  1. Hi, my situation is..... I met my Austalian Boyfriend whist on a working holiday visa in australia. we met June 2009 and lived together as a couple in australia until may 2010, we then left australia, travelled for 1 month and arrived in UK june 2010. my australian boyfriend is on a youth mobility visa for living and working in uk (same as working holiday visa for australia) this visa allows him to stay in uk for 2 yrs and that is what we were planning to do, leaving uk june 2012 to both head back to australia to live permanently, i would have applied for a defacto visa before hand. BUT.... now i have found out i am pregnant, and we wish to leave uk now as want to get settled in oz before baby due in september. we have our flights booked already leaving uk 4th march which is in 3 wks time!!!! I will need to apply for defacto visa when in oz, and understand i can get a bridging visa until a decision is made. BUT... i now have found out i will need to apply for a ETA visa to even enter australia for a 3 month period. does anyone out there know if this will affect me applying for a defacto visa whilst on an ETA??? we do not have time to apply for defacto whilst in uk as only have 3 wks here until we fly, they wont offer me bridging visa outside oz, so how do i get in to be able to live with my boyfriend and have our baby there?????? any help appreciated asap please

    More Info on Redcliffe pls

Hi All, We are a family of four (2 boys aged 3.5 and 1.5). We are currently researching places to live in north Brisbane and particularly like the look of Redcliffe. It ticks the boxes for us in terms of being close to the beach, not too long a commute to Eagle Farm and we can find rentals within our budget. I was just wondering if anyone lives there with small children? Is there plenty to do for little ones, toddler groups, classes etc? Are there any negatives for families? Many Thanks Louise
  4. My baby girl ( she is 5 but still my baby lol )german shepherd has just been diagnosed with anal furunculosis( awful condition) . Completely devastated . We are a long way off getting to oz waiting for smps. But just wondered if anyone knows of anyone who has taken a dog to oz with this condition . She is on medication now ( so expensive fingers crossed it will ease it and sort it ) but will always have it so will flare up now and again . I am so sad right not .Silly i know but knocked me for 6 this morn when the vet told me
  5. Hi All, Sorry if I am asking questions that a million people have before me but please bear with me! Currently I am studying a Primary Education 4 year QTS degree and my boyfriend is studying a degree in Computer Science once we have completed our education and our 2 years experience in our respective professions we would very much like to move to Oz. Now I understand from the little research that I have done that Primary Teaching is not currently listed on the skilled workers list but I.T Professionals are on this list. I am naively hoping this may change in the next 5 years. Now for the questions.... Would it be possible for us to obtain a visa based on the requirement for his skills alone? In order for us to enter as a couple would be need to be married? Sorry if these questions are stupid but we really are on the first steps of our journey... I hope to hear from someone soon and thanks!

  12. Hi all, i saw an advert for this site in the Austrlia and NZ emigration magazine, if some one could point me in the right direction to start our journey to the promissed land! My wife and I have now decided enough is enough and want a better life down under with our 3 sons 12,6 and 3, I am 38 & my wife 37. I am a qualified Agricultural engineer up to Diploma in Ag eng, I have been in sales with in the agricultural industry for the last 10 years, and for the last 5 years of the 10 in media sales for an Agricultural Newspaper, with 10 years of practical experiance in Agr eng prior to my current position, i don't have the required 3 out of the last 5 years experience in the ag eng state sponsor ships so where to go now. Am planning to got to the Down under live 2011 in Birmingham at the end of Feb, but in all industries i know there are people out there to make a quick buck, i don't want to be ripped off. Waffling a bit here, but a bit i could do with some basic information on the route to success. Many thanks in advance Regards Neil

    Conflicting info from agents

Hi all, we have been contacting some prospective agents about our visa chances. We know we can do a 176 WA SS but we seem to be getting different views on if my Hubby can get his skills and IT qualifications accessed. One has said they are happy to take us on but another is saying that 8 years needs to be proven but Hubby has just over six years. Do we go to the highly recommended agent who has seen Hubby's CV and is happy to take us on or worry that what the other agent says is true and we won't pass ACS assessment? We are also waiting to hear back from a few more agents so that will be interesting! I just feel a bit flat now but felt so great after speaking to the agent that agreed to proceed. They wouldn't take us if we didn't have s chance of success would they? Alan Collett might be able to answer that as I refer to his recommended company! Thanks guys Nicky x
  14. hi all, i'm one of those unlucky ss applicants that was left behind when the first batch of smp was released. i'm very very very sad right now. i hope a new list will be published soon. but any one knows when this will take place? 3jps
  15. Hello, My family and I are hoping to emigrate to Australia in the near future. I am currently an Instrumentation (and control) technician/engineer at a factory that produces chipboard, MDF and other wood based panel products. I served my apprenticeship as a maintenance electrician, but am now on the instrument 'side' of things. One plant in the factory prodcues formalin and therefore is an ATEX rated zoned area and all the equipment is Ex rated. I am struggling to find information on whether the ATEX directive applies to Australia or whether they have their own directive. I know ATEX is predominantly European based, but some website suggest that ATEX also covers Oz.... I have completed a course covering Ex gas zones and equipment and am wondering if this will be valid down under... Any information, website links etc on explosive atmospheres (gas and dust) in Australia would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance, Elliott
  16. Hi all Just in case you were unaware, today, Thursday 13th January 2011 is the Major Offer Round for most tertiary courses in Queensland. Unfortunately due to the flooding, QTAC's servers went down and areas around the QTAC offices are flooded out. Consequently their website is all down and it is not know when they will resume service but hopefully it shouldn't be too long. If you're sat tight waiting in the UK to hear in regards to a tertiary offer, or you're already here in Australia waiting on the news, or you know someone who is in this position, advise them they are unlikely to hear just yet. If I or anyone else knows any more on the situation as it develops, let them know/post here! I apologise on behalf of QTAC... I don't work for them or anything, but I heard it all on the QUT News Facebook page and I work just around the corner from QTAC's building. Thanks, and good luck (when you hear!) LukeM.
  17. Hi everyone, How much information would you say would be enough to prove your commitment to the state? I don't want to bore the pants off them by sending pages and pages of our research but obviously at the same time I don't want to send too little. Can anyone suggest a reasonable amount of info that would be sufficient ie: 3000 words, 3 pages, a whole trees worth etc. Any help/guidance will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance Clare x
  18. *APOLOGIES FOR DOUBLE POST - put this in News, Goss & Chat too so more people would see it!!!* :chatterbox: Hi all Just in case you were unaware, today, Thursday 13th January 2011 is the Major Offer Round for most tertiary courses in Queensland. 19. Hi all! We are still dreaming of getting to Brisbane at some point this year! During our reccie last year I did not check out the mountain biking scene in and around Brisbane. I am really into Mountain biking, cross country and generally seeing the countryside and riding off road, uphill and downhill. Can anyone please let me know if they are into mountain biking and if much goes on around brisbane? Are there many trails and which areas are best? I am worried that when a leave Yorkshire for Brisbane I may not be able to take this hobby with me?? Many thanks!
  20. Hi, I just need some information, We are renting an apartment in Brisbane, QLD, we are ending the lease and made the estate agent aware 2 weeks ago, we still have 2 months and 3 weeks left on the lease, we received a text tonight telling us that they will be showing prospective tenants around our place on Saturday, obviously I understand this needs to be done but it seems ridiculously early. I guess my question is where do we stand on how often they are allowed to do this as we have other things to do than spend all our time waiting in our home and constantly having strangers walking around it for the next 3 months? Again, we are aware that it is the right of the agent to show people through but how often? Any info would be appreciated,

    Info needed

Hi, I'm new to this and would appreciate as much info as possible on visa's/moves etc. I have been offered a job in Perth under a permanent Labour Agreement. Whilst the title seems to say it all, I was wondering if this really does mean that, once we are out there it really is it or whether there would be any other processes/form filling etc. We have a 7 year old son who is currently in year 3 and I would want to make the move as stress free as possible for him. How on earth do you go about finding a good school/registering him. Do schools tend to have after school clubs? What are nice areas to live in which have good transport to the city? I know questions like this have been asked hundreds of times but it would be good to get some replies and to keep in touch with some people on a regular basis. Vanessa
