    Perth - dogs

Hi there I am a Newby to this site - we have just sent off for our skills to be assessed - so it is all starting to become real to us. We were just wondering if anyone has / will be moving to Perth with their pets? We have 2 dogs and will bring them with us all being well and just wanted some piece of mind with regards to quarenteen etc. I love this site - making me more exited to get out there - can't wait to leave all this behind :-)

    Taking our Dogs with us....

Hi Everyone, We've finally got a job offer, starting in October this year and we've only got the small matter of visa's to finish and selling our house (!!!) We're after any help or advice out there with regard to migrating our dogs with us. They're already pet passported with chips (for movement within the EU) and all that but we're a bit overwhelmed with all the different companies with different requirements. I'd be grateful to learn of other members experiences in taking their pets with them. We've got 2 mix breed dogs and we're moving to Geelong, Victoria. If anyone can point us in the right direction of good, competitively priced agents they've used and also is it possible to do the process on your own without an agent and if so where on earth did you start???? The quotes we've had so far range between £1,800 and £3,000 per dog plus quarantine fee's. Is this what you'd expect to pay? Thanks everyone!
  3. Can any of you wise people tell me please... I have 3 dogs that are due for their yearly booster jab at the end of the month (we are still in the UK by the way!). We are hoping to be in Australia in approx 9-10 months (Sunshine Coast! yay!) What do I need to bear in mind re. the Lepto thingy?! Sorry to sound vague....I'm not sure I've fully understood the implications of them testing positive before we fly out to Oz :nah: Also....not saying that we would be coming back to the UK....but....is there anything I have to bear in mind re. time my dogs would have to spend in quarantine if we ever did have to come back from Oz to the UK? I'm sure I've read somewhere that if you keep upto date with their rabies jabs in australia...that'd avoid your dogs having to spend 6 months in quarantine? Or am I getting things confused?:goofy:....wouldn't be the 1st time! lol. Hope someone can help. Many thanks in advance Jenny

    Dogs

I would like to know more about taking dogs to OZ,such as which was a good company to take like Golden Arrow or Airpets? and were they taken care of when they arrived at their chosen destination? I am really concerned as my dog is only going to be 18mths old hopefully when we get our visa! as he is so clingy as he is a proper baby!! we left him for one night last week and you should have seen him the day after!!! I know some of you think i`m mad but if you`ve got dog lovers out there you will know just how much they mean to you, they are part of your family!

  9. Hi all, Please dont laugh at what i am just about to type:embarrassed: I have 2 german shepherds , 1 3 1/2 yr old girl (white) and a 17 mth old boy(gold sable), now we are in the process of applying for a 457 visa, we have the job offer and now have an imm agent and we are in the process of getting all the paperwork, doc etc that the company etc require, We are awaiting our new passports before we can proceed any further as you need passport numbers for police checks etc, and also awaiting ref from hubbies previous employer's, now we had decided thast we could not afford to bring our 2 lovely dogs as it would have cost us £7000 to take them over , and this would have seriously eaten into our equity we are hoping to make on our property,(its been on the market 2 weeks), as we have to pay for 4 children to go to school as the job offer is in NSW, so that will cost us about $20000 for the 4 of them. unless we can discuss the company paying some or part of this for us which i understand they may do if we ask, i was told to ask by someone else . Right now our girl dog has come into season just over a week and a half ago and our young man dog, had been showing interest in her, when he tried to do the dirty deed we stopped him imediately, and the time before she was in season he did all the actions but no bullseye, so we thought this time would be the same, Well on monday he got bullseye and now i am panicking, dont get me wrong , i know all about breeding and puppies as i have dont this before 10 yrs ago, we did have the 2 and intended to breed them ,but then made the decision to migrate , so anyways back to the story, now the girl is pregnant for 9 weeks ok and then you can find homes for the puppies at between 6 and 8 weeks, now there is no way i am going to take my girl down to the vets to have the litter culled etc, but the bottom line question really is can i prolong the visa slightly by taking a little time to send the paperwork of etc i have told the time scale is anything from 8-12 for the visa to be done, we still havent sold our house also so this would help a little time wise also, any suggestions anyone michell
  10. Hello Perth People, I thought that perhaps we should have a change from the usual type of meet i.e. sitting around in a park/beach - I believe the greyhounds have a good family night (not sure which night or how regular they are) - Any other suggestions for something different? Ali

    Dogs on beaches

Hi everyone. We're on the edge of me getting a job offer in Sydney. I'm trying to get everything planned out. Looking at the threads on here about dog travel, i didn't realise it was so expensive!!!! To the point though, can you take dogs on beaches in Oz? We'll probably be living in Manly, Sydney. Thanks all.

  14. Hi all, At last my 2 dogs are finally on their way here, they left heathrow at 7.30am this morning our time (8.30pm uk time) I am mixed in feelings today, i cannot stop thinking of them stuck in their cargo carriers on the plane in the dark probably scared stiff about what is happening to them. I feel so guilty about what i am putting them through. Also a post on the poms in oz web site keeps playing on my mind ( someones dog died in quarantine not so long ago in sydney) I havent seen them since 14th December when we left them with my parents to look after until they had been sorted and had a spot in the quarantine station in spotswood. Will they know who i am?? will they hate me for doing this to them?? Why do i feel so cruel in bringing them here? Has anyone else that has brought over dogs felt like this? I can't wait to get a phone call tomorrow morning to say they have arrived and are fit and well and i am desperate to check for my self that they are ok and see them in the quarantine centre in spotswood. What is the quarantine station like?? is it a good idea to visit them? Gail

    Dogs, cars and stuff

:unsure:Helloo, It is very early days for us I know but I have to get things straight in my head and organised! Has anyone taken a dog with them? How did it cope with the journey? Also what are we able to export over there (I heard there was a problem with wooden items). Are there any reccommendations of things to take? I'd quite happily bring just myself, my dog and a suitcase - oh, husband as well of course! Said husband needs to know about exporting a restoration project (he won't leave without it!) It is an E Type and he was wondering about spares etc. I think that's all for now! Lin
  16. Hey guys, can anyone shed some light on this for me please. We (me and my OH) are hoping to relocate to the Caloundra (Sunshine Coast) area when we ge our visa, however, our agent has warned us that this area is restricted to just 2 dogs per household, unless you have some many m2 of land/garden. We have 3 dogs, and there is no way on earth I could leave any of them behind in the UK!! Does anyone know if there is tru for the Sunshine coast area and if there is anyway around this? Or does anyone know of nice suburbs to live where 3 dogs is fine? We are worried we won't be able to afford a property wih lots of land when we get there! I can see putting restrictions on dogs per household is a good idea in theory, but having 3 cavalier king charles spaniels (like ours) is not the same as having 3 great big dogs is it? My 3 put together wouldn't make 1 full grown german shepherd or rotweiller! ha ha. Look forward to hearing your words of wisdome guys. Many thanks in advance Jenny
  17. Hi all, Looking for advice really, My dogs are flying over on 3rd March. They have been living with my parents since we left on 16th December. I can't wait for them to arrive but when i was talking with my husband last night he seems to think that i should not visit them and wait until we are taking them home to go and see them. His point is that it will upset me and upset them more if i went to see them only to leave them again an hour later. He is not going to see them and says he will see them when he can bring them home with us. What did other people do? and what do you think? I really miss them and can't wait to see them but i totally understand where he is coming from and so i am totally split in what i want to do or what to do for the best? Gail

    Dogs mix-up

Took dogs to have blood tests today ready for their departure to Sydney. What a performance.....2 big mad dogs, one in season, one tiny consultation room, me, a nurse, and a vet with a needle! And worse was to come..... Found out that the dogs micro-chip numbers are for the wrong dog, ie Jasper has Poppys number and Poppy has Jaspers. This is gonna cause big probs according to the shippers as the import licenses have been issued for the wrong dog. If you catch my drift..... Got to take one off them back tomorrow and make 100% sure what number goes to what dog and then we'll have to apply for new licenses (more money??). To top it off, the vet that did the micro chipping was an aussie and Minlady came with me to get them done, we spent ages discussing Oz with him so its no wander he made a mistake when writing the dogs names on the micro-chip labels, obviously his mind wasn't on the job! Lets at least hope they dont fail the blood tests, now that will be a problem. Sam xx

    The Dogs Bol**cks

Can anyone help me with a problem about my dogs balls. Me and my partner will be flying out to Perth the end of this month the dog (male Labrador 3) fly’s out tomorrow. The only problem is that we will all be staying with my brother who has a bitch golden retriever 8 months old, and he want us to get out dog castrated just in case she gets pregnant, but I don’t want to put my dog through that as he would have been through enough on his trip out there. My brother seems to think that she could get pregnant at anytime even when she is not in season and I have heard different, that a bitch only comes into season 2 times a year and that she can only get pregnant on the second week of her being on heat. can anyone tell us what their thoughts are on the matter, and give us any advice or if anyone has had experience in mixing male and female dogs together and how you would avoid the unfortunate happening. as my brother is driving me mad :arghh:

    Dangerous Dogs Act In Oz

Sorry but I didn't know what category to put this query under. But here goes we had a very traumatic experince whilst out walking with our dogs over the fields at the back of our home this morning. We were walking with our three cavalier king charles spaniels when a weimarner (not sure of the spelling) came bolting from nowhere and attacked my beloved Alfie and pinned him down there was a lot of yelping but fortunately the dog had a muzzle on it so wasn't able to do any physical damage apart from traumatising the dogs and myself. The owner was a women and lacked the physical capability to pull the dog off Alfie and my husband had to yank the dog by the collar to get him off. She also had another dog with her which she had no obvious control over. She said sorry and added that Alfie would not come to any harm because her dog was wearing a muzzle. Thank god he was but that isn't the principle he shouldn't have been off a lead if she is not able to control him. What if Alfie had been a small child, I've been in shock most of the day. Sorry to go on, but most people on PIO know from my posts that my dogs are my life. Can anyone tell me what the laws are regarding dangerous dogs in OZ, it seems here that people can do what they like. Monty:cry:

    documentation for dogs

Please can anyone help me with advice regarding all the quarantine export documentation for my dogs. I've made a list so here goes: 1. Import permit for Australia have already faxed this off. 2. vaccination certificates and microchip certificates 3. Export health certificate (this is the one I'm struggling to get hold of, does this get sent to the vet for them to fill in or do I have to request and take to the vets? thanks Monty
