  5. Hi there everyone Me and my partner have been thinking long and hard over the last year about emigrating. We're both getting disillusioned with the way things are going in the UK, we have a 9 month old daughter and want to give her the best life possible. So we've decided were definitely going to do it. I'm a Reception teacher of 14 years so I fit the Pre-school primary teacher category, my other half is a HGV driver. We've spoke to Ian Harrop who says he thinks if we went ahead with the application we'd be successful. There doesn't seem to be many posts on these forums about people applying, getting in and finding work easily. What's the best way to go about it? Do I need state sponsorship? Do I need a job offer? Is it possible to get a job offer before you go? I know most of these questions will get answered by Ian Harrop when we meet him but were waiting for the rule changes to be published before applying. And now we've made the decision to do it all I'm thinking about is going and the process we have to go through to do it. So any success stories would be greatly appreciated. Cal.

Tax Rebate / Tax free rent

Oh my goodness ... I am so confused ! We fly on 27/08/10 ... woohoo ! My head is spinning sorting accommodation, shippers, dog shippers, rental agents ........ and now tax ! Can someone please simplify for my aching head. I have form NRL1 to claim rent recieved tax free and P85 to claim a tax rebate but am wondering: 1. Do I need to have my P45 for both these forms, I work in a school so even though I finish work mid July, I dont officially finish till 31/08/10 so my P45 will come sometime in September by which time I will be sunning in Brisbane ! 2. In section 3 of P85 do I put my rented out home as an accommodation address as it not available to me if its rented out? 3. In section 4 of P85 do I put gross rent ( as obviously I will recieve much less than that after expenses). Thank you  Jen xx

    UK extension leads on offer!

Hi If you're moving back to the UK and fancy some free UK extension leads then we might be able to help. There's one heavy duty cable reel for use in DIY and five multi-plug extension leads. We've also got a few double adaptor plugs. We're in East Perth. We'd rather give them to someone who could use them than send them to landfill so if you are interested ring Scott on 0468 818 153. If have any Aussie ones that you are looking to get rid of prior to your move back that we could swap them for, that would be greatly appreciated, but essentially we just want to give these to a good home! Cheers! Down under, out west

  10. Dear forum in my garage there is a washing machine, dryer and fridge that we brought back from NZ a couple of years ago during a move. We don't need them and they would like to go back and live in NZ. If you are filling a container for NZ why not take them with you and save yourself some money? All good condition. All white - small washing machine - small dryer - small white fridge/freezer. Must be able to pick up from York and take 3 items. Close the deal. Free to a good home.

  12. Can anyone recommend good suburbs north of the river that are "white trash" / chav free? I'm talking about the sovvy wearing, 3 Lions t-shirt brigade with their MAN U car registrations that like to sit out in their front gardens (or in the garage with the door open) swigging from their tinnies. :arghh: Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their own life style choices (even though they're obviously not aware of FIFO) but I don't want to make an expensive mistake and buy property in this sort of neighbourhood. Call me a snob....

  14. No I am not talking about Australia I am talking about the UK. I went to DD academic review today at school, she is taking her GCSE's in June so its the last catch up before then. All was going well until the teacher gave me a form with extra tuition classes for GCSE students during the Easter Holidays, the school will open for them and they will get space to revise and help with revision tools. Well I thought that is great, until I am told, you will have to pay £10 per day...........what????? This and the fact that despite being told about our plans to emigrate a number of times she new nothing about it and put on my daughters notes "Flighing" to Australia. Now we all make mistakes but the woman knew she had spelt it wrong but couldnt work out how to spell it  How much do you reckon she gets paid a year??
  15. Since falling in love with my wonderful aussie husband, we have been on a roller coaster that has lasted almost 6 years. The last eight months have been spent stressing about a spouse visa which I am finally just about ready to put my papers in for( in London)! I have a CXR and medical this Thursday which has caused no end of worrying because I have smoked since I was 17 and stressing about this visa has only caused me to smoke more. Today I have given up, gone running and eaten the entire contents of the fridge in a bid not to smoke! So if my visa is granted I will be one very porky English wife arriving in Melbourne but at least I will be smoke free! Then it hit me after reading so many other people's posts and just how stressed out we all are about these visa's, is it worth worrying so much it causes me to feel ill? Yes I want to be with my husband but I am not going to stress anymore, if they don't grant me a visa.... it's not the end of the world as I used to think it would be. Yes it would be terrible but now we are out of the dark winter months, England is not that bad a place to live. It could be worse! I love my job, I look after older people with dementia and I love to chew the fat about the good old days when England was great! And if my husband (who qualifies for an Irish passport) really couldn't stand living here, well that's life. NO WORRIES, that's what I say!!!! (maybe being smoke free has really got to me!). Oh and I failed the IELTS and I don't care either, I know I speak English proper good rite! So to all of you from my heart ... Don't worry, be happy. Maybe our destiny is pre determined though the thought of another winter in England does chill me to the bone! Love to all wherever you are xxx

  24. Hi all, A guy at my work has a kitten that needs a kind and caring home. My colleague's son found it dumped behind his school and she's so tiny and small and needs a home. Unfortunately they can't keep her themselves so I'm just putting this out there to see if anyone is interested in saving this kitten from the cat shelter, where although they are kind to animals, over 80% of cats who are abandoned end up being euthanaised. She is grey and white with a stripe down her nose and she needs someone to love her!!! Poor little thing. MY OH and I are curently building a house and so are moving between house sitting and back and forth to mum and dads place, so we just can't take her ourselves... so I thought I'd ask if there were any PIO'ers or their friends and family who were interested? Cat loving people only need apply! :wubclub: Please PM me if you would like the contact details of my colleague.
