  1. Hi, We are looking to start the emigration process, and I was wondering if there is much food manufacturing in and around Melbourne, Victoria - or should we be looking in another state? Anyone out there have any advice? I have experience in Dairy, Meat and Cereal manufacturing industries, and I'm just coming to the end of an MBA, which should broaden the opportunities when we get out there. Thanks, Allan & Lisa.
  2. My other half is a sales and marketing manager and has 4 years managerial experience of teams within a call centre environment including operations management and new business implementation. I have just qualified as a project manager, I did an AQF course online and now being told I need to get 12 months experience even though been doing project role for few years now. He wants to apply as an office manager but has no formal qualifications but this is not a requirement on the IMMI website if you have relevant experience. Have a few questions: Is his experience relevant? How would he get recognised prior learning? Will my sister be able to sponsor him as we want to go on a 475 visa and she is willing to sponsor us. Any help appreciated

    Business Development Manager

Congrtats to all that are on their way! My OH is a Business Development Manager (he was 40 last week) for a leading freight forwarding company specialising in road freight and we have just found out from Go Matilda that to get a permanent visa in Aus he needs a Batchelors Degree. He is only 1 step under the Director now and hasn't got a Degree, he has been asking around and nobody in his line of work that we know has one. He has worked his way up the ladder from a 16 year on work experience by swapping companies etc but always staying in the same trade. The only way is a sponsorship it seems, though he works for a multi million pound company they don't have offices in Aus, so we are finding it tricky. Experience and a proven track record doesn't seem to count for much. He is quite happy in his job but has been thinking of moving to TNT who has offices in Aus or similar but is reluctant because if he can't get a transfer and he is not happy, it will all be for nothing, so obviously we are reluctant. We are thinking of attending the Leeds Expo to see if this is any good, but quite honestly at this moment we feel a country that is supposidly desperate for honest good skilled workers they are making it very difficult. Any ideas out there?? Any Business Devopment Managers with similar experiences or got round it some how? Feeling a bit like the dream is over right now and we haven't got of the first rung yet! Milly mayhem

    Engineer or Manager???

Hey all, This is my first post but so far have found all your messages very helpful. I am looking at moving to Brisbane next year and am only just starting out with the TRA process, however, I have hit a bit of a dilemma. I am a qualified Civil Engineer but since graduating in 2005, I have been working as a site engineer or project manager. If I apply as an Engineer, it is worth 60points but I do not think I have sufficient experience but if I apply as a Construction Manager, I only get 50points. Does anybody know if project management would be considered as relevant work experience for a Civil Engineer? I just don't want to fall at the first hurdle. Thanks Sue x
  15. Dear All, I am an Ex IT Recruitment Consultant and Sales Manager/Business Development Manager in the UK and wondered if anyone in Melbourne would be interested in sponsoring me? Please, Please, Please anyone who can help, my hubby and I just want to be in Melbourne ASAP. Thanks Sarah
  16. I'm a radio sales manager working for GCAP media in the UK and want to contact the larger radio groups in Australia to explore the possibility of working there. Please can you let me know about any forums / sites you know of for people who work in radio both in broadcast and commercial. Many Thanks Dan.
  17. Hi My husband and I are looking to move to Austrailia ASAP we are currently waiting on the results from my husbands Skills Assesment which appear to have been lost in the Post!! We did not chase it up until now as there is an email to us saying if we contact them then it will only delay our progress so we have hung on and on and on and on and finally contacted them and they sent them apparently over a month ago, however still have not given us our results so the dreaded wait continues. Due to this we are considering it may be much quicker to find somebody to sponsor my husband so if anybody knows of any IT jobs going that offer sponsorship in Melbourne then It would be a great help to us, he has worked as an IT manager and Project manager for approx 10 years, Lans/Wans/Firewalls/MS Exchange/Active Directories and lead teams of IT analysts as a Project Manager implementing new Sage Systems/New telecoms systems/Planning offices for IT Cables and Servers and is very technically Skilled. If you have anything or hear of anybody who would sponser for either a Permenant role or a Contract, I beleive you can get a 4 year working Business contract visa. Your help and knowledge would be great, Also if you are an IT Analyst or Like Mountain Biking and are in your Late 20's onwards and looking to move to Melbourne, Victoria we would like to hear from you as we will need some extra friends LOL! Best Regards:arghh:
  18. Basically thats what I am trained in and I will be looking for a position like this when we get over next March/April. I do have an option to come over early if sponsorship is available and I expect my skilled visa to be ready in the new year. My family and I are looking to relocate to SE Brisbane so anything upto an hour commuting is good. If you could keep your ears and eyes open if you are already over in Oz it would be great. I have registered with a couple of Agencies and I have around 7 months to go so lets see what happens. Be Lucky Tricky & Family

  20. Hi, We are moving to Melbourne in March 2008 with a full 136 residential visa and are trying to do our homework with regards to both our job opportunities. My husband is a Health & Safety Inspector which involves carrying out statutory safety inspections (in the UK) on all types of passenger lifts (elevators in oz), cranes, lifting and handling plant and machinery in all types of working environments, risk assessments and accident investigations in this field. On the other hand as for me, I will be looking in the Human Resources field, I am currently a Senior HR Manager working for a large American owned company. Hopefully there will be suitable jobs for the both of us...... so we are keeping our fingers crossed at the moment!! If there is anyone out there who knows of any good agencies in Melbourne that you could recommend, or any contacts we would be very grateful. We are really looking forward to the new challenges ahead of us and our new life in the warmer climate - we have sold our house now - so no looking back for us!! Roll on March 2008!

  22. My husband (Adey) has applied for a 457 as he is being sponsored by a local Civil Engineering company in Bunbury. However, I would also like to work and can work as I'm on his visa in the local area but not sure if I can apply for jobs whist still in the UK. Would it be best to apply for temporary work via agencies before we leave the UK or wait until we get to Bunbury? I am a Senior Administrator with a local Brewery (the biggest in South Wales) with a previous history of Office Management and HR - any ideas for the role for me in Oz? Sarah:chatterbox:
  23. I'm looking for some assistance, I'm a Security/Training Manager for a large FM company in the UK, working on a large Corporate Contract. I would like to move with my family to Australia, Melbourne being our first choice. Could anyone advise me on positions of Security Manager in Australian businesses? Or point me in the right direction of large corporate businesses? My partner is also a qualified Hairdresser/Beauty Therapist and is a college tutor for Hairdressing, so we are looking at her skill also. Can anyone forward some advice? Many thanks Rick

    Project Manager

Hi to all, First post (of many more to come i am sure). We are at the very early stages of looking into a permanent move down under so for the next couple of months I will be doing some research. First question regards my career. I'm currently a Project Manager for a civil engineering firm and have been for the last 3nr years. All my experience is in the water industry and specifically the dirty water side of things i.e. refurb of existing sewers, construction of new sewers, tunnelling, WwTW's etc. Are there plenty of jobs around that fit this description? Specifically in either Brisbane, Perth or Sydney. What is the average annual wage? I currently get a company car supplied, is this arrangement similar in Australia? Anyone know of any company's i can make contact with that do this type of work? We are currently a couple of years away from a move (when our eldest daughter finishes her exams), but I like to do as much research as i can up front. Many thanks in advance. Regards Scott
