  7. Dear Citizens, First of all HELLO! I've been trying to find specific threads regarding the Finance Job Market in Brisbane; however I must have two left feet because I cant see any threads this specific. And perhaps Accountancy in general in Oz. So hopefully like a moth to the flame the title of this thread will attract those of you who have already landed in Oz, and have been trying to get that job of a lifetime [apparently there's a skills shortage ??] in the Brisbane area. What's been your story??? My background, hence the reason I ask. Briefly here's the boring science bit: EDUCATION: I have a B.Eng. degree in Chemical Engineering, and am now a Management Accountant; qualified member of ACCA in the UK [and now certified via CPA]. VISA: 175 permanent res. started May12, which means 18mths later before granted, circa xmas2013. WORK: 17yrs in Manufacturing. 4yrs Production Supervisor, moved company. 6yrs Analyst in Sales, then Supply Chain, 7yrs Management Accountant. ASPIRATION: to move into a more commercial/business partnering role than pure Accounting. People who have met me think I work in Sales lol I hope that's a compliment & I think I have missed my calling. Eventually General Senior Management probably in engineering/manufacturing as I do miss it. BUT....and from what I am reading from other threads, the real-life experiences of those of you in Oz [in various jobs] has been dire. No job, hundreds of CV sent off, no one getting back to you, being an immigrant means you're perhaps immediately excluded...all the while paying rent & living in a place more expensive than home, man I feel for you..... Is this the truth of it? where cost of living cf UK is alot higher; even read 1:2.2 how is it getting work, honestly? Hope I've included everything & hope it attracts my fellow Accountants. Remember if Accountancy gets too exciting; try Audit. KR

  16. Hi A quick question... Is a job offer required for the STATE sponsorship of Western Australia if applying from offshore??? If this is the case then its really disappointing for my sister. Discuss please!
  17. Hi all, I got my rsms last Nov and came to regional area in Jan this year to start my job with my employer. Just yesterday, one of the mgr shouted at me in the office and made an insulting remark which i felt was uncalled for. And i felt insulted by it. this is the last straw as i have had to endure previous similar incidents over the phone. When i spoke to the business owner abt it, he implied that the mgr was not in the wrong. I was not given any feedback as to my work performance before this incident but was only told during the talk with the owner that they do not think i am performing. I was also called a racist but they could not give any examples when i asked for it. Neither was there any clarifications with me when he 'heard about it' from 'the staff'. I am getting stressed about going to work everyday and not knowing when i will be shouted at again or being accused of not doing things which I did not know i should be doing. (Note: I took over from my predeccesor and did what I was taught and no one said things were done the wrong way then). After this incident, I am dreading to go to sleep because it will be tomorrow then when i wake up and I will have to go to work again. My question is will my RSMS be revoked if i leave this employer and work for another employer in the same town? I do not mind living and working in this town if i can find a job. My husband and I have even bought a property in town and he has also got a job. So i think we are committed to stay for the long haul. My employer has kinda threatened to say that if this is my way of trying to get out of the situation, he will have no choice but to report to Immi. Do I have a case? Distressed and teary. Cell13

    Really gutted.

I had an email yesterday from a lady I had contacted about a job back in march. She wondered if I was still interested and if I'd like to send my CV in as they were very interested. Back then I had expected to be in Sydney by july. They are interviewing from this friday. I just had a chat with her this morning and feel really gutted. They had hoped I would have already been in Sydney by now and hence the invite. They need someone to start within the next two weeks!.:cry::cry:
  19. Hi, My wife and I are considering applying for a 457 visa. To hopefully head off to Australia this August/Sept. My wife is a dentist. We are currently in the UK. I know a lot of these questions have already been asked but this is regarding to a specific sponsorship from DJS (dentist job search). I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me with some questions. 1) Does anyone have experience with DJS, if so what was your experience like? 2) We are considering Adelaide, is this a good area for work? What is the cost of living like? Any other opinions on Adelaide? 3) Are we eligible for the 'living away from home allowance' (LAFHA) 4)My wife is a dentist so we understand that she needs a full medical etc. I am not medical considering admin/bar work as a dependant on her visa, any idea what I need to get? 5) How much does the visa etc all cost, do we need a certain amount of cash in our account before we go (like the holiday working visa) and how much will we need between us or each? Much thanks

  23. Good day everyone, I am a 29-year-old software developer who has been working in the IT field for 10 years. I have taken charge in software development, project management and development consultancy. I am specialised in .NET area; in branches mainly as C#, ASP.Net, ADO.Net, SQL Programming, XML, Remoting, VB.NET, LINQ and also have upper-intermediate knowledge in JAVA, XAML, T-SQL and C++. I am moving to Brisbane in March 2010 with work-and-holiday visa which will allow me to work full-time in Australia for one year while my visa assessment for "Skilled – Independent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 175)" continues and hopefully finishes during the time I am working there. I am looking for a job in Brisbane in my field. It would be a great plus if the employer sponsored me while my PR assessment continued. I will have time to prove myself as a genuinely skilled programmer, since I will be on work-and-holiday visa for a year. Please pm me if you have any information, advice or suggestion regarding my post. I will be glad to forward my CV. Thank you very much in advance.
  24. Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and feeling like I need some words of wisdom (or comfort!) from people who know what I'm going through! My situation is that I am lucky enough to be an Australian citizen by descent, I applied for and was granted citizenship while I was backpacking around Australia in 2006. I then returned to the UK at the end of that year with my British partner who I met whilst travelling. We are now engaged to be married in July and had our first baby in December. We have decided to take the plunge and return to Australia permanently. So, we've started filling out the partner visa forms and compiling all the evidence we need to prove our relationship and I feel like my head is going to explode!!!!! I do know that I should be grateful that I have an easier route into Australia than most people and I am definitely thankful for that, it's just a looooooooot of paperwork to try and get done with a 6 month old baby in tow! Anyway, we've decided that Queensland is the state we want to move to, mainly for the weather and hopefully the job opportunities! We are both secondary school teachers (Science and PE) and were thinking that it would be reasonably easy to find jobs while its on the skills shortage list. But now, after reading so many negative posts on here, I'm really worried that we'll be jobless for the foreseeable future! We are in the process of registering with the Queensland government as teachers, but need a reference from current employers who don't yet know we are planning to leave! I can't really discuss this with people I know, especially not my work colleagues, as we're keeping it a bit of a secret until we know whether the visa will actually be granted (although I don't anticipate any problems). I was just wondering whether anyone else was in the same boat re: teaching jobs? Or if anyone has any advice? I'm feeling a little deflated as although I know from experience that we love Australia, it was a while since we lived there and so many people are posting on here with all sorts of negative stuff  re jobs, homes, schools, economy, Aussies hating POMS! etc. Sorry for the long post, just got nowhere else to vent  but aside from all the negativity I've seen from some (not all) of the posts on here I'm very excited and would love to share ideas with people on here!!!
