  1. I've read on Immi that you need to be in Australia for when your citizenship is approved. What about if you have a holiday abroad booked? I know not likely but if the process takes a long time I don't want to mess it up with a holiday. Thanks in advance.
  2. Thought I started a new thread for the citizenship application submitted in 2020. Applied Citizenship 25/03/2020 (myself and dependent child) Current citizenship New Zealand Invitation Awaiting Test Date Awaiting Approval Awaiting Ceremony Awaiting Cheers and god speed.
  3. I have searched this forum with a fine tooth comb but can't find anything........... Does anyone know how long immigration normally take to approve your application once you return to Australia if been away offshore??
  4. We got our PR in 2012 and visited Australia in the same year to validate our visa. We then went back to US and stayed there for 4 years before returning back in 2017. We are now eligible to apply for citizenship. We understand that we need to apply for FBI clearance (USA) and Police Clearance from our country of birth but just wanted to understand the timing of the same. Does it have to be submitted along with the application or will it be requested later? I called the helpline and they said not request and only do it when requested. The FBI clearance takes 4-8 weeks to get done and the process is elaborate. I would like to submit the application and apply for the clearances in parallel. Is that possible? Any help will be appreciated.
  5. Will be asked later on, for citizenship request, why we quit before 2 years of moral commitment , would it be a problem later ? thanks

Moving back to UK after living in Aus, (NEED HELP)

Hi all, new to the forum. So i feel as if i have a relatively unique situation. I was born in Nottingham, England, 5/8/1997. My parents moved to Australia in 2002. We have lived here since. However my partner and I with our young daughter 1 year 8 months have made the decision to move back to England. I am now an Australian citizen, my partner is a New Zealand citizen and our daughter an Australian citizen. My partners mum was born in Birmingham as well just for a little historical context so she has ties to the country also. The questions I then have are as follows: Am I eligible to obtain a British passport and move back home or do i need to obtain a visa? What visa will my partner need to obtain? (we arent married) Who is the best person/company/government office to contact in order to start the process of making the right moves to get home. Maybe a stab in the dark also but is there any predicted change to this if Brexit passes? Thank you to anyone who responds, my head is spinning trying to get around all this and i could really do with some pointers!!!!
  7. Hi All, One of the Australian citizenship (by conferral) eligibility requirement is "living in Australia on a valid visa for the past 4 years" If I wanted to apply for Australian citizenship in Jan 2023 - does my 4-year count start on Mar 2018 OR only on Jan 2021 because I have a gap in holding a valid visa? Basically am I eligible to apply for citizenship in Jan 2023 assuming I meet all other non-residence requirements? Mar 2018 - Mar 2020 on 457/TSS visa Apr 2020 - Dec 2020 on no visa (left Australia after applying for SC190 visa) Jan 2021 - Dec 2022 on PR Thanks!
  8. I was certain I’d find the answer to this by searching previous posts, but haven’t had any luck. I’ll ask the question quite generally so maybe others can find the answer more easily, then I’ll give specific context if it’s unclear. My question is; When a person with a permanent residency finally gets citizenship (therefore now having dual citizenship for UK & Australia). Is the PR on the existing UK passport now cancelled? Does that person now need an Australian passport to be able to leave/enter Australia? Or can they continue travelling with the UK passport as if they had never got citizenship? The reason that ask is that I’ve just received citizenship, but now have to quickly leave Australia for a short trip and haven’t had time to get an Australian passport. I’m worried the PR is removed from my existing passport in favour of my citizenship making my UK passport worthless for reentering Australia. Any official articles always say dual citizens must leave/enter using Australian passport. thanks. Sorry if it’s been asked and I missed it.
  9. Hello people~ I need help to understand the residence calculator on DHA website. Very confused. It says before applying for Citizenship, you must have lived in Australia lawfully for 4 years, including 1 year as a permanent resident. And you cannot have been outside Australia for 12 months total, during the past 4 years. So I did enter my dates in the calculator as seen below. Permanent Residence Date: 31/08/2019 Lawful Residence Date: 07/02/2016 Intended Lodgement Date: 11/09/2020 and the absence dates: From Date: 05 Jun 2016 To Date: 02 Feb 2017 From Date: 30 Apr 2017 To Date: 01 Aug 2017 From Date: 01 Oct 2018 To Date: 23 Dec 2018 From Date: 03 Dec 2019 To Date: 20 Jan 2020 Now the calculator says yes I can apply for Citizenship but we can clearly see that I've been out for 17 months...it doesn't make sense. Also..should I count from the first visa I got in Australia? which was in 2008. or the first visa i got 4 years before the citizenship application. Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
  10. Hi all!!! I'm very excited because I got the invitation for the ceremony in September (City of Sydney Council). The issue? Well... I'm going overseas for 2 weeks in October as my sister is visiting after 3 years. I informed immigration as soon as I bought the tickets, about 2 months ago. The trip is about 10 days after the ceremony. My question? Would there be an issue if I don't get the passport on time or should I just reject the invitation and wait for the next invitation to a ceremony? I called immigration and they couldn't give me a straight answer. Have a great weekend!
  11. Hi all We are eligible to become citizens here now, and we need to proceed so my kids can apply for student loans - my eldest is currently coming towards the end of year 11, so we need to get on. Is it just me, or does the page/site never work? I get permanent sever errors here: if anyone has any sinight here on when is a good time to look, please let me know! Thanks in advance Matt
  12. Starting our citizenship application and a little overwlemed with the amount of details needed. For example, Countries visited since the age of 18 - do we need to add in all of the foreign holidays ever taken?
  13. Hello, I have just started my application for citizenship and I am not sure about the bit where you enter your parents citizenship details. The question is... Has this parent ever held citizenship of any country? Include all current and all previous citizenships held So my parents are standard British born and raised with British passports, so do I need to fill this part out? The pop up box asks for when and where the citizenship was acquired, how am I supposed to answer that? They wont know as their parents would have done it. Thank you for any help. P.
  14. I and my wife moved to Australia on work sponsor 457 visa and the got our PR through her work (Regional Employer Nomination - subclass 187). Recently things are not going well and we are thinking of getting a divorce. Will it affect my citizenship application when I am ready to apply since my PR was done on her application through her work? Thanks
  15. Hi all As many of you will remember, in April 2017 Malcolm Turnbull and Peter Dutton announced their Australian Citizenship Legislation Amendment Bill, which then failed to pass with the Senate later the same year. The changes included stricter english language requirements and an increase in PR requirement for citizenship by conferral from 1 year to 4 years. Although I'm not yet able to vote, I kept a close eye on the election and was reading up on any immigration-related statements made by Scott Morrison and Bill Shorten. The whole subject of changes to citizenship and visa pathways has seemed to quieten down for now, but given the election result i'm wondering where this might be on the coalition government's agenda. There's not an awful lot of discussion online regarding this, aside from an SBS article posted in January which summarises the 2017 bill and gives some insight in to the requirements to pass a similar bill in future. Would anyone more politically minded than me be willing to share their 2 cents or predictions on whether this is now likely to show it's head again, given the election result? Or is it off the table given their inability to pass it back in 2017. Tom
  16. Hi all! after a little advice (and I’m sure it’s in here somewhere but we have a LOT of posts) I’ve recently moved back to Sydney (worked in the UK for two years, missed it so much, and decided here is where I belong) and although I am originally British, I now have dual citizenship (thank goodness I got that after 8 years here) my question is - my mum (only remaining relative - 69, healthy enough, retired, but without a pension, she owns her house and has no debt though) is in England. I miss her so so much. I realise visa wise it would take forever, or involve lots of money (once I’ve been back here 2 years) for her to move here. however...the dream is I could spend a couple months in the UK each year (I’m freelance, well starting my own business, so long term will be possible) and she could come stay with/visit me for terms. how long is she allowed to stay here, each year or at a time? And if (I doubt it but you never know) she ever needed a doctor, or severed a limb...would we/Australia leave or help!? i know slightly silly/obvious questions but I’m keen not to be all excited about her coming here for a few months at a time, if it’s really impossible. thanks so much lisa
  17. I thought of creating a new timeline thread for citizenship applicant for 2018 and 2019. Sharing mines. Date applied: June 2018 City/Council area: Perth Online / Paper: Online Date received the acknowledgement email: June 2018 Date of the Citizenship Interview and Test: 15 March 2019 (Passed) Approval: TBD Date of ceremony: TBD Type of ceremony (Urgent/Normal): TBD I checked my online IMMI account like 10 times a day ever since I passed the test. I'm actually getting depressed now because some good job opportunities are passing by now. Oh well.
  18. Dear Experts / Friends, Good day. We have a situation and kindly seeking some advise 1. We've applied for Citizenship application ~8 months back. As per the current processing times, looks like it will take ~23 months 2. We're a family of 3 and our PR (189) expired (I mean the expiry date) few months back and hence need to apply for RRV as we have a need to travel out of Australia for a very brief time (Personal and not business related). Question Is the travel fine? (~2 months). Hope the travel doesn't affect the citizenship application Thanks!

    Citizenship Processing

Hi Everyone , Sry if I'm new to this , so not sure how it really works but any information is really appreciated I applied for my citizenship on 30/11/2017, got their notice for the exam, and it was on 11/3/2019 and passed, now pending the approval, any idea how long that can take, I live at bayside council, Sydney. 20. Does anyone know the process of getting British citizenship for children aged 10 and 14? We live in Australia, my sons were born here and have Australian citizenship and passports. i am on a PR visa with a British passport. I have lived here on and off, mostly on for the last 40 years. Iam planning to get Oz citizenship too and dual nationality, and I’d like the same for them. Any info or advice appreciated.
  21. Evening everyone. I have been searching for an answer for a while on here, but to no avail I was wondering if anyone has sat the citizenship test back in the UK? What was the process? How did you get on with becoming a citizen i.e completing the ceremony after sitting the test in the UK? I'm conscious that the timeline is getting longer and longer from applying for citizenship, getting invited for the test/ interview then having the ceremony so this I feel is a pressing issue with people having ties in the UK. Many thanks
  22. Hi guys, I am filling up the online application form to apply for Australian citizenship. At the end of the application form, I have to upload relevant documents. Here I am seeing multiple sections such as "Document including photograph and signature", "Address - Residential, Evidence of" etc. with each section providing a "Chose files" button to select and upload file. However, I also see 2 sections here which has my parents' name as title but no "Chose files" button - has anyone else encountered this? What does this mean? Makes me almost think that there is an error with the application form...what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help.
  23. Hi, I need some advise. I am filing my citizenship application in 2 weeks time; now I have an offer from overseas for 1 year contract; may I apply and leave the country while my wife and kids can stay in Perth? I am confused, whether this will affect my citizenship application decision?
  24. Hello, Need some advice on the residency requirements for citizenship, please. The dept of home affairs website says one needs to have lived in Australia for 4 years before applying with at least 12 months of that being on a PR visa and I understand that one can't be away for more than 12 months at a time and no more than 90 days in the past 12 months. I worked in Australia on a 457 for about 13 months in 2013, went back to the UK in 2014 but made several short trips for holiday/meetings between leaving in 2014 and when I came back on another 457 in 2016. Been in Australia since March 2016 and on a PR visa for about 18 months now. In March 2019, I would have completed 3 years since I arrived in 2016. And technically, I've never had a continuous period of 12 months that I've been outside Australia. My questions : 1. Can I add up the 13 months (in 2013-2014) + 3 years (2016-2019) to qualify to apply for citizenship in March 2019 and meet the 4 year residency requirement? 2. I tried inputting all the dates I was in and out of the country on the home affairs calculator and it did say I would be eligible to apply in Feb 2019. I understand the calculator is just an estimation tool and can't be used as evidence of eligibility? Thanks in advance for replying! Best wishes for a great 2019! JustUs
  25. Hello all. Really need some help. My daughter was born overseas last month and my husband is an Australian citizen while I am a temporary resident. I want to travel to Australia ASAP to be with my husband. What’s my best option? Applying for citizenship by descent would take too long if I add my daughter in my application for PR, would that be enough for her to get a visa for now as we’ve gotten a passport made for her from the country she was born in. We’ll be grateful for any help. Thanks
