Hello poms, I've started this thread in order to share some usefull information about where to look for the freight when you have landed in Melbourne. If anyone has an experience please put it down here, I think It would have a huge value for anyone looking where to start. I shortly describe mine situation-we have just shiped our Personal effects through DHL(by air), but they declined to do a customs procedures. They just said that they deliver a freight to Tullamarine airport and then you are on your own. Oh, and they said that we must collect our freight from Quantas terminal... I thought it would be from DHL terminal. But here comes the paperwork, and I have no any Idea where to start and how to clear goods . Some tips would be very appreciated. Where to go, what to bring, how much time does all processing takes. Please note that it is an Air Freight. Cheers, Irmaal:wink:

Hi Everyone, I've been doing my research on shipping companies as we need to ship a few boxes (clothes, shoes and a few sentimental bits), aka excess baggage, out to Adelaide. Every company I have come across use cardboard boxes to ship stuff out in. We have a few empty plastic storage boxes we are thinking of using as they will come in handy once we arrive in Australia. Has anyone used these for shipping before? If so, how'd it go? Would you recommend using them? Would they have a higher chance of breaking or what? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Unaccompanied personal effects form - wooden furniture
dorsetemma posted a topic in Shipping and Removals
Hi everyone Our furniture is due to arrive into port shortly and I need to fill out the unaccompanied personal effects form for AQIS. Most of it is straight forward enough as we don't have anything to declare except for some wooden furniture. Its mainly IKEA flat pack stuff, ie painted and varnished wood, (no wicker or antique wooden items) and so shouldn't be a problem. I just wondered if, by listing all of these wooden items though, it means that AQIS will go through all of your stuff with a fine toothcomb and, if so, how this effects clearance timings? I know that with airport customs, as long as you declare any questionable items, they are fine - one quick question and away you go. I don't know if port customs are the same or if its a case of any excuse for them to put a hold on your stuff. We really need our things urgently now though so any reassurance you can give would be much appreciated. Many thanks -
Hi all, I am being sponsored by the company I work for to stay for 2 years on a 457 visa. I am currently on a working holiday visa. My boss is going to submit the forms to immigration next Friday. I just wondered if anyone knew of any companies that are good when you dont have too much to ship? I only have my 42"lcd tv, smaller tv, ps3, wii, surround sound system, tv stand, and maybe a suitcase of clothes to send. Is it worth me getting that sent now or should I wait unitl it is all confirmed by immigration?? Thanks

Hi there Has anyone used any other insurance companies to insure your goods in transit rather than the insurance that the shippers offer you? If so can anyone recommend any? Debbie :notworthy:

Hi everyone Our situation is not straightforward, and we would appreciate any advice. I applied for a (non CSL) 475 SS visa earlier this year, and in line with advice from our agent, I tried to add my partner to the visa application at the Med/Police check stage (to give us time to get the full 12 months defacto info required). DIAC said this was not possible and that we would have to wait till my visa was granted then lodge a new 475 application (with further visa fee!) as a subsequent entrant. My SS 475 visa was granted in July, and we immediately lodged my partners 475 subsequent entrant visa. We were advised by agent and DIAC that my partners application is exempt from the usual occupation criteria, and all that is being assessed is the meds, police checks and defacto evidence, which is all in place. We were literally waiting for the phone to ring to let us know it has been approved. If my partners visa is affected by the new processing times, effectively DIAC will be invalidating my visa as I will not be able to meet the criteria of my granted visa by way of entry date and to live for 2 years and work for 12 months in the regional area. Now, with the priority processing changes, we are unsure if this will affect my partners application, and our future. We have contacted our agent who have advised they have emailed DIAC for clarification, but it could be some time before we get any response. Naturally, we are beside ourselves with worry. Thanks in advance for any replies. KC
