Has anyone bought any of the furniture packs as advertised by the likes of supr a mart and fantastic furniture. They look great value for money but I was wondering what the quality was like. 12. Hello... Any advice/comments/suggestions on whether it is actually worth taking all my household goods would be greatly appreciated! I have had a few quotes from removal companies ranging from £3,000 to £4,000 with varied cubic foot space too! I am wondering if it is worth selling most of my things in the UK, saving the shipping fee and then buying once I arrive in Perth... has anyone done this and what would you advise? My concern is the price of items in Perth, I am led to believe it is very, very expensive? Also, if you have any websites of stores in Perth I can look at please let me know! I have seen JBHi-Fi and there electrical goods are reasonably priced, I need to figure out prices of sofas and bedroom furniture really. Many thanks peeps.... Laura
  13. Had PSS round today to estimate for shipping, and the guy has recommended that I stain/varnish all of my Ikea Ivar shelving so that it definitely counts as treated wood and I don't get caught by customs and quarantine. Neither of the other two companies that have quoted for shipping have mentioned the shelving as an issue. So, has anyone had any trouble with Ivar shelving? Is the bloke just being as cautious as possible, or is this overkill?
  14. Hi every one. We are planning to move to Cairns in Jan 2012. Having looked at realestate.com.au web site , it looks like there are plenty of good quality furnished accommodation ( apartment complexes with pools , etc) in Cairns. They seem to be reasonable at 350 $ per week. Similar housing unfurnished seems the same price almost. This makes me wonder if it is worth bringing in furniture from the UK due to costs involved . Any one who lives in Cairns and knows the area well?? Any one recently been house hunting in Cairns - your experiences would be much appreciated. My employer is providing me with 3 month furnished accommodation with option of extending it at current market rates but I have not yet received any info on what they will provide . It is likely to be a an apartment complex though which will be of good quality. thanks guys

    Furniture galore??

Is this shop ok or considered more of a budget priced retailer? Been looking at the prices online and seems very reasonable.

    Gobsmacked - Ikea in Australia

Ikea fan here - looking at whether worth buying some furniture here in UK and shipping to Australia and almost collapsed when I saw how expensive Ikea is in Australia! Our chest of drawers cost us £75 (and indeed only now costs £76.60) but in Australia the same chest of drawers costs $299! Ditto wardrobe at £330 in UK, $1,199 in Australia. Presumably it would be worth stocking up on some furniture here? Does anyone have any advice? I realise that Ikea are shipping alllllll the way to Oz so there may be some disrepancy in price (but not that much!!). Obviously Ikea is cheaper than chips in the UK in terms of furniture - we don't have a lot of money, so would be grateful if someone could advice if they too are the cheaper option in Australia. If so, I'm off to buy some furniture here, me thinks!
  24. Hi any advice from anyone living in the mackay area regarding furniture would be greatly appreciated. Is there any items that stand out as really expensive? Just trying to save a little money lol as the whole process is not cheap  Thanks Lala
  25. Hi everyone. We are moving over in July *Huge Gulps* finally  I am hoping to buy a new dining room table and chairs and also some wall units and a new 3 piece suite to bring over with me. I read somewhere you had to pay tax on new furniture, is this right? If so, how can customs prove its new and we havent had it for a year? Sorry if this is sounding a bit thick, it is a Sunday after a Saturday night :biglaugh: Thanks in advance.
