  1. Trawling through some old posts since finding PIO it seems to me that there have been many disillusioned folk that have gone back to the UK or are in the process of going home. Missing relatives, lack of work aside, it seems like there are many reasons from some finding Aussies ignorant/arrogant/thick (not to put too fine a word on it), to the weather, insects, boredom, and other things that I thought would hardly be a problem (at least not to me). Having never doubted coming here, and thinking about how I may have been put off by reading some of the posts that I have recently read, I thought it may be interesting to see if others who had misgivings, eventually grew to like the place by moving interstate. Did you find that a move improved your circumstance and your perception of Australia? I think it only fair to enlighten those wishing to emigrate to the fact that not all Australians and not all locations must be as bad as some have referred to in these forums. Is it fair to judge Australia as a whole when you have only experienced one city or state? Some of the misgivings that folk have on here were voiced many years ago when I first migrated which is why we chose Brisbane and I'm not surprised by the feelings of some who are disillusioned in others states. kev

    Thinking about moving interstate

First off i love the sunshine coast, there's just soooo much to do here and the scenery/climate is spot on. But i'm seriously considering quiting my job when my rental lease finishes end of april and trying out a few more areas, i've never been to south australia or western australia yet so my plan is to maybe hit the backpacker circuit for a few months. Then if i really fall for an area i can start looking for a more permanent job. What do you think? am i mad lol?
  3. My dad is arriving on November 21st (yipee), and will be with us until Jan 2nd when he'll travel to Brissy to see my brother. I want to buy my dad a bottle of Malt for chrissy, but although he likes a wee dram he's unlikely to finish the entrie bottle before he leaves for QLD. My question ... would he be able to take an opened bottle interstate? (so he could finish it over there?), or do I turn him into an alcoholic and get him to drink it all in 7 days??? Thanks Ali x

    Moving Interstate?

Has anyone made the move from Melbourne to Brisbane? We are having to relocate due to work situation here in Melbourne and wondered if anyone can give me any advice on things you didn't expect or think about..any differences you were not aware of but wish you had known. We are driving up there so if anyone can recommend places to stay on route that would be great. Any removal company recommendations would also be appreciated. We are with 3 here on PAYG is their network coverage any good in QLD or would you change over and to whom? Also with Bigpond for broadband is that easy to just change over with them, are there extra costs involved? I am sure i will think of lots more questions soon for you all.

    Interstate Dilemma

Hi, I have just moved to Brisbane from Victoria, which seemed a good idea at the time! all that sand sea and surf just an hours drive from Brisbane. Now the reality of what i've done has set in. I was happy in Victoria, just got a bit set in a rut and the thought of moving was exciting, think I looked at the move like going on holidays. as ive been to brisbane a few times and its a lovely place. Now I am missing what I'm used to friends, community etc. Hubby is on more money, but if we were to buy property that extra money would get eaten up with a bigger mortgage than what we had in victoria and the house still would'nt be as good as properties are so much more expensive. so we will have the extra value in the property but our day to day living would stay the same. So now I,m thinking we should have stayed there and at least be close to people and what we know, as we hav'nt made friends here and I'm also finding the humidity hard to deal with. Hubby isnt even interested in going to the beach as he says he's not a beach person:sad: but he's the sort of person to settle anywhere once he's made the move, and he feels we hav'nt given it enough time. So now I am thinking of going back later in the year and looking at this move as an expensive holiday. What do other people think. any advice would be appeciated. Thanks
