I have 5 years experience as a pressure control engineer with a gas network company ( 4years of that advanced apprenticeship). does anyone have any useful information on gas maintenance companys or where to even start ! my job is basically regulator maintenance/mechanical fitter/pressure control.. which probably comes under a different title in australia which is throwing me off. any help at all would be much appreciated. thanks !
  5. Hi everybody! I got my 175 visa last month and now trying to decide where to land in Australia. It seems that it's going to be quite difficult to find an aircraft maintenance or avionics job in the Oz, so I'd like to increae my chances by going to the right state. I know that Victoria sponsors AMEs, but a Quantas Heavy Maintenance Base in Melbourne was shut down a while ago and so there still might be many unemployed AMEs looking for a job in VIC. Looking at seek.com.au it seems that there are positions in QLD, so maybe it's better to go to Brisbane? I'm really confused. Can anyone help me with a useful piece of advice? Thank you so much! If someone has contacts in any Australian airline or MRO or is an aviation employer themselves, I'd be more than happy to send you my CV, a cover letter, AML, qualifications and any other documents you may require. I'm a Licensed AME (Avionics - B2) here in Russia, but I'm undoubtedly ready to start it all over again and work as a ground handling mechanic or a baggage handler. I will then certainly try to convert my license to CASA B2 as I'm eligible for CTC assessment. I'm just limited in money, so I can't be looking for a suitable job for a long time. Any help is deeply appreciated. Thank you very much.

  7. Ive scanned the SOL ive checked the forums but im still none the wiser... I work in a grade one listed building in London doing what they call Fabric maintenance. My job includes pretty much all types of building works, facillitys, install, carpentry, plumbing, lock picking!, etc etc... I am c&g quallified plumb & chippy, but as my job title is neither in particular does that mean im off the list or what? I dont really want to go back to site work just to make my job title suit, I would be willing to do site work when I get to Oz tho. Any ideas?
  8. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone could possibly help. I have the 175 visa, and we are looking to come over to Aus within the next couple of months. The only problem is that due to having a 5 year old and 9 month old baby, I need to get work pretty sharp, with as minimal moving around as poss. We are looking at either Perth, Brisbane or NSW, or possibly Melbourne but can't really determine where has the most work. I've looked at seek etc, but would appreciate it if anyone could give me a heads up, or perhaps the names of agencies who handle contract work. I've worked both civillian and miltary aircraft, mainly structures. Many thanks, Chris:biggrin:
  9. Hello all Still plodding through the Visa process (state sponsorship) and we have got to the point where we must decide on which state would offer us the best opportunities, preferably South. I'm an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical) (unlicenced) and we have looked at each states SOL. WA: is out of the question at the moment as we are not on their SOL. SA: I'm on their list but there are some conditions to be met, I read this to be that you must gain work experience in this state, can anyone clarify this? Victoria: I'm on their list with no conditions so this may be a possibility. NSW: This state is broken down into four areas and the SOL for each does not include any Aircraft trades. I get the impression that there is not a great requirement for aircraft engineers on a state sponsorship visa and yet this occupation is on the skills shortage list for Australia. I would be grateful if anyone could confirm my findings or offer some advice. Thank you all Ian and Debbie

    Wild weather and basic maintenance

This one mostly goes out to those of us living in NSW who may have noticed that there's a bit of a damp breeze around at the moment! I've just spent the past three days / nights out and about with the SES tarping roofs and making good other storm damage and will probably be out again tonight as well. Many of the Requets For Assistance came from householders coming home from work to find water pouring through ceilings and down walls. Most of these were from genuine storm damage with tiles lifting etc but unfortunately a lot of others could have easily been prevented by keeping gutters clear! We're having the heaviest rain for 60 years so if your gutters aren't working at pretty near to 100% efficiency, they're just not going to be able to handle the amount of water being thrown at them. The wild weather is likley to continue for the next couple of days so please don't start clambering around up ladders just yet - but once things have calmed down, try to get all the leaves and other crap cleared away (or pay someone to do it for you) in readiness for the next bout of storms and heavy rain. It could save you big bucks!

    Child maintenance help

I will be leaving two children in the uk 12 and 14 years old as they will be staying with their mother, we have been divorced for over 7 years. i have spoken with the UK CSA about continuing to pay them the maintenance from OZ but they have advised me that as i am not going to be working for a company with any links to the uk the arrangement with them will cease. How does the Australian CSA work - does anyone have any experience of paying money back to the UK or is it best to try to arrange this direct with the other parent even though i may not get any joy from her. Advice and help appreciated.
  16. I am looking to emigrate to Australia with my wife and 3 young children. I am looking for employment within Signal Maintenance / New works testing. I have 10 years experience and currently working as a new works signaling tester on various projects in the UK. I currently hold an IRSE licence in Maintenance testing / verification testing, I also have many technical and safety courses in Signalling, including signal works testing modules 3BL / 4. I have a HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. If anybody has any information or jobs in this area I would be most grateful to hear from you. Benn.
  17. Hello all, After a lot of dithering as to whether to or not, thought it might be useful to start this thread for all those Aircraft Engineers out there who are intending / or have already started / passed their TRA assessment via Victoria University. Our story: OH is avionics with 25 yrs military experience and we're all set to start our skills assessment, but we have been advised that we may be wasting our money as he doesn't hold civilian licenses or an 'official' log book. He's completed the initial online Tradeset assessment with no problems, so as an initial guideline we think this is a positive indication. We personally, and no doubt all others in the same situation, would be really grateful to hear of how your application is going, timelines whether you have civilian licenses or not, log books etc. Any advice you can give really. I do know that clarification on this issue has been been requested by at least one migration agent ( to both Vic Uni and TRA) but as yet a definitative reply hasn't been given from either to say if they are a pre-requisite or not...very frustrating! Our understanding is that under the previous guidelines, before the assessment switched to Vic Uni, that you didn't have to have civilian licenses and that providing a very in depth breakdown of jobs, experience, tools used etc. (all signed off) was sufficient. Is anyone out there in a similar situation or had their assessment application acknowledged /approved without licenses? Thanks, E&A
  18. Immediate start - Work within a great team and even better working environment. SEEK - Air Conditioning Technician - WA CBD Job in Perth
  19. To try and convince my OH about Australia I was hoping to find out about work opportunities there. His title at work is a Mechanical Maintenance Craftsman which basically means that he repairs robots or press's in the motor manufacturing industry, but I think this skill would apply to most manufacturers. Unfortunately I don't know what this would be classed under on the skills list. I would also like advise on where to look for such vacancies & to find what the salary would be. Any help would be appreciated!
  20. Hello everyone - still quite new to this forum. My family and I are looking at moving to Melbourne in August this year and wondered if anyone had any contacts in the airports. I am an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Avionics) with over 20 years of experience with the RAF. Can't wait to move to OZ, we are coming across in March to have a good look around to try and get our bearings before the final move in August. Regards, Pete
  21. i need advice my husband is an electrical maintence engineer and we on 176 visa to vic, i am an accounting technician, we both have no jobs we are from UK ,we are going to melbourne end of february 2011 and have 4 kids do you think we should leave the kids here and try to find job first because we can leave them with our brother and wife for a few weeks and get them when one of us got a job, or we can risk and go together with the kids the other thing is the money that we have i feel that is not enough if we dont have jobs, please advice
  22. Hi I'm trying to find out if any Surveyors have managed to get a Visa and which one you went with and where your heading !? Tim
  23. Hi all, Before you read this i would ask you not to make the typical judgements that i have seen on other forums before that all men who pay child maintenance but arnt happy about it are b***tards. im going to keep details of myself to a minimum so i can remain as anonymous as possible and thanks in advance for any advice. I am planning to move to Australia in the near future to begin a new life there and i cant wait!! the only thing which i have a big question mark about and i've found it difficult to find information about is maintenance payments and where i legally stand. to cut a long story short, my ex used getting pregnant as a way for me not to dump her after the "suicide attempts" stopped working. since then the child is used as bribery tool. after many "discussions" she decided to keep it fully knowing i didnt want anything to do with her or the child, she though that the decision was entirely her choice and up untill i told her even afterwards i wanted her out of my life she was booked into get an abortion...i am having to pay maintenance now because the CSA dont care what the circumstances are surrounding how the child came to be, i know it takes 2 to make it happen but it should also take 2 to make an adult decision weather it is right to bring a child into the world and in my opinion, she knew what the implications were before she decided to keep it and she knew she would be doing it as a single mum (this is the point i ask not to make a judgement, if it was a loving relationship i wouldnt have walked away...it has turned out i have been granted a restraining order to stop her contacting me so thats the extent of the problems i have had). Anyway, the English system is that i have to pay which i have been doing. what i want to know is what happens when i move to Aus? i've read mixed things where the UK CSA have no jurisdiction but others who say she can still get money out of me? Sorry for rambling on but any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.
  24. Hi, I am new to this site and thinking of emigrating to Australia, most probably Perth, and am looking from some help and information please. I am currently an Electrical Maintenance Engineer/Technician (sometimes referred to as an Industrial Electrician) in a factory that produces wood based panel products (MDF and Chipboard, laminate flooring, kitchen worktops etc.). I have experience with fault finding and using PLC's (Siemens S5 and S7). Also the usual stuff, AC and DC motors/drives, invertors, sensors and switches, relays and contactors, panel building and none industrial such as lighting and power circuits. I have also got experience with Instrumentation & Control, i.e. Flow meters, Level transmitters, Valve controllers, 4...20mA signals etc. My qualifications are as follows; NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations (Including Hand/bench fitting, Wiring and Testing Electrical circuits, Electronics, Electrical Plant), NVQ Level 3 Electrical Maintenance, ONC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Could anyone please tell me if these qualifications are suitable for use in WA and what I would have to do to emigrate, in terms of exams etc... Many Thanks, Elliott
