    Stamp Duty On Land

Hi Peeps After much research we were originally told we would have to pay full stamp duty on land but as we only owned our house and not the land back in the u.k we have had a big reduction in cost half of the original costing which is a big help, you need all your pennies if having your own house built we are in QLD so dont know if its different in other regions. 5. Hi............ Dont know if any one can help............. We are half way through this long & painful but very worth while process, and we stated on the application form we wanted to settle in Melboure (still do!) But as a big treat for us all, we were thinking about landing in Gold Coast first , to visit all the attractions, Sea Life, Warner world and Wet n Wild etc. etc., before we have to get serious and look for property, schools & jobs etc. Can you do this, or do you have to land where you stated on visa application......??????? Thanks for any advice/clarification..........
  6. Hello, I'm moving to Perth with my family in November (visa willing) and having seen the rising house prices wondered if you can get a mortgage on a land purchase. I will have a small amount for a deposite ($50000 approx). Thanks Alan
  7. Hi, is anyone or has anyone gone down this route of buying land and having a house built? Any pitfalls? A friend of mine is buying land in QLD and picking a house from a catalogue (don't think it was Argos). He reckons its alot cheaper. 3 acre plot and massive house all for about $250k, he is capable of building it himself tho. Do you have to pay Conveyance Stamp Duty on the house you have built? (particulary in SA) What about these new developments where the area is still a building site, anyone had one of them? Any pitfalls? Cheers, Neil

    where to land???

my wife and i have just been told to go for our medicals. great news!. but on our application,(independent skilled 136), we said that we would want to settle in wa, we have since changed our minds and would like to live in nsw. i have family on both sides of the country so we would still make our initial landing in perth, stay a month and have a good scout round, but ultimately we are going to nsw. should we inform the immigration people?, or once you land you can live where you like?? thanks for any info. john d.
  10. is there a lot of problems and buearocracy involved in buying land and building your own place also i know this sounds lazy but if you go on a skills visa are you expected to work full time for the first number of years or so and show how much youve earned ie reach a target. only i will still be recieving dividends from the uk average wage a year so i would like to enjoy life, maybe play golf, ive never done that
  11. Hi, not quite sure where to start, so thought well some one on this fantastic site which has answered my many questions my be able to point me in the right direction. Back to the query eh, we are going to be moving to Melbourne just after exmas . My partners mum, Jean, who totally supports us in our decision is currently dependant on a dialysis machine  , she does not have the use of her kidneys . Has anyone ever heard of a way that if a Brit travels to Auz on a visitors visa that they would be able to have their dialysis done locally??? which they could pay for? just looking at possible options which may be available.
