  2. Hello We are going on a 3 month Rekkie on 7th April and were hoping to fly into Perth for 2 weeks, then fly on to Adelaide then get a motorhome / caravan and drive Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane Cairns, then fly home from Brisbane. We thought this the best route to try and maximise the warmer weather due to us coming in the winter. However we have had a few mixed stories regarding the weather. Could anyone shine some light on what it will be like when we are over? As ever your thought would be greatly recieved. Viks

    Citizenship Change 1st July?

Hi Alan, Peter, Tony, Gill Sorry to bring this up again but do know anymore about the date change to the Citizenship Laws? The Immi website still says 'Likely to be 1st July'. When are they likely to confirm this? Just wandered if you guys had heard anything else on the grapevine. Thanks for any help you can give. Sam :wubclub:

    July Applications

Is there anyone else out there who sent in a paper application in/before July and are still waiting for a case officer? We applied for a skilled 136 visa which was received in Adelaide on 30 July 07. We got acknowledgement on 5th December and are still waiting for a case officer. We sent our Medicals in August and our Police Clearances in December. We phoned in the early hours today and were told that they are only allocating CO for January 07. Surely this can't be right!?! 1st July - HELP US PLEASE!!!

:chatterbox:HELP - do we need to go out to Australia before the 1st July to vaidate our visa to qualify for the 2 yrs citizenship rule?? We were granted our 136 Skilled Working Visa in April and know we have until April 2008 to go out to Oz. We are planning to move for good by the end of the year but are worried if we arent in Oz over the 1st July that our visa's wouldnt have been validated and that we would come under the new rule and have to then wait 4yrs to qualify for citizenship? Come on there must be others of you out there in the same situation as us? Bruce and Sheila :arghh:

  15. The Australian Government has announced significant changes to its subclass 139 visa, commonly known as the Skilled, Designated Area-sponsored (SDAS) visa. Starting from 1 July 2006, incidentally the same day changes are being introduced for Australia's Working Holiday Maker visa, the subclass 139 SDAS will be replaced by a two-stage visa process. The visa will not be points tested. To be eligible for the first provisional portion of the new visa, known as the subclass 496, SDAS (Provisional) the visa applicant will need to: be under 45 years of age have a good level of English have recent work experience be sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area of Australia; and have skills and qualifications assessed by a relevant assessing authority as suitable for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). Once the Provisional visa has been granted the holder must retain that visa for at least two years. The applicant must also have complied with the conditions set out in the SDAS (Provisional) visa. SDAS (Provisional) visa holders should apply for a SDAS visa on or before the expiry date of their SDAS (Provisional) visa. To apply for the Residence portion of the visa, applicants must: have held the SDAS (Provisional) visa for at least two years be sponsored by an eligible relative have lived in a designated area for two years have worked full time in a designated area for 12 months; and have good English skills The applicants may be inside or outside Australia when applying for and granted a SDAS (Residence) visa.
