it be better going in on her maiden name (as I'm guessing the visas will be in that) and changing her passport via the British Embassy once they are there? Will there be a problem opening joint bank accounts there if they have been in single names over here? Or would it just be easier delaying going in order to get everything sorted out here? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Gill. (Matt's mum).

  19. Hi, been browsing the forum for a couple of weeks now, however this is my first posts. My Austrlain finance and I (british citizen) are applying for a prospective marriage visa (getting married on March 28th 2008) and I've got a couple of queries. 1. With regards to the question on from 47SP about the value of money and goods you will be taking to Australia, is there a limit or an amount that is preferable. I have money I was planning on leaving in a uk account, however if it will help my application then I can take transfer it to my Australian account. 2. It says to include a copy of my birth certificate with both my parents names on it. However, I only have my original birth certificate which doesn't state my parents names on it. Will this cause a problem? 3. My finance is an Australian citizen by birth, however her birth certificate is currently at the british embassey in Canberra as she is applying for a british passport (british parents). Will a copy of her passport be accetable as proof that she is an Austrlian citizen? Thanks in advance Mark.

    Passport Change Due to Marriage

Hi My fiance, Alison and I have been living in Brisbane for the last 7 months, and we are currently here on my 457 working visa. We are returning to England in October this year to get married. Does anyone know what the procedure is for getting Alison's passport changed to her married name. We can't make the change whilst in the UK, so have to do it back here. Thanks Mark
  21. I hadn't thought before about doing this because it sounds so bizarre, but is there a single man out there who's perhaps thinking about migrating and would be prepared to get married? There are issues - this sort of thing, while not illegal, is a method of entry that Australia does lookout for, and rightly so. However (deep breath) it seems like my only chance - I'm a couple of years too old. And quite frankly I know the country well and would be able to fit in and make a useful contribution, it's just that the migration rules are based on statistics, which apparently say that over 45's have difficulty. For reasons of formal compatibility, I'd be looking for somebody in his forties with a tertiary education and preferably a profession. Actually, the more I think about the implications the more problems I see. But I'm serious, not unhinged, despite the subject-matter, and I have to ask. Anyone interested in this?
  22. Hi, I'm looking for some info on the 2nd stage of the pros marriage visa. We get married in April and will apply then, but we are just trying to get things organised. Do I need to have another medical (I had one in the UK for the first stage in March?)? And how do I go about getting a uk police check? Any help - greatly appriciated. Thanks, Jenn
  23. Hi, I have today after a few months of compiling stuff sent off my application for a prospective marriage visa, I am a little confused however about the medical and police check side of things as I have mainly used the Australian immigration website and little was monetioned of these, however on the London australian embassy website it places much more emphasis on the need for these. Could someone please clarify exactly what I need.
