    moving to sydney in july

hi , we are moving to sydney in july we have a little girl who is 4. and we are looking at living in the north of sydney, we are just waiting for our visa's. i am soo confused about the schooling system, what age do they start in oz? i have only visited sydney many many years ago so i have no clue where is nice to look for somewhere to live, we are thinking around baulkham hills, is that a nice family area we will be staying in furnished apartment for a month while we get ourself settled. if anyone has any advice what so ever about where they like i would so appreciate it. i'm already stressing about where we live as we are bringing our dog charlie with us, and i keep seeing how difficult it is to find somewhere. thanks everyone

    July Points System – Caution

There have been many recent posts in regards to the new points system which will be implemented from the 1st of July. I advise caution in this regard, as there is still much we do not know for certain, as much of the relevant Regulations and none of the Policy has yet been released. So far only some of the Regulations are available, such as the regulation which deals with the points allocation (Schedule 6C). This is problematic as the relevant Ministerial Instruments and Policy have not been released. As one example, the definition of Superior English in the Schedule defers to another Regulation, which Defers to a Ministerial Instrument, which has not yet been released. As such it is yet to be defined. My point is to proceed with caution and not make any irreversible decisions until the full ambit of the new system is know.
  4. Hello, Is anyone aware of the new processing priorities after 1 July? We had an invite to the state expo in Bristol on Saturday and would have liked to have asked the DIAC representative, but after reading the posts about the one in Birmingham I have decided not to go due to travelling and new baby etc decided it wasnt worth it. Apologies if someone has already asked the above question! Thanks
  5. I am a secondary teacher hoping to get a perminent visa to oz. i have all my certificates ready to process through the aitsl. will i even need this in the new points system? there is not list of needed occupations, is that true? it is just in case i want to teach over in oz? also does it matter if i apply for skills assessment now or after the 1st july? its cheaper but i dont want it to lessen my chances. thanks
  6. Hello! My husband has applied to an ACT state sponsored visa and the application was received on the 23rd of may 2011. Does it sound impossible that it will be accepted before the 1st of July deadline? If it isn't done by then, what happens to the application? Also, do you think we should get our medicals done now or wait and see? We are off to France for the summer so i am not sure we can get it done there and approved by the australians authorities... so maybe best to do it now but i don't want to risk paying for the medicals if the visa application gets refused... Catch 22! Many thanks, Sophie and Dominic
  7. Hi It has been mentioned in a couple of places but not everyone may be checking those threads so I thought I would open a separate thread. Here is the link to the the latest release of details about the points test - came out yesterday I think The pass mark for points is still 65 http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/points-test.pdf

  10. Hi Would anyone out there be able to help me. I applied for a 175 visa in April 2010 and at the time my occupation was on the Schedule 1 list. I called immigration twice in April and they confirmed I was in Priority 3. When I still had not been allocated a case officer I called again this week and was told I am now in priority 4 as they are retropectively applying Schedule 3, which my application is not on, to everyone who applied prior to its introduction in July 2010. The immigration website says clearly in several places that Schedule 1 is the list that applies to my application, but the agents have been instructed not to process it. So people who applied after me are getting priority. I am in Oz on a working holiday visa but my time is up with my employer at the end of this month. They want to keep me on but are not in a position to sponsor me. Does anyone know what has happened to applicants who applied under schedule 1 prior to July 2010, and can anyone give me some advice? Thanks Louise

  13. Heh Guys, I'm organising a Christmas in July event on the 22nd July at the Amberlee Reception in Cranbourne - All proceeds to Cystic Fibrosis. Thought it would be nice to get some x-pats along as Christmas just isn't the same here when its hot and sunny. So if you want to come along and enjoy a night of dancing to Millenium Band and feasting on a gourmet buffet, perhaps winning some awsum raffle prizes then please check out the events calender for my contact details. Tickets $65. Hope to see some of you there - can organise an X-pat table or a few so we can all meet and greet and make some new friends. xx:cute:

    Accommodation July Melbourne

Just a long shot but I thought I would just put it out there that we will be looking for a 1 bed flat or something self contained and smallish in Melbourne from August just in case anyone knows of something. It is just the two of us (no kids or pets, non-smokers) and we would probably be looking to start off in the East side of Melbourne within 20-40 minutes commuter distance of the CBD. It is most likely we will get work in the CBD or at one of the Universities. We have accommodation with friends for the first week or so when we arrive at the end of July - but don't want to outstay our welcome. We are a bit worried about getting tied into a 6 month+ lease as we won't have jobs when we first arrive and so are not too sure where we will need to live. My main worry is that we sign a lease and then find jobs a long way away - we are applying for jobs in Geelong and Melbourne and I was even interviewed for a position in Healseville a few months ago. We were hoping it might be possible to get somewhere a little more flexible on releasing us from a lease if needs be - yet not in the expensive short term accommodation prices? I am wondering whether trying to get something privately via gumtree might be a better option than the rental agencies to avoid the 6 month lease problem? Thanks Vicky
  17. Today has been the day from hell. We got a successful result from the TRA but not for what we applied for, even after getting the AQF III, so our plans for SS have disappeared as there is nowhere we can go now. We used an agent for the TRA and they are now looking into it all to see whether we can appeal as he says they've either changed the rules and not told anyone or an assessor has assessed it wrong  so we are waiting to hear back from them but even if we appeal though and are successful how long will that take? We were hoping to get our WA SS in asap so we could apply before July as with the proposed changes we will not have enough points so looks like we are now well and truly scuppered unless by some miracle the changes don't happen. Anyway, if they're going to happen does anyone know when we will know exactly what they will be? I keep reading that they are only proposed somewhere and there is no legislation for the yet. Will it be before the 1st July or are they likely to just confirm it all on the day?
  18. I'm 16 this October and I've lived in Australia (Far North Queensland) since I was 12, and I've never really been happy here. So, my Mom agreed to let me go back to England and live with family. I need help about school. I've finished Year 10 and would have done one semester of Year 11 by the 6th of July (my leaving date), but I don't have any GCSE qualifications. I know I'll be starting school in September, and I'll be in Year 11 back in England, but some of my friends who are in England now say they have already done some GCSE? I'm really confused? Can I do my GCSE in Year 11, or will I have to do a course outside of school? Thanks!

    Security Checks after July '11

According to a news article I subscribed, there are changes to the way security checks will be conducted by ASIO. My guess is that instead of automatically sending everyone from Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh and few others for these checks, they will handpick the unlucky ones for checks. However does it mean that security checks will be quicker for those whose applications have already been sent for these checks after this new system for ASIO kicks in? Hope any agents can shed some light on this. 20. Hello, my name's Elise and I'm 15 (16 in July) and I'm moving to Brisbane this July! We'll be living in Kenmore for the first month, so I was just wondering if there was anyone living around that area who I could talk to as it would be nice to know someone out there when I move! Also I might be going to Kenmore State High school so it would be good to get to know someone who goes there and what people think of it?? Thanks! Elise :cute: xx

Passport due in expiry in July

More questions. Both myself and OH and passports are due to expiry in July. Do you think we should renew now before we actually apply for 176 SS or submit the ones we have now for our SS and then for 176. does it make much of a difference?
  22. DIAC is introducing this model from July 2012. The Model is proposed to commence on 1 July 2012. As of this date, new applicants for independent, family or state/territory sponsored migration would need to submit an EOI and be issued with an invitation before lodging a visa application, unless eligible for transitional arrangements. The first round of invitations is expected to occur in January 2013. Transitional arrangements currently apply to certain people who, on 8 February 2010, held or had applied for a Skilled – Graduate (subclass 485) visa. This group is able to apply for a permanent skilled visa under the previous system, until the end of 2012. There are no additional transitional arrangements in relation to the Model. More info on: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/skilled-migrant-selection-model.htm FAQs: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/model-faq.pdf
  23. Hi I just read several thread and now Im thking what could possible happen in July?? DIAC announced new policies for 2012-2013 and based on the content in the new announcement I dont think they are completely ready for 2011-2012 with the new point system. In addition, there are heaps of ppl in cat 3 and even more in cat 4. I bet it's gonna take at least half a yr to process all cat 4 ppl who are waiting for their co desperately. My question is that the new point system is REALLY going to take into effect from July 1???:Randy-git:
  24. Hi Guys, I am facing very hard time with my visa application (skill : .NET technologies Specialist (ASCO 2231-79)), i have applied for visa on 23 July 2009, got mail from case officer on 8 APr 2011: For you application to be assessed the skills assessment provided needs to be for an occupation listed on the current Skilled Occupation Lists (SOL). The occupation on the skills assessment you provided with your application (NET’ technologies Specialist) is not on the current SOL. If you use the same documents provided at the time the original skills assessment was sought, the ACS will give you the opportunity to obtain another skills assessment. If you wish to obtain a skills assessment for the occupation nominated on your application or an occupation listed on the current SOL you will need to contact the ACS. To continue with the assessment of your application you need to provide a written explanation as to the current skills assessment on file not being for your nominated occupation and a skills assessment for an occupation list on the SOL. I have replied to this email and asked him is it ok to get the new skill assessment for "Developer Programmer (ANZSCO Code: 261312)". On this he replied that: The occupation you are seeking a new skills assessment for(Developer Programmer – ANZSCO Code: 261312) is on the current SOL and the assessment can continue once that skills assessment is received (providng the new assessment is based on the same evidence provided for the original skills assessment). However, please note that the occupation is not on the MODL (Occupation in Demand) so MODL points cannot be claimed. On your application you have claimed the 15 MODL points. As my prelimnary assessment is that you will not reach the 120 points required, I would suggest you seek sponsorship (state or family) to have the application assessed as a VE 176 which requires 100 points. Please forward the skills assessment to me when you receive it and if you obtain sponsorship send me the details and I will advise you of the requirements for the sponsorship you have obtained. This is really insane, after two years of waiting they are now saying that i am not eligible. They should process my application according to the old rules. Please advice me what should i do, should i ask my case officer that why my application is not processed under old rules?? thanks

Moving to Sydney in July ...

Hi, myself & my wife are contemplating moving to Sydney in July (work offer, not accepted ... yet!) but not having visited before feel ever so slightly over-awed! We are both early to mid 30-somethings and are really keen on a new challenge. Our first task (after accepting) will obviously be to find somewhere to live - after spending the last week attempting to find consensus via the net we are more confused than ever. We are keen to move out of the city (we have lived smack bang in the middle of the city in London for too long) but need to be an easy commute to CBD (early starter). Both of us are keen to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle so anywhere near the beach/harbour would be great (in saying that we are open to persuasion). After that we are quite flexible, we love the idea of shopping for fresh produce & don't feel the need to be near nightclubs/late bars (although we do like eating out!). We would expect to spend weekends out & about so somewhere with good transport links would be great (London is a nightmare). All the above is very vague but as we have only found out about the move in the last few weeks we are very much in the dark & would appreciate any suggestions PIO members could offer! All the best, TMoose
