  1. :confused:PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone help us we are so confused. My OH is an electrician and we are awaiting our Vettasses skills test. What I am wondering is why they are putting him through this skills test because he will not be able to work as an unsupervised electrician when he gets to Oz so why all this testing before we go? I thought the whole point of Vettasses is to ascertain whether he has the skills and if he passes then this means he has so why can he not then work as an electrician in Oz. Or I am getting this all wrong. We are hoping to head to Queensland but this is playing heavily on my mind. Does it mean that when my OH initially gets to Oz he will not be able to apply for any electrical jobs or does it mean he can work as a sparky but only as a supervised one. What training will he need to do when he gets to Queensland PLEASE SOMEONE OUT THERE OR EVEN STILL HERE HELP. :goofy:
  2. Hi, First post so new to all this. Just wondering if there are any electricians or hairdressers/beauty therapists in the process of going out to Oz. As the main applicant, I've just finished filling in the electrical Vetassess forms, and getting references and all that sort of stuff. Next stop - practical exam........hopefully. My intention is to work in the offshore industry if possible. I work in the UK offshore industry from Aberdeen, so something similar would be great for us. Tracy is a hairdresser and beauty therapist. Does anybody know what the market is like for the hair and beauty industry in Australia? If any sparks or hairdressers out there are at a similar stage, we would love to hear from you. Stephen, Tracy, Chloe and Thomas

    Electricians work

Hi all sparks, just doing my paper assessment for Vetassess, What fun! Can anyone already made it out to Oz tell me realistically what could possibly earn as take home wage?? Is it possible to earn say equivalent of £500 to £600 take home per week. Am looking at living in suburbs of Brisbane, is there plenty of opportunities for work as a Electrician here?? Any advice would be great. Cheers Neil
  6. My hb is doing the Ocober (27th-31st) vetassess in London and I was just wondering if anyone else on here was?
  7. Hi everyone! New to the forum so still finding my way around. Also if anyone can offer further information on the practical assessment for electricians that to would be great. I am a qualified electrician and we are hoping to secure a 176 visa for Queensland. 8. Hi there we have finally decided to rent the house and hopefull head to the sunshine coast mid Jan - early Feb '09. Hubby is now worried about getting a job on the Sunshine Coast. He is a very good electrician here and lots of regular customers. He has heard lots of negative stories lately regarding having to study for two years in Aus, and is now wondering if he will get enough of a salary to be able to afford a family home to rent. Can anyone in the trades there give some advise as to how trades are doing and how easy/hard it is to get a job? Or better still give him a job!! We have to be realistic about these things as we cant have a life there without the work. Any trades that could advise, we would be really really grateful. Bernie
  9. Hi everyone! we are hoping to move to Adelaide sometime next year. I'm an australian citizan so my husband to be will be moving across on a de facto visa rather than an skills visa. He's a fully qualified electrician. After speaking to numerous different migration agents and South Australian officials we've been told there is no point him doing a vetasses course as he doesnt need it for visa purporses --- (actually we went to Aintree migration event a couple of weeks ago, spoke to six + different peeps who said not to do vetassess THEN we spoke to one bloke who said we HAD to do vetassess - how confusing! then as we glanced at outside of his stall we realised he basically worked for vetassess- so no wonder he said to do it !!) --- they said that in Adelaide there is a course that you are able to do over a number of weeks to become recognised as fully qualified in OZ (and a lot of migration/employers send their employees to Adelaide from other STATES to do this course - as saves doing it at night school) We were given the name of this college as PEER but cant find any website for it!?! can anyone help? or have we been given the wrong name?!? Thanks so much sorry for long post! x

  13. Hi everyone! thanks for your help with my last 'electricians help needed please!' i have another question which has been raised by the above thread... myself, partner, kids are now hopefully planning to go out on a de facto visa. i'm an australian citizen so we wont be relying on my partner having to prove his electrical experience for him to get in..... BUT we do need him to be able to work out there otherwise we wont be going as we'll have no money to live on!!! he's a qualified electrician this June, but been working as electricians mate last four years. we know he only need two plus years experience if he was applying for a visa on his own back... my question is, will he be able to work as an electrician in oz? is he meant to go through VETASSESS or this ARTC thing? do you have to do both? is one better than the other? and what is this ARTC requirement, never heard it mentioned before! do you have to go through VETASSESS to get your trade/experience/knowledge recognised and then apply to ARTC? totally confused!:err: -i know he can to VETASSES even though only qualifys next month, have already spoken to them

    ARTC Question Electricians

Hi can anybody tell me whether you still have to apply for an ARTC if you have passed Vetassess, my OH is hopefully doing the practical in April. Any help would be great. Thanks
  21. Bones in crazy scheme shocker! I'm looking into the possibility of going on one of those crash courses to get qualified as an Electrician. Such as this.... Electrical courses, electrician courses This will give me some paper quals and then I could tackle the practical assessment. But how hard would it be for a freshly ''qualified'' (and I use the term loosely!) bod to pass it? This is a long winded and expensive option but could possibly work, if I get the visa I can then get over there and apply for a job in Sales. Thoughts? Bones

    Auto Electricians??

Hi all, me and the o/h are looking to move to Australia in around 2009 if not sooner. We're after information which can help us in the right direction before using any migration services. I've taken the TEST, scored 140 points and then comes the paying out part to get to the next process.... trouble is i don't know if my experience is enough, and if its not then theres no point us paying for services we are'nt yet in a position to gain from. I'm 28, an Auto Electrician and have been in the trade for 5 years, i have my NVQ level 2 and i'm currently working towards the end of my NVQ level 3 with the Institute of the Motoring Industry (IMI) to gain recognised qualifications. I've browsed the net and found the following info:- Skill Level This occupation requires you to have completed formal qualifications achieved through study, training or work experience and is referred to as the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). You need to have attained AQF Certificate III or higher qualification. Registration or licensing may be required. For further information on the Australian Qualifications Framework see the AQF website. (AQF level 3 appears to be a simiular programme/course as the NVQ level 3) Skilled occupations info Points awarded for General Skilled Migration purposes are shown in the table below. The table also shows if this occupation is on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL), part of the Employer Nomination Scheme and on the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL). PointsSOLENSOLMODL60YesYesYes Looking above, what would you suggest be our next step - who would be best to contact/talk to? I don't think that the 5 years is enough but can't be sure. Auto Electricians may need the same work experience has mains electricians (7), i've not got a clue and i've heard this is all set to change. Ideally we'd like to get things going sooner than later, so any info, contacts, recommendations would be greatly appreciated . Thanks all
