    Cheap Builder's Merchants

We have been in Brisbane west now for 7 mths and oh is starting up as a carpenter/handyman. The price of timber etc. seems to be quite expensive (like every other damn thing). Can anybody recommend reasonably priced builder's merchants.
  3. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone can recommend a Public Notary in Dublin that doesn't cost a fortune? I contacted one today and he was quoting €50 per document up to €100 and then €20 each after that, it just seems a bit much!! So far i have on my list to get done is birth cert, passport, college degree, college transcript, Ielts exam results. am i missing anything else? pay slips?? Also do i need to get work references done too even if i can get multiple originals of them to send? This is all to apply to ACS to get my skills assessed and then apply for visa. Thanks in advance for any info given :wubclub:
  4. Hi We would like to come to Perth for a visit in Aug 2010 and looking seriously for a place to stay. Need a place with cooking facilities (kitchen with microwave, burners for cooking and kettle at least) and I have been looking on the internet - nothing seemed cheap at all. We are from the UK and I have two toddlers- aged 3 and 2 respectively and it will be an absolute must that we have a place which has some space (rather a room) for the kids to move around. Can anyone recommend a decent place to stay pls- which is reasonably price hopefully anywhere in Perth. The places we are looking at- can be 30 mins from the Perth CBD itself...not too fussed about it. Which means- areas like Floreat, Woodloands, Churchlands, North Beach, Carine, Dungraig, Sorrento, Cith Beach etc. Anyone who can recommend to us anything at this point of time- greatly appreciated. Thanks:biggrin:
  5. Hi, been looking at houses on the net for when we make our move down under and was wondering if anyone had any good sites for info on particular suburbs. I'm hoping to get somewhere in the wa suburbs around 30-45 minutes from the cbd, under the $300,000 mark. I have found some property within our budget in medina, palmeria, armadale and kelmscott. Does anyone have any info on these particular areas? Thanks.
  6. Hi folks, We are off on our hols soon - first time outside of Oz since we got here. Can anyone recommend a good bank/foreign currency place to get our holiday money with low fees and good rates? Oz is not like the Uk chargingt 2 pound 50 to change money. When I got to Oz i got stung by ANZ charging me $8 to change 20 quid - robbing buggers!

  11. Just a reminder that BA have a special offer on to coincide with the Ashes where they deduct the highest England Innings score (in Aussie $) off their normal price of a return flight to the UK from the host city. Therefore as England scored a massive 644 in Sydney they will be deducting this off their usual price of around $2000. The offer says that it's only available for the first 250 bookings (but I am led to believe they may allow a lot more). Tickets go on sale on the 8th January for 1 day only. I was lucky enough to get $620 off my flight next month from Adelaide due to the score there (ended up paying a tad over $1400) Further details can be found here : Spice News: Special Events, Product Launches, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibition - Qantas and British Airways heat up The Ashes Daniel

    Property not as cheap now?

Hi to all, I am currently watching the new series of Wanted Down Under and what a shock to see that house prices have rocketed over the last few years (or even longer?). It seems that whoever is on the programme, they all compare living expenses with the UK and it's cheaper to live in the UK. Maybe it depends on where you want to live in OZ and which state? Also, whether you are a skilled worker i think makes a difference to work availability and how much you can earn. It's quite daunting really because it appears that Australia is no where as cheap as it has appeared to be, say 7 years ago when my brother's moved back to south of Perth. The lifestyle will always be the same and that's what's so appealing to many, but you have to live and no one likes to live in a beautiful country with a hole in there pockets!! Makes you think twice about migrating so it's important to do your homework and leave no stone un-turned as they say. Any comments please would be greatly appreciated:cute:
  13. hi to all if anyone knows of any caravan parks around albany area in Wa please reply i have had a quick look but cannot find anything under 90/100 dollars a night which i think is a bit highly priced we will be there on the 8th march 2011 and may stay up to a few weeks, but this doesnt seem to bring the price down much lower as apose to a 1 night stay thanks in advance ps_ would it be beneficial to join the big 4 member ship before hand to sva eon some costs or is this more for touring

    Caravan, cheap rental

Hi All Look I don't know this person, all I was doing was looking for a caravan for myself and i thought this might be a good idea for a short term rental, the price to buy is about the same as renting for 6 months and at the end you can sell it to get your money back! As I said it was only an idea and I don't know this person. It's in Williamstown, Melbourne On Site Caravan **75% Return on Investment** (eBay item 140482534393 end time 05-Dec-10 11:00:59 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats

    Cheap accomodation of Canberra

Just received approval from Canberra for a sponsored visa. Was wondering which areas have cheap accommodation for a starting point as it is only me moving me and trying to make what limited funds I have last a bit longer. For the short term would a motel or bed and breakfast be a wise choice? Any comments gratefully received as I wait for the visa to be processed.

  18. Hi everyone, Was hoping to get some advice from any travel experts or frequent flyers. Having been in Oz for 18 months, I am planning a trip back home next April to co-incide with the Victorian school holidays (I am a teacher). I just wanted to try and find out where and when would be the best place to book my flights. The current best price I can find is $1760 dollars return with Etihad on Expedia. Do people know if this price is likely to come down if I leave off booking for a few months? Or will it just get more expensive? Or is there no way of telling? Also does anyone know of better websites/agencies to book through for the cheapest prices? Thanks in advance, Neil

    Wanted cheap runabout car

  21. I have been scouring the sales for cheap suitcases to make our journey to Oz in October. We have suitcases but due to double baggage allowance we needed more to accommodate all our stuff. Anyway, in a shop called 'Priceless Shoes' they sell these amazing holdalls on wheels with a pull handle. They are £10 each and are ideal if you want something cheap just to get your stuff there. They are huge and can hold just as much stuff as a large expanding suitcase. I bought one from them about 5 years ago and its been on many journeys and a couple of festivals with us and a wheel finally broke on it in April (though it still did the job). Just thought i'd share with you incase someone is in a similar situation. :wideeyed:
  22. We're currently in the process of getting our shipping quotes and they are coming in between £3500 - £4500 for a 20ft container. However Doree Bonner have quoted £2200 for a 20ft decompressed fridge container. Apparently is exactly the same as a standard container but still has the old refrideration motor inside which takes up a bit of space which is why it is cheaper (NOT in use of course!) Anyone ever used one of these??
  23. Hi Guys Does anyone have any advise on finding cheap flights. Were flying out one way to Melbourne in November and were trying to find a good deal on some flights. We really want to fly from Manchester or Birmingham and have flown before with Singapore and Emirates but the cheapest I can find is £629 each. From London I have found a flight with Cathay Pacific for £490 each but I am not sure about flying from London or flying with CP. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Cheers guys. Jo
