    food items????

what are the items you miss most off the supermarkeet shelves in england and if they were available to you here would you like to have the most??????? lesley x
  3. I've had a look through other threads and can't seem to find much mentioned about declaring items that have been brought in the past 12 months. I am moving to Oz in a few weeks with Doree Bonner - grew up there but have been here in the UK for nearly 14 years. Now I am going back (quite sudden) and have to pack up everything. But as it was sudden, I am stumbling on the declaring items brought in past 12 months - I can't remember when I brought most stuff, and I don't have the receipts for everything (I only keep receipts for electrical etc and none of that is coming) - and what about gifts? I got an expensive gift from someone fairly recently. What did everyone else do? And can they prove that you have had it less than 12 months if it is clearly used?
  4. Folks, Have any of you suffered loss of specific items from the goods you've had transferred over here, {comapny name removed}? I am trying to establish if there is any sort of pattern in such incidents. I am not so much interested in stories of late deliveries or of boxes which must have dropped off loaders and so on (though I am very sympathetic), nor at this stage in the unexpected ramping up of costs, it is more the individual loss of a valued or cherished item from a box where everything else was left, which you might think must have needed some kind of inside knowledge. If I can get together enough tales from dates within the last 6 months I will try and put together a portfolio to submit formally to the UK police. I think the kind of information I'll need will be dates, where packed, and what items went missing. Of course any claims of loss will need to be verifiable as far as possible - items should have been listed on inventories if the claim of the loss is to be taken seriously. Also, what luck have you unfortunates had when claiming from insurers for stolen items? I think that if something gets lost or broken at sea in a storm then the 1% excess we're liable for is reasonable, but when it is petty pilfering by the representatives of a removals company, then the removals company should pay from their own insurance, otherwise it is something of a thieves charter to the effect that up to 1% value of a customers goods can be stolen (so please help yourselves but practice restraint) and neither insurer nor removal agent suffers - the customer pays for the loss. I'd be interested in your comments and stories. Please give me some feedback and if there is sufficient interest I will take this forward.

  9. Hi there, I'm going back home to the UK pretty soon and will be shipping some items back. No more than 10 boxes worth. Any idea on a good reliable cheap company to use? I'm in Melbourne Thanks
  10. Hi Guys, We were at the point where we thought our grant was imminent. All items met etc. However, after more than a week's wait and no change I'm now worrying that we will be adversly affected because we are no longer on the CSL. I'm worrying about all sorts of things - like if DIAC leave it hanging our meds and PCs will eventually expire, like having to extend our rental (we've sold our house). We were hoping to go at the end of July. I'm so stressed by this I can't tell you. Just goes to show that even when you get to this stage it doesn't get any better. The last 2 years have been a nightmare !

Shipping Items on a Temporary Visa

Dear all, This is probably a silly question but please can you help? We are maybe going to Australia on a student visa. Are we allowed to ship our belongings over or not? I don't know if I've dreamt that customs don't release your goods because it shows an intent that you're going to stay. Does that make sense? Any advice will be greatfully received. Many thanks, Di:policeman:
  13. Just thought this might be of use to someone, we needed to purchase all electrical goods and someone we met suggested 'the good guys' not sure if they are Oz wide or just in Melbourne but for just under £1500 icl delivery this is what we managed to get 32" flat screen tv microwave dishwasher fridgefreezer 9kg load (ie big) washing machine DVD recorder/player granted we neither picked the most expensive or cheapest but it might give you an idea of cost. Don't forget to ask for a discount, especially if like us you get everything under one roof, regards Michelle

    Wooden items and quarantine

Okay, so this may seem a rather silly question/topic to those are in the know, but here goes anyway!!!.... I am thinking about moving to Oz permanently after spending a year out there and have been looking into shipping processes of my furniture and so on. I have already had problems sending small gifts over simply in the post, and wonder how strict the regulations are when moving personal belongings over, specifically, wooden items. I have items such as a wooden wardrobe, bed frame and so on, and want to know will these need to be irridated? If so, is this costly? Also, do even objects such as wooden picture frames need to irridated too or are they easily passed through quarantine?! Any help would be much appreciated, thanks! :-) GG :jiggy:

  17. We've had 2 removal companies around to give us a quote and both gave us different information re. our 'brand new items'..... We are taking over (brand new ...still in packaging/never opened) Garden furniture Mirrors Bedding 1 company said we would be best to un-pack it and let them pack it in their packaging as not to pay duty/tax once it arrives in Australia. The other company said it was alright to be left as it is in it's packaging as customs in Australia were looking for people bringing over 6 flat screens TV's..laptops etc. And that we wouldn't have to pay duty/tax on our items. Anyone got any experience re. this? Don't really want to get stung for tax...after we've already paid it here int he UK! Thanks in advance guys. Jenny

    Household Items 4sale

    Toaster & Kettel $35 Microwave $40 __________________________________________ Table and 6 chairs $60 ________________________________________________________
  20. We are looking to move to Perth area september 2009. I have a number of large items that I want to bring with me. Motorcycle. What do I need to do to bring my bike across. Snookertable. I have always dreamed of owning a house big enough to put a full size snooker table in. I aquired a table some years ago, and it has been in pieces ever since. Clearly this is very heavy with x5 pieces of slate each wieghing 500wgt, and I have been informed there may be issues with wooden items mainly the frame. Is weight a consideration when filling a container ? Will I need to treat the wooden items What happens when it arrives, do items like these causes problems, at the port. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Paul.
  21. just got visa through for my partner (defacto visa) and booked flights today but found out he will only get 20kg luggage allowance. Does anyone have any idea how much it is to send things over by surface mail?

  25. I saw on the news this morning a story about how pensioners are having it so rough they are having to stay alive by eating dog food! Now I can remember this story coming up in 1990 when i was backpacking here. I don't know how much dog food costs but i'm sure its more than a cheep tin of baked beans. So are they taking us for idiots or is australia so boring that they have to make up news?
