  1. So I've been living in England for around 6 years now (Born in UK, moved to Tassie, lived there for 8 years - up to grade 3 - , moved back to England - year 4 to year 10 (present)) My family is thinking of moving back to Aussie after I finish my GCSE's (year 11 finals) as I am currently near the end of year 10. We are not sure when/if we will be moving so I will most likely be doing college prep/searching for colleges in the UK but I do not know whether or not I will actually be going to college in the UK before we move to Taz. I don't really know much about Australian high school qualifications and stuff so I do not know what the GCSE equivalent is or what it means. I do want to go to college (idk if its university in Taz) though but I do not know what qualifications I need to be able to get into the colleges and whether my GCSE grades will be enough. I will be 15 doing my GCSE's and at least 16 when moving. Should I instead make sure I complete my college/year 12 A-Levels before moving or will I be fine with my completed GCSE qualifications? Any help would be appreciated as to what the schooling system is in Australia (i.e. primary school -> highschool -> college/uni etc.) and what I would need to do to be able to get into colleges. Sorry if this is confusing, I wasn't sure how to word it. Let me know what you have to offer to this topic, thanks!
  2. Hi, Long story short : I lived here in Qld 10 years ago, had 2 children, got divorced then moved back to uk to be near family. x is Australian so he stayed. Now my situation so far is, I moved to qld in August this year with my 2 teenage children, 13 & 16. They have settled well into the lifestyle. They get to see their father who is Australian more often. I have managed to find a job but am unable to find full time hours in the area I chose to live. I left my house in the uk thinking I could rent it out as renting has never been a problem is the area. But then changes happened to the school and families are moving elsewhere. Sadly this has not happened and my funds are dwindling paying mortgage there plus rent, bills over here. The housing market there is not looking good to sell. The outlook of staying looks quite grim. So realistically thinking, I'll be going back. My eldest has also missed 4 months of gcse course work in the 2nd year, so am concerned as to will she be able to catch-up in time for exams. Any suggestions???
  3. Hey guys, I will be moving back to UK about half way through Australian year 10 (aged 16 as of May) and around the end of what I'm assuming is UK year 11. The problem with this is I will miss GCSE's and I have been told that you need them to finish school and to continue into Sixth Form, etc. Does anyone have any more information on this and know what may end up happening with me and my eudcation? Thank you in advance - Ryan.
  4. Hi I'm 15 years old and doing GCSE's in Maths,English,Chemistry,Biology,Physics,History,Geography,Photography,RE and Food Technology at my school. I'm quite academic at school and hope to go to university. My Family are very keen on leaving the uk and moving to Adelaide . I could be out there in weeks or months as people in Australia really want my stepdad to work for them and are keen to get him as soon as possible although I have the option to stay . My ambitions in life are to go and live in America but to do that I need good qualifications (dont know what career I want to take yet so have left it quite open). My questions are ....What's the education like there.is it good ? Is it better to stay in the uk? Are kids in Australia nice around my age? Would I suffer from the move as I have already done a quarter of my exams ? Thanks

    Aus equivelant to GCSEs?

Please can someone tell me what the Aus equivelant to GCSEs is please. Also, I'm out here on a spouse visa and at the moment its in the first part provisional stage. Does that mean I'm going to have to pay international fees even though I'm living over here? Thanks

    GCSEs and A-Levels

Does anyone know what the Australian equivalent of a GCSE and an A-Level is? I'm updating my CV and was a bit confused as to whether I should just leave it as is - do Australian employers acknowledge these qualifications?

Hi all, my 18yr old daughter who may or may not be emigrating with us want's to know if the 12 GCSEs that she got over here are recognizable over in oz,also could anyone give her any advise on how she can or even if she can enrole in nursing collage in Brisbane. Thanks Graham
  8. We have now been granted our visa and are heading to Brisbane, as it took longer than we expected our 14 year old son has now started his GCSEs and as you can imagine is reluctant to start all over again. Has anyone else emigrated in the middle of the kids GCSEs? Which year would he go into in australia , hes currently in year 10 here. Also when does the school year start in Australia? We are now wondering whether to just validate our visas and stay here another year and a half until he finishes, but I think it would be even harder for him to leave then. I would be grateful if anyone has been through the same problem and if their teenager likes the australian school system and is still talking to them!!!! Many Thanks Julie aaaah the joys of teenagers
  9. Hi We are a family of 4 from Manchester England going to queensland 2010 my eldest son will be in his last year at school year 11 over here and will have done his gcse's. dont understand what his position at school will be in Oz when we get there. Will he have to resit his gcse's and repeat his school year, because if he does we can go out there earlier, there doesnt seem any point oing them twice. My son is doing really well over here at school and I dont want to disrupt his education and confuse him!!!! Also he is very good at boxing, anyone got any info on boxing gyms on gold coast/sunshine coast need to find a good boxing gym!!!!! Daughters GCSEs

I really am getting myself worked up over this. :arghh:I dont want to ruin my daughters education so any advice anyone can give me here would be much appreciated. She is due to take her GCSEs May 2009 and is a A* student who we are extremely proud of. I need to know if it would be better for her to take her GCSEs here first then we go over to Aus or go ahead this year as we were planning to do originally. I'm not sure I really understand how the exam system works over there tbh. (thats why I wasnt a A* student:embarrassed:) Would her GSCEs mean much over there or not? She will be 16 in September so what school year would she be in if we leave this Summer? I also have a boy who has just turned 13 in Jan (very proud of him too:yes:)who is more into his sport rather than his education. I know he will be fine and throw himself into all the sporting activities available. Please if anyone can help me with this or have been in the same situation I would love to hear from you.:twitcy: Thanks.
