    WA funds query

Just wondered if anyone can clarify this for me please. We are wanting to apply for WA state sponsorship but I have been told that I will need to provide $25000 for my hubby and $5000 each for myself and kids. The problem is Ive also read on here that others havent stated that specific amount and also do I need to prove what I am taking? We have only just started saving and havent got anything near that amount yet :frown: Any help/advice would be most welcome. Shelly
  2. My Fiance and I are now in a position of getting funds together in order to apply for our Australian residency :jiggy: We have been following the developments last week with regard to the change in DIAMA prioritising system and the cull in numbers of visa applications being granted. We suspect that immigration may become more difficult in forthcoming months so we are really keen to get the ball rolling so we don't miss out. To that affect we have a few concerns regarding the following: Last week's event's seem to suggest that the 176 State Sponsored (permanent) seems to be the golden option now due to the massive backlog of 175 visa applications. Is this true? If we opted for a 176 State Sponsored (and equally if we went with the 175 visa) do we need to prove a minimum funds requirement to the Australian government? Our initial research suggests that Western Australia for example require at least $30,000 for re-settlement. As we are a young couple who has intentionally not stepped onto the property ladder in the hope of building our life in Australia, raising these funds could prove almost impossible. Is there any way around this? If we opted to change to a 176 for the possibility of faster processing we would really like the best possible chance of the permanent state sponsored visa rather than the temporary regional visa. As Alison is a secondary school English teacher, would there be any states (other than NT or ACT) that we would be eligible for State Sponsored 176 permanent visa? Bearing the above in mind, would anyone suggest that the 175 visa or the 176 visa would be the best foot forward in our circumstances? We are particularly attracted to the fact that there might be less margin for failure on the application if only Alison's skills were tested rather than mine also (as mine is an obscure job description to say the least!). I believe Alison would total the required 115 points without my skills being assessed.

    Funds required for 176 Visa

Hi Everyone, After getting positive assessment form Vetasses, my wife and me are in process for applying to 176 visa (From India), however, our agent has told us that we require to show some funds in order to apply. Can anyone pls explain how much and what kind of funds would be considered legitimate under these circumstances. Can the parental properties be shown as funds? waiting in anticipation:unsure:. 5. :huh:Hi All, Happy New Year to one and all and I hope that it will be a good one. I received THE VISA just before Christmas-----------best Chrimbo pressie ever I guess !! Now is the job of selling the bungalow etc etc etc------------I am trying to sort out the best way of transferring the funds over to Oz and minimize any additional costs, does anyone have any experience of this and any advice please ???? I think that I have sorted the pension issue out, have downloaded the necessary form onto the puter as I cannot fill it out until I go over to Oz ( that is the UK state pension ) and have spoken to my occupational pension provider and they can send the pension to Oz for £1 a month ------------------again, if anyone has experience of this and any advice, it would certainly be most welcome. My head is spinning at the moment trying to think everything through and I just hope that I do not make any costly mistakes. A whole new life awaits, I have just got to make sure that the funds are available to facilitate the dream. All helpful comments and/or advice very much welcomed, thanks. Gill
  6. Hi there, My partner and I will be moving to Australia in Jan 2009 and I am trying to sort out an Australian Bank account to transfer some of our savings , as the rate is quite good at the moment (although I we have now missed the boat on the 2.6 rate from few weeks back! :goofy:). I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on the best bank to choose and also the best way to exchange currency i.e. with my current bank or a financial trader - i.e Moneycorp or similar. Any help would be greatly appeciated Thanks

    Initial move funds

Hello all, I am hearing different things from various people about how much money is needed to get to Austrailia and how much is needed to get established once there. Ideally I would have a job sorted out before the move but could handle a few weeks of looking before hand. Do the immigration folks ask for your ways and means for providing for yourself? Do they have a specific limit on how much cash you should have readily available. At the moment I'm thinking the initial $300 for the TRA, $1000 for the VISA application is the starting point, although I'm not sure how much extra for police checks for myself, wife and 2 children. I suppose the rest comes down to living expenses for the intiail settling in period. My wife and I have already agreed that I would travel over beforhand to get things set up, phone, bank accounts, accommodation, employment etc. If anyone has any experience they would like to share then feel free..... Thank you

    Delaying funds transfer

Hi, We sold our house a while ago and are currently waiting to be approved for our PR 175 visa. Unfortunately, the exchange rates aren’t great at the moment, so we're unsure what to do with our funds. I’ve read that there might be tax issues if you transfer funds after your initial 6 months in Oz on a permanent visa. Can anyone tell me what would happen if we leave the majority of our house sale funds in a UK bank account and transfer the money across in say 12 to 18 months time when the exchange rates have improved? We’re hoping we can transfer only what we need to get started and live off our Oz wages until the rates improve. Cheers Sara
  10. Hi everyone, We have just been given our state sponsorship from WA. One of our obligations is to transfer 125K into Western Australia. For us to do this we need to sell our house first. Can we still apply to DIAC for our visa without having the 125k yet? Do they check we have the funds before they issue the visa??? Many Thanks Hannah:chatterbox::realmad:
  11. Hi Is there a time limit on transfer funds after your arrival in Aus? I rang the Aus Tax Office yesterday and they advised me there wasn't but I have a feeling I read something different on this thread. I also remember reading that you are liable for CGT on transfer of funds if the rate has increased since the day you arrived. Can anyone tell me what rate CGT is paid or recommend a good migration tax expert! Feeling really bogged down with all this stuff!:daydreaming:

    Bringing funds and tax

Please can you advise or point me in the right direction. When we move to Aus do we have to pay tax on funds that we bring with us?I know if we bring more than $10000 cash we have to declare it (is it xcash or funds?) I was intending that the proceeds from the house sale will be exchanged and transferred to an Aus bank account (I think) will we have to pay tax in Aus on that ? Any advice welcome.

  19. Hi I submitted all my paper work/certificates last week to my agent. They have told me they are ready to submit to the TRA for assessment. I decided to pay by International funds transfer from my personal bank account yesterday. I have faxed the receipt of this transaction to my agent but he comes back with questions regarding this transaction (was it Telegraphic transfer??). Just wondering if anybody on here has paid this way and if so could you confirm whether I'm on the right track or not. Thanks Andy
