    General Finance Issues

Hi All, Am sure these topics will be covered elsewhere (numerous times) but thought I'd just open a new thread and hopefully someone will be able to pass on advice. Questions; 1. For those people who have done it, what is your preferred bank in Oz? (We are moving to Perth). 2. Is there any way round the fact that the Xchange rate is pants at the moment? I think it's about 2.14 on the Xchange sites although I expect you get a lot less when actually transferring. Is there any way to maximise what we get? Thanks in advance. Garry

  4. Hi Everyone! I'm new to this site and am applying for the prospective marriage visa. I think I have everything organised, have had the medical/police check/obtained stat decs/letter from the celebrant etc. My only question is regarding the financial stability of my partner. He is an Oz citizen but has been living over here for 14 years. We plan to stay with his family when we go but how can we prove he can financially support me if he doesn’t have job over there yet? He has a decent paid job here and we have his payslips to prove this. I think we will have about £5000 to take with us, I hope that is enough! Also is debt in this country i.e credit cards/loans looked into when we apply? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Nina

    Finance Jobs

I'm considering going for a job in Finance or Accountants after leaving school, but I was wondering what sort of qualifications you would need and how much money can be earned. I'm mainly looking at the Brisbane area but if anyone knows anything about the other areas of Australia I'd be most grateful!
  6. Hi Guys Your ever helpfull advice needed, I will try not to bore you all, but many months ago we set up an account with Westpak, we have had nothing but problems with the account (I guess unlucky) the other day we recieved a statment now advising us the account is closed (not the answer we wanted), in less than 11 weeks we will be flying our way over to Brisbane with no idea what to do with our finances, we have no account now, and will have the money from the sale of the house to trasnfer, not only that we don't really understand the ways & means of HIFX etc, we went to expo last year, and some nice people tried to explain, but it was all a blur, and to be fair me and money exchange really don't mix (can you believe I do payroll and transfers as a job - me neither). Can anyone please shed some light on the process, who is best for bank account, should I try to sort this with Westpak, and what do HIFX do, will we be charged and if not how do they make there money, my father in law says don't go near them !!!! Help From a very confused Mel & Dave :arghh:

    trouble getting finance

Hi there all! My husband and i have been in Brisbane a week now. We have managed to rent a house (which was a mission in itself, there are no rentals about are there?!) We are basically starting again with all our furniture and stuff, rather than ship out the old stuff. Our question to you is: is anyone else having trouble getting finance? We have been interviewing for jobs but dont have anything as yet and we have found that when we try and get finance for a car or furniture we are being declined. Apparently its because we are not in employment yet and do not know anyone here as a referee. But we have to start somewhere! Any solutions or advice welcome!!!
  8. Bit of a strange one this, but just wondering if the thought had occurred to anyone else. With interest rates in Australia being as they are, my husband suggested that we might be able to raise money in the UK to cover the small mortgage we will need in Oz, either through a homeowner loan (now there are all sorts of implications such as selling this house that such a loan would be secured on etc etc...) or even if there are any companies in the UK that do this sort of mortgage. My guess is that you'd have to be a UK resident still to get a foreign mortgage via a UK company. Just wondered if anyone has any thoughts?
