    10 foot shared container cost?

Hello Has anyone got any idea how much a 10 foot shared container costs from the UK to oz? We used Wridgeways to come back to the UK from OZ and it cost about $3,500 for a 10 foot shared container. I haven't contacted any of the removalist companies yet, but was wondering if anyone can give me a heads up on how much it could potentially cost? many thanks! Laulau
  3. Hi All, Been a while since last post as had to put things on hold for a while. Now ready to re-start the process but we have since got two dogs and need to add them to the costs but have no idea where to start? Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much it will cost in total and a breakdown of those costs. I am clear on what jabs need to be done here....I am confused when it comes to things like flights / import permit / quarantine side and anything else I have missed? Thank you in advance Danielle and MJ (oh and the two pooches in question Errol and Tallulah!)
  4. I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times before, but does anyone have or know a site which can help you know how much you'll need to move to Oz? I know that I need to consider visa application costs, flights, removals etc. but could do with a comprehensive list. Thanks

    Cost of living in Queensland

Hi Just wondering I have been watchin "Wanted Down Under" show and was very shocked on how much the cost of living was. Is it me or did anyone else seem shocked to. Anyone who lives on or around pacific pines, Gold Coast can you give me an estimate on how much things actually are at the moment. I'll list general things that would be of use to me. Air Conditioning bills per month Car tax and insurance Cars new & second hand (Family of 4) Us and two teenage boys Equivilant to our council tax TV Licience Sky (Or equivilant) Mobile Phone monthly (Variation) Milk Bread Fish, meat (OK weekley food shop for a family of 4) Approx Water Rates (if you have any) I know I might be going on a bit, but could do with a reality check on living expenses. That programme makes it look more expensive over here! Any info would be greatly appreciated Thankx Jan & Dave:arghh:

How much will this all cost???

Hi, We're at the very begining of our visa journey and I was hoping aomeone could give me idea how much this all will cost? I've been looking and it'll cost Husband $2100 just for his Vettass test, and then I was looking at the different visa's as advised, and the employer sponsered one is $2100 would the employer pay that? And if it was just a WA state sponsorship visa, medicals and police checks? Can anyone who is nearing the end of their visa journey advise on how much they think it has all cost them? Thanks Bebe Bebe 34, John 41, Nia 2 in Glasgow

    Cost of living - QLD

Can anyone already living in QLD supply a 'cost of living thread'? Just basic utility bills/digital tv etc and maybe average family weekly food shop or anything you think is useful to know? I know this has been done before but it was in 2007 so a fresh list would be useful. Thanks

    Cost of medicals

Hi I bet this has been asked tons of times before but ............ we are near the stage of getting our medicals done. Just rang our nearest panel doctors (Middlesbrough) and been quoted £671 for 2 adults, 2 children (both under 11) and that includes x-rays, medical and the courier fees to Oz. Is this reasonable??? Many thanks Kathryn

It's going to cost how much?

Advice needed PIO friends, We're off to Canberra in February to embark on our new adventure. Now in the process of getting quotes from shipping companies. So far we've been given 2 eye watering quotes from well known companies to pack up all our belongings, bearing in mind we live in a 'bijou' 2 bed flat, and ship them to Canberra. In fact the last shipping company seemed a tad confused when I said that their quote was a little on the pricey side. As we don't have much to ship (not taking large items like fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, etc.) we'll be sharing a container, yet the quotes coming in have been more than what our entire visa process cost! Waiting for a couple more quotes. In the meantime we're now facing the following dilemmas Do we sell everything and start again from scratch? Bite the bullet and go with a considerable amount less in savings? To save on storage costs in the UK do we ship everything over immediately & hope for the best? Anyone know if shipping companies are open to negotiation? Surely in the current economic climate they too are feeling the pinch! HELP, any advice is greatly appreciated

  12. Hi folks... I hope someone can help me please. I've been trying to find the average salary for Perth (most data on the web seems outdated). As a single salary, how does $60k fair (+super etc). Is this a salary that would afford a good standard of living? We dont have kiddies to worry about so its just the two of us. We would be looking at a 4 x 2 home, one car etc. We're pretty much homebirds so a pool would be nice as we're not sea swimmers! I'm wondering how the tax works (bearing in mind I would get LAFHA) and as such I am trying to establish what our disposable income would be after tax, a small car, food, bills, insurances etc. From what I have seen on SEEK, roles in my field and at my level are usually advertised at c$75k-$90k+ but I'm not sure how 'true' these figures are - whether they are just a hook to get you to apply. Based on the UK a $60k AUD salary (when converted to £) is a little low for my field. Are the salaries in Perth lower than elsewhere? This would be a single salary... my hubbie would be hoping to secure work once we get there. His salary should be circa $40k-50kpa (flat salary) but we have no idea how long it would take for him to find work. We just dont want to uproot our lives and be worse off...! Of course we also need to balance quality of life against what we earn... eg. if we were on less than UK but had a good standard of living then all well and good. Any help you can offer would be much appreciated. Many thanks
  13. hi everyone. we are currently waiting for our result from our ss application.we will apply for 176 visa as soon as ss comes thru.as everyone knows this will take 3 years so we are planning to look into ENS121 visa.after we apply for 176,if we find an employer willing to sponsor us how much will it cost to change from 176 to 121.? is this a good approach or should we not bother with the 176 and concentrate on the 121.?
  14. We are a young couple who are planning to migrate to Australia within the next year or so. We are going for an Independent Skilled Worker visa. We have no dependents or pets and will not be shipping anything out. The visa itself costs in the region of £1500, and I believe the medicals cost approximately £150 (though I may have imagined that figure). But are there any other hidden costs we need to consider? We would be very grateful for some advice. Thanks in advance!:wubclub:

    cost of living

hi if anyone could provide me with information on the following, we have found this info for perth but if you could let me know what it would be like for melbourne that would be great Mortgage = $23,328 * Council Rates (City of Joondalup) = $1408 Water Rates = $840 Water Usage Charge = $250 Building Insurance ($325,000 cover) = $550 Contents Insurance ($89,000 cover) = $360 Electricity = $1,200 Gas = $575 Phone = $1450 ^ Broadband internet = $480 Total of these housing costs: $30,441 per year = $2,536 per month = $585 per week. * Mortgage - $300,000 (about the Australian average) at 6.06% variable interest rate on a 25 year repayment basis, repayments are $1944 per month, or $448 per week. Link to a Mortgage Calculator at MoneyManager. ^ Phone - comprises a landline service and locals calls with Telstra, calls to Mobile and international with iiNet, our broadband internet provider. We also all have mobiles, which are not included in this. We could almost certainly rationalise all this and save money. Thanks Lorna

Cost of Epilepsy meds and medicals

Hi, Myself and my partner both have Epilepsy ( no we didin't meet in a support group:) And we are just starting the visa application process now, I have spoken to a migration agent here in Dublin (she is on the Aus gov registration) and she has advised us to go for medicals before submitting any paper work. Has anyone come up against any issues with medicals? My partner is seizure free for 5years and I am for 3years. We are both on long term medication and both have been dischardged from our Neuroligsts care as they are happy with our progress. Finally how much approx does it cost per mth/per year for medication in Oz and do you have to pay for it all yourself? Thanks Caroline
  23. We’re just mapping out our financial position and would appreciate a few people posting up a rough breakdown of what it cost you to physically get to Oz once all the paperwork was completed. I’m thinking flights/shipping belongings/shipping pets (2 cats)/deposits on rental accommodation/hotels/ and anything else that hits you either just before you go or in the first month once you get there (ie. until you first get paid – presuming you’ve got a job to go to). We’ll be doing a more detailed investigation ourselves of course nearer the time, but a few ballpark figures would be very useful, as would any flags of unexpected expenses that you came across…… Ta muchly, Rover

    OMG the cost of flights!

Hi Everyone, My family and I want to visit Perth in April 2009 for 3 weeks before we make the final dicision to emigrate. I was checking prices for 3 weeks in April(during easter hols) it's my wife, me and two boys who will be 5 and 8 at the time of flying. I could not get anything cheaper than 3K with emirates ailines, some went to 4.5K ouch!. would you say this is the norm or am i going about it the wrong way. Ive done my searching on the net, I guess that would be the cheapest way or has someone phoned up a certain travel agent and got cheaper. I would prefere 2.5K if I can, or am I just being tight. :spinny:
