  1. Hi, I'm Jo, I used to be a regular on this site but haven't been on for a while :embarrassed: I've lived on the Gold Coast on and off since September 2007, (ping pong Pom!), and would love to meet some more new people. I'm 35, don't work, and now my youngest is at school I find myself talking to my dog for company! I live in Maudsland (Park Lake), just behind Pacific Pines, so please pm me if you are free and would like to have a coffee.
  2. We live in Adelaide and we are hoping to move to Gold Coast and my wife has been a AIN (Assistant in Nursing) for three years in a Private Hospital here in Adelaide and for 15 years in England. How do we go about contacting hospitals / nursing agencies regarding AIN jobs in Oncology and Haemotology department. What is the best way of gaining employment, who do we contact, which hospitals have Oncology and Haemotology services I am also looking to work as a Rehabilitation Consultant Tony

migrant agent for 457 visa, Help!

hello, my partner is currently on a WHV on gold coast, were now looking into using a agent to start our 457 process, now chris is a plasterer so we knew it would be hard to get a sponsor by ourself! i attended 'down under live' yesterday and got really useful info off a agent who is actually bases on the gold coast! she said we submitt chris's cv to them, they find him a sponsor who agrees to pay the $51000 a year, they do the visa application for us, altho all this was to cost $7500. its the first contact we have had with a agent as ye, but was wondering if anyone else used a agent to help with 457 and how much was it?

  5. Hi everyone, I just wondered if anyone could recommend any good/affordable dentists around the Varsity Lakes area & surrounding suburbs (Robina/Burleigh/Miami/Broadbeach/Surfers etc). We are bracing ourselves for the cost of getting dental treatment here! Our medical insurance doesn't include dental treatment (new to Oz so actually not sure if you can get dental care on health insurance or you need to get a separate dental plan but I guess thats another question!) Thanks Mark

    Cairns or Gold Coast???

G'day peoples. :em3600: I was born in Perth but have spent most of my life in England. I am returning to Australia this year with my husband and my son. Thing is, we can't decide between Cairns (Which looks simply stunning and never gets cold) and the Gold Coast (which may have more opportunities and things to do for teens). Any pros and cons on either place please...? Many thanks Chantel

  8. Hi, I'm a 22 year old midwife and myself and a colleague are hoping to move to surfers paradise/southport to work later this year. We are hoping to rent a 2 bedroom apartment but are struggling to find information about the cost of utility bills so cannot work out what we can afford. Does anyone have any information on average utility bill costs. Also does Australia have anything additional to that which we pay in the UK. Thank you in advance for any information. Kerrie
  9. Hey My name is Claire I am 36 I have a 3 year old,I have been here in Oz for 5 years now and live in Labrador I originally come from Bexleyheath in Kent, I am on my own now and really would love some new friends. I can get quite busy during the week as I have gone back to studying, but hang out down at the broadwater in Labrador at the weekends, its pretty cool, great chippie, swing park on a beach with a man made lagoon which is def safer for the little ones. I have been through the spouse visa through to getting my permanent visa so may be able to help if you need some. I would love to meet up with brits, maybe we could organise a bbq or a meetup? If anyone wants to catch up give me a shout. Claire x

  11. Tourism Australia is running an online campaign at the moment, promoting locations around Australia in short online videos, featuring, backpackers, tour guides etc to lure more young people Down Under to work and play. The Tourism Australia campaign, 30 days in Oz, consists of 30 online videos, each following someone different in locations around Australia, with each demonstrating in 60 seconds why "there's nothing like Australia for young travellers." Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said the campaign would promote the Working Holiday Visa and encourage young people to consider Australia as a place to work or travel, particularly those leaving school or on a Gap Year. "One of Tourism Australia's objectives is to get more young people to holiday in Australia. These travellers often become lifelong advocates, influencing friends and family of all ages to holiday in Australia and returning themselves later in life," he said. "We also know from research that many of these visitors are backpackers, who spend more time travelling and explore more of Australia than other travellers, which is one of the reasons the youth market is such an important one for us." 12. Hi! I'm new to this forum, I'm a kiwi who has lived in London for the past 11 years, and recently spent 6 months in Sydney where I took a change of career and started working for a Recruitment Consultancy, now I'm back in London, and able to help other people based in the UK who want to move to Oz find a job to get themselves started! We have a vacancy for a senior (10+ years experience) Retail professional in Brisbane. The role is Business Analyst, Sales Channel, and is within a huge brand in the retail industry. They are looking for a senior candidate with experience implementing Retail store information systems, POS, and well as SAP CRM (including loyalty management, campaign management and web store solutions) Strong Retail Business Process knowledge in areas including: Retail store operations (Sales, Pricing and promotions & Inventory management), Online store operations, Customer relationship management (including multi-channel sales and marketing to attract, retain and grow value of customers) The salary package is competitive given the seniority of the role, and obviously Brisbane is a great place to live..... they really want to find a great employee which is why they are happy to look overseas and sponsor the right candidate. If this sounds interesting to you, or you'd like to discuss your experience with me in general please get in touch. Thanks, and I look forward to meeting everyone via this forum! Sarah
  13. HI, We will be moving to the gold coast (yah!) in June this year and have a temporary place for one month but I just wanted to know what is the best way to find a rental. I know you see rentals at realestate.com.au that you can apply for but besides that when you are actually there do you just walk into realestate agents to find out what is available to view or is there particular agents you can contact who deal with rentals specifically so you get a wider choice? Is it also worth driving around the areas to find advertisements for houes for rent? We are hoping to rent in the varsity lakes, mermaid waters, robina areas. 2/3 bedroom house. So what would be our first point of contact when we arrive to help us find a rental? I have read some great threads here about what to do when viewing and what to expect but could not find anythng on finding the rentals to view. Thanks very much for any help

    1 week to go...

Hello all, I have one week left in the UK. Tracking my worldy goods across the world. Very lucky to have relatives to stay with early doors. But in need of friends, job, home, car etc. It is a very worrying moment. Leaving my job of 11 years. Words of advice great received. My son loves Pre-school will come over to nothing as 3 and half so no school as I understand it until 6 in Queensland, when all his friend will be starting reception. I need sloution to this problem I hope there is things we can do that will not cost to much. I'm worried about his social side as an only child. He is already starting to play up. I'm worried but excited too. So long to get to this point, things have changed so much from when we started and got the visa, being well off to really just about getting by if the exchange does perform a miracle, what with the drop in house prices and of course giving up a well paid jobs for potientally nothing at the moment. It is that once in a lifetime moment we hope we get right. Very costly if not. My husband is a very skilled electronics engineer in avonics. So any leads would be good. Our drem to build a RV10 4 seater. The reality at the moment to find a rental and a car and work out the rest from there. Any help/social contact particularly those with younger children would be most helpful. Thanks Sarah (34), Tony (40), Ryan (3) :chatterbox:
