  3. My parents and three siblings live in brisbane and i am trying to get out there, I am having to wait another two years before i can apply in my own right as you need 4 yrs exp afer you have qualified, i already had a working visa 8 yrs ago and looking for a company who will sponsor me i have 5 yrs experience and currently am a manager of a salon in leeds ( U.K). I am visiting my parents for 3 weeks on the 9th of feb and would be willing to meet anyone interested in what i have to offer.I would be willing to pay all sponsorship fees etc if anyone would be willing to give me a chance. 4. Hi,my partner has been a hairdresser for the past 6 years. He was trained by Toni and Guy, where he worked in a salon and was taught by the Salon owner who is a qualified hairdresser. He has a Toni and Guy Diploma which took 1-2 to train for in the salon setting and culminated in a 6 week intensive assessment course at Toni and Guys Training College in London. Since then he has worked full time as a hairdresser We have been looking at the Trades Recognition Australia Migration Skills Assessment Application and think we may be able to apply under Skills Pathway B. But we have been advised that he would need a qualification from a government regulated body. Is this correct? Or would a Diploma from Toni and Guy be sufficient as they are an international company? We are worried that if he has to study further for an NVQ in Hairdressing in the UK he would then need to work for a further 3 years afterwards before applying for to the TRA again. wer feel totally confused at the moment!!

    Hairdresser - Berwick

Hi all I am a mobile hairdresser living in Berwick. I have 20 years experience with a City and Guilds qualification.
  6. just thought I'd share this one with you. When my folks emigrated back in the 1980's we actually got out on my mum's hairdressing skills and not my dad's roofing / rendering (roughcasting) skills. Anyway my mum started up her own salon and was doing a roaring trade. then some civil servant showed up and insisted that my mum needed to pass some practical test etc. My mum failed this (even though she had been working as a hairdresser in UK for 15+ years and had her city and guilds) and had to close her shop. this civil servant had obviously been notified by some other hairdresser probably pissed that my mum was stealing all her custom. Seems that despite all the skill shortages in Oz there are still many hurdles and perhaps resentment to incomers who are perfectly good at their jobs and the Aussies don't like it?
  7. Can anybody please help. Since arriving in Sydney last September I have had so many bad haircuts and colours that I have lost count of the times I've said "Never mind, it will soon grow out". My OH and son have come out of the barbers with chunks of hair missing, literally !! Does anybody know of a good, reasonably priced hairdresser in the North West of Sydney, I'M DESPERATE :arghh: Thanks Blondie (well, more like brown with blonde bits now)
  8. Hi guys, just got a call back from Go Matilda, I'm a hairdresser, I finished my private training with Vidal Sassoon in 2005, got my NVQ2 within the course, I've just been informed that I need 4 years work experience after my training, I have done 2 1/2, I can't believe it's 4 years. I'm off on my recce in 2 weeks, I don't think I can stand 1 1/2 more of life in the UK before I can apply!. My Dad's cousin lives in Melbourne, does this help my visa options?. Any advice is more then welcome!!.

  13. Hi all I would like to do my own application and not use an agent. Firstly, the cost and second I like a challenge! My wife qualifies as a nurse in 4 months so we were thinking of starting the process around march next year.So hopefully have all the paper work done by the end of 2009 (one years experience) ready to put in for the 175 visa. What would be our first port of call? Do I need to go to Lisa's college and ask for a complete breakdown of how she was taught for the skills assessment? Now to add another log to the fire.....my 21 year old step daughter wants to come as well. She did about 1.5 years of a college full time hairdressing course before she left and her employer then paid for her to go to a private college where she topped up on what she had to do to get the NVQ 2 qualification. She has also gone on to do the level 3 NVQ in hairdressing. She will have 4 years experience when we put in for the visa. OR Should she get a 1 year working visa, come with us and then find a salon that would sponsor her? BTW we are looking to go to either GC or WA? JOHN

    Hairdresser employers?

Hey there, Right can some one please help me. I have sent of my DE FACTO visa off and is currently processing, but i am also a hairdresser but the easiest route for me was defacto visa rather than the skilled visa. However i was under the impression (dont ask me where from) that i would still have to get my Trades assessed to work as a hairdresser. After emailing the immigration office they have told me that you only have to get your trades assessed if you are going throu the skilled visa. I am however worried when in get over to Sydney and i have all my qualifactions and referances that they will ask for my trades certificate. Has n e 1 else been through this? And as an employer what do they ask for from a u.k hairdresser if they have residency but havent gone throu skilled visa? Thanks for ne help.:twitcy:

  23. Hi I am thinking of paying for a course either in Brisbane School for Hairdressing, Matters of Gray or Perth Institute. If I was to gain the Hairdressers Cert III how likely am I going to be to get work, sponsored or a permenant visa? Is this is a good way about it? Otherwise I would have to train in the UK and that takes a lot longer. Many thanks. Michelle X
