    Car Hire

Guys and Girls please all be careful when hiring a car out here. Please check that you have RACQ (or similar) cover on the car. When I hired our car it broke down and I had my 19th month old baby with me. Lucky for me the car did have cover but the car hire company would not let the Racq repair the car and left me and my family without a car. Even more lucky a friend picked us both up and took us home but this could of been allot worse. Just ask the question before parting with your good money. Gav

    Car Hire Dilemma

Hi' All Will be on our way to Start a new life in Melbourne in a few weeks, but we have a dilemma. We have been unable to obtain car hire through the fact we have cancelled our credit cards prior to us moving over, the car hire company's all require a holding deposit/bond from $350 - $1000 to be placed on the credit card ,have tried many on the internet but no luck ( it's not the paying of the car hire as we can do this with our debit card from the UK,but we will only have cash/travellers chqs with us when we arrive) wanted to see if anyone else has had the same problem and if so how/if they got round it or is there any car hire firms out there that can help??. Kind regards. ClanMackay:unsure:
  11. Hi Everyone, I've been passed on details of a company called Hire A Migrant. They seem to specialise in finding people work and basically liase with us the clients and potential employers in OZ. This seems a good idea in principal as for people like myself who need a 457 employer sponsored visa it means I have someone in OZ doing the work for me trying to set up interviews. Recruitment companies don't want to know because I'm 10,000 miles away with no Visa! (which you can understand), and employers rarely get back to you for the same reason so theoretically it seems good in principal. The downside is that the fees seem to be $4000 which are payable up front, so the million dollar question is has anyone used their service and are they any good??
  12. Hi Everyone Does anyone have any experience in dealing with either of the above companies? They both seem to offer what appear to be helpful services to would be migrants if they really do produce what they promise. I know they are both showing at various Expos coming up soon so any info you could provide on either of them would be appreciated. If they are for real, then they seem to give a solution to the problems of people needing sponsorship - or am I gettin the wrong end of the stick? Thanks

    For Hire

One male. Aged 40 years of age. 14st 6lb, very fit and healthy. Experienced in Railways and Railway work, station, freight, signalling, Control Operations. Possesses a HGV licence. Very careful driver. Can speak a bit of Spanish. Will do anything for sponsorship, (well within reason coz I have a wife and kids) and very rarely off work sick. Fantastic attitutde to life and work and 100% behind getting the job done right first time. Absolute workhorse and looking to get out of this Cesspit (my opinion and does not represent others). Prepared to learn plumbing, bricklaying, electrical and anything that meets the Australian's "Come here life is better than that S**Thole of a Country called Britain" criteria. Looking for sponsorship but must have at least $40,000 a year, (o and yes that includes the Medicare deduction) Well it's worth a go. You just don't know who reads these posts. Anyway, have received replies from ARG Freight in Perth and Queensland Rail. Thanks for replying. Connex in Melbourne replied after 3 days (better late than never) and gave me a link to click onto to apply, which went to "404 Not Found, The requested URL /about_employ/index.asp was not found on this server.Go to Home page". Yeah thanks. So it's CV time, or Resume time as per the Australian code. So what's next. Interview if I am lucky and an expensive flight across to be told thanks but no thanks ????? Hope I'm wrong but the consolation is at least I will have visited Australia at last. So it's Perth first then Brisbane. :twitcy:

    Car Hire

Hi all, Anyone got any advice on best car hire companies, prices and how to go about organising car hire (online before you go/wait until you get there?) We were in Brisbane at Christmas and used Avis, we were only there for 4 days and paid for car hire through Trailfinders can't remember exact cost. Any help would be appreciated.
  16. I've just read in the rough guide that car rental companies insist on a clean license.. This could seriously affect our mobility in Oz. I have got 6 points on mine  Anybody have any experience, please? I know I can trade my U.K. license in for a clean Victorian one, but wouldn't I need a fixed address for that, or could I use our short-stay apartment address? HELP :!:
