Hi all, I'm due to move to Oz in January next year (Sunshine coast). I thought I'd look up the prices of commonly bought item during a weekly shop with brand names and create a spreadsheet to compare prices at home using an exchange rate of 1.60 I used Coles online shopping to find the items. Might be useful, might not but its there for anyone who want to see. Rakesh

Hello, We have just sold our house and must be out by the end of January and we wont be taking much of our furniture. I have started researching on how to most profitably be rid of it but I would be really grateful to hear other people’s experiences both good and bad. Thanks so much.

What household goods/car to take in a 40' container?
philkef posted a topic in Shipping and Removals
We are now considering a 40' container for our move this summer. Buying at Euro tax free prices in Germany where I am with the military seems like a good plan as the pound v dollar becomes a joke ... sadly not a funny one mind you. ikea for eg in europe has a bigger range and cheaper prices. keep it flat pack and boxed til we get there for the kids desks and the spare rooms etc even their sofas are looking quite tempting presently when looking at oz prices. the 40' container will also house our car and we have been quoted 7000euros door to door for all furnishings and the car in the container which i think happens to be a good price. the car is a 2006 skoda superb (vw passat on an audi a6 chassis) worth 5000 over here. with compliance costs and some tax discounts because we have owned it for 2 years (so long as it is ok to import) i think it is worthwhile because of the exchange rates - we will just run it til it dies - servicing etc will be reasonable and parts ok - any disagreements please let me know let me know your thoughts on my furniture/container/car plan. advice gratefully received! phil- 13 replies

Can anyone recommend a cleaner/domestic or know someone mature/reliable/honest and thorough to do some light cleaning/tidying 2-4 hours a week in Woodvale? I am sick to death of running around after work with a mop and vacuum cleaner after a hard day at work and am seriously considering paying someone to do it for me at a reasonable rate. Probably 2 days a week to suit the person after 12pm for 1-2 hours a day. Please contact me through the PM facility if interested or any recommendations. Many thanks Fiona

URGENT help please - customs declaration for importing household goods
Cookiecrew posted a topic in Visa Chat
Please can anyone help me urgently? I'm trying to fill out the AQIS form for customs and there is a question asking if our possessions contain any of the following goods subject to plant quarantine laws - plant or parts of plants - to which we have said no, but then it says Furniture or other articles of wood cane or bamboo. Obviously our furniture is made of wood as are some ornaments but is this question only relating to the first part about plant material? or do we have to say yes - even though it is all treated wood. Secondly, are duvets allowed if they contain feathers? Do you have to declare these? Thanks for any suggestions/answers. C- 5 replies

Hello, Can anyone offer any advice on insurance for household goods shipments? We have selected Pickfords for the move and are not sure whether to use their insurance or to go with Letton Percival, who have provided a much more competitive quote. Has anyone had to claim from either of these companies during their move and if so, how easy was the process and did the payment covers any losses? Also, we're not sure whether to go for 'all risks' or 'total lost'. Again, any advice would be gratefully received. Thank you.
