  1. Hi everyone! Just wondered if there are any groups or meet ups that go on in the Sydney CBD/ Surry hills or city area. Most of the people seeking friends on this site seem to be in the suburbs, am I the only one in this area seeking friends, I am convinced there must be others that need friends in the area?! ( surely I can't be the only one)? I am in my early 30's and although enjoy a laugh, a girly chat, giggles and laughs I am not really massively into the pub/club scene much anymore ( although on occasion still dabble)! I am much more likely to be found pondering art, vintage shopping, sipping lattes or enjoying the sun and outside. I am currently not working and so have plenty of spare time ( that is both good and bad) I am child orientated ( That's what I do for work, when at work) so I'm not put off by people who have kids- as some are! Any one in the same boat, looking for friendly chat and whittling the hours away, drop a line, I look forward to hearing from you Tara

    Castle Hills Schools

Hi, We plan to move out to Sydney in August with our two children (14 and 9). Can someone make school selection/charges a little simpler please. I understand that the academic year starts in January ?? If we move to Castle Hiils (or surrounding areas) in August, without having enrolled them anywhere, Is it likely that we will still get places and into school for the new year? Thanks

About 3 weeks work maybe more; take down internal walls, support roof, new kitchen and bathroom and some other bits and bobs externally. We like the workmanship style from back home, so if you know anyone, please feel free to PM me some contact details and I will happily call. Thanks so much in advance. D

  8. We havent started the visa process yet as we have given ourselves until Xmas to make the mighty decision (although I think we already have!!) We are looking at various areas in and around the hills to settle. We are looking at somewhere rural with good schools kids 9 and 4, some shops or larger stores nearby. Hubby works offshore in the oil industry so we need to be no longer than 1 hour away from the airport. Near a train line would be a bonus! The areas we have looked at so far (with help from Google Earth) are Mundaring, Roleystone, Kalamunda, Kelmscott. Can anyone give us some help regarding these areas or suggest others?
  9. Anyone out there fancy getting together for drinks one night - our place, kids welcome. Boards are packed full of Brizzy & Perth Poms, so it'd be nice to find out where the Sydneyites are and get to meet some of you. I'm thinking 3rd May, 6.30-7pm. Who can make it?

    Hills District, Sydney

Hi, My husband and I are just starting the migration process. If we do finally make the move, it will be to Sydney. Our main concern, like most, is whether we can actually afford to live anywhere nice. We have two girls and are looking for a good family area. We have been looking at the Hills District which is within our budget. I would be grateful if anyone could give me there opinions on the area (schools etc.) good or bad and also, what the commute to central Sydney is like as the OH will be working there. Many thanks Peeps. Victoria

    Baulkham Hills??

Hi all, Just got back to UK after visiting sister who has moved to Oz and now lives in Mosman. Goes without saying that we loved it! I have a fiance, a 3 yr old girl and a 1 yr old boy. We are now making preliminary enquiries into coming over and the big question is if we did it, where would we live? After having done a bit of research, I think the Northern Beaches are out of the question budget wise which is a same because of my sister and we also have friends in Dee Why and Manly. Can anyone give any feedback on the Baulkham Hills area? I have come across some very conflicting reports... I don't want to be a slave to the mortgage, but at the same time we don't want to live in an area with the same social-economic problems as UK. NSW generally seems expensive but it makes sense to be somewhere that we know people right from the off. Any advice greatly appreciated.
  16. What better way to start a Sunday morning than getting together with a few fellow Brits? (I'm sure someone will list all the better ways you could start a Sunday!!!!). Anyway, get yourselves over to the Hills District - bring a plate of something simple to share and whatever takes your fancy to drink at that time of day. 10.30am onwards. That way you've still loads of time left to do whatever you usually do on a Sunday! Kids/spouses etc all very welcome. PM me for address & phone no. etc.

    The Hills - Sydney

Hi, I have a firm job offer, with all visa work done, so really its just yes or no! ANyway the office is in Castle Hill, I would like to live around there so to avoid a commute, everywhere I read says that it is a good area etc... but I need convincing. I have 2 boys 8 and 10 and they will need to go to school, so has anybody any experience of the schooling around this area, or can anyone shed a light on the best suburb for me to live in, with education being the prime concern. Thanks Ian
  18. Hi All, Well i have just started using this forum and i am addicted to it already!! Me, Stephen and our 3 kids Laura 14, Daniel 13 and Joseph 10 are moving to Brisbane on 28th February and i am frantically researching tne area around about where Stephen will be working. He will be working in Wooloowin but that looks a bit expensive so there is quite a few suburbs around there like Bracken Ridge, Bald hills, Bridgeman downs, Aspley and Albany Creek. Is there any of you lot living there?? or anybody got any info on the schools around there?? Bracken Ridge state schools look really nice?? Any info good or bad would be very much appreciated. We were originally going to Adelaide but everything changed when Stephen got a job offer in Brisbane just before Christmas!!! Since then have been panic mode:chatterbox:dont know wether i am coming or going!! Looing forward to hearing from anyone!! Nicola x

We are going to rent for the first year and Ill be working a stones throw from North Sydney Station. We have looked at Baulkham Hills,Crestwood,Glenwood, and also Woy Woy areas. HELP! We are looking for a compromise between costs and spending all day on the train. Also not having lived in any of these areas before are there places to avoid? The school needs to be a good one as she is in her last year although I think that she goes back a year from the UK. Any help would be much appreciated. Jon

  23. My husband, our 4 year old, our 8 month old and I will shortly be moving to Sydney. My husband's job is based in Parramatta and we are therefore hoping to live in the Hills district. Our plan is to rent initially, at least for a year, before committing to buy. Could anyone give us any advice/recommendations on which suburbs in the Hills district are family orientated, safe and friendly? Or more importantly - which ones should be avoided! Also, are there any schools (for my 4 year old to start at in January 2008) which have especially good reputations? Are the state schools a good standard or should I be looking at the independent ones? Any other information about life in the Hills would be appreciated!
