  1. Hi, I'm moving to the Central Coast in 23 1/2 days and am wondering what the best ways to meet new people are there? What are the things Aussies do to make new friends? I'm moving with my partner so will know people through him but want to meet people on my own. Where do 20-somethings meet other 20-somethings?
  2. Hi there everyone, just popping in to say hi and to see if any one else from our neck of the woods is going through the visa process or moving to Adelaide as we hope to. I have already posted a few times on the site but thought I'd officially say hi here too! We're off to our solicitors today to get some more docs certified for state sponsorship. We've just completed our online application for state sponsorship for a 475 and just need to post off our supporting documents, wait a few weeks then get going with our visa. Our house is also going on the market on Monday (not the best time to sell, I know :frown:) and I'm nearly 33 weeks preggers with 2nd child, due on 1st march. I think we're probably doing quite a lot of stressful things all at once!!!
  3. Hiya, we just arrived in Brisbane and have taken out a lease on a house in Central Lakes, just wondering if anyone else lives near. Thanks Dan&Bella:yes:

    Canberra central primary schools

My first post- just found this great site! We are moving to Canberra later this year and would love to have some info on schools in advance, instead of making a snap decision because of arriving in the middle of the school year. A number of schools have impressive websites, (but the website would be impressive, wouldn't it?!!!) Would really appreciate advice. Looking forward to chatting more!
  6. hi we are new to this site, we are a family of 5, 3 boys aged 10.8.and 4 and we are off to nsw central coast next year when visa is ready and house is sold, anyone going that way or been, such a big step migrating but hey you can always come back if you dont like it, we just want a better life style for us and the boys, bye for now the gouge family
  7. Hi all, Can anyone answer a simple question for me? Generally speaking are properties rented furnished or un-furnished? None of the ads on various websites seem to state this ansd none of the agents I've contacted have replied to me. I'm asking as we're moving over from UK in January 09 and wonder whether it would be worth staying in a holiday apartment for a while and search for a rental property or whether should jump straight in to a rental. Obviously then we'd have to find some sort of furniture pretty quickly! Thanks in advance, Tim
  8. Hi there We have been looking at property prices on the Central Coast,NSW. We have pleasantly surprised at the apparent value for money. However I can’t seem to find much information about High Schools up there. Can anybody advise on both Public and /or the independent sector? Are there any areas significantly better than others? Thanks in advance!
  9. We only arrived on Sunday so we are still trying to find our way around. We fancy taking a trip to the beach on Saturday but we have no idea which one to go to. So can anyone recomend the nicest beach close to central Perth and also if you could help me out with directions as to how to get there using public transport - that would be amazing! Lovin it so far! Thanks Emma x
  10. Hi there, My husband Danny (30) me (30) and our daughter Matilda (10 months) are coming over to Oz for Christmas and we were hoping to meet up with some people who are based on the Central Coast as we are planning to make the move next summer and would love some advice about the area. We are staying in The Entrance from the 18th to 24th December before heading over to Melbourne for Xmas and Sydney for new year. I have stayed on the Central Coast a number of times, but this will be the first time we will be looking at it as an area to relocate to, so any advice would be a huge help. I am a teacher, so would be interested to meet anyone who works in education and Danny is in sales. I know that Christmas will be a busy time for everyone, but if anybody out there has a few hours they could spare a few poms desparate to be down under, we'll happily buy you a beer in exchange for your words of wisdom! Thank you!! Sarah:yes:
  11. The last in the Saw series is been released on Friday and I wont get time to see if before i fly to Oz so I need to find somewhere i can watch it when i arrive :jiggy: Can anyone recommend a nice cinema complex close to Central Perth or close by good public transport? Also here in the UK we have gold class as an option which is a smaller screening of a movie, with bar facilities, lazy boy seating, no children basically a bit more luxury, Do you have this in Oz? Many thanks for any help Emma x
  12. Hello. We are all booked up to go on our reccie to Central Coast NSW in four and a half weeks :spinny:. Very, very excited! I just wondered if I could have a little bit of advice on a couple of things, because I have started looking at the suitcases, thinking that I should perhaps start to get some things together! Firstly, what can we expect the weather to be like in the beginning of September? We have two children (a two and a half year old and a six month old) and so have tons of paraphenalia to take for them, so I don't want to take clothes that we don't need. Am I right in thinking (from the bit of research I have managed to do so far) that it should be fairly dry and warmish, up to about 20degC during the day? Secondly, our youngest daughter is being weaned at the moment. We will therefore need a supply of baby food for when we get to Australia until we can find a supermarket (we arrive at 1850 and are staying in an airport hotel for the first night). Am I right in thinking that we can take sealed jars of baby food with us as long as we declare it on the card that we fill in on the plane. Do we then have to go through the "something to declare" channel? Thirdly and finally (for now at least), we were planning on taking some money with us in cash and then using my hubbys debit (barclays) card much as we would in the UK (I know we'll be charged commission but hey ho). Is this the right thing to do? We will notify the bank about him using his card whilst we are there so it doesn't get stopped or anything. Ah, remembered something else. My hubby has a couple of meetings/half days looking round business premises whilst we are there and so we would like to both have our mobile phones work in case he is going to be late home etc. What is the best way to do this? Should we take our current phones unlocked and just buy new pay as you go sim cards out there, or is it better to do that in the UK? We would like to be contactable from the UK too (the house we are renting has no phone) because our house is going on the market in the next couple of weeks, plus for family to get hold of us. Any advice on this would be great!:cute:

  16. Hi, moving to OZ mid April to eventually live and work on the Central Coast in Tuggerah. Staying with friends in Sydney until we can find a home on the Central coast somewhere. If anyone has any tips on renting and nice areas to live around here and who would like to meet up once we are there grateful if they could get in touch. Thanks steve
  17. Hi all of you with aussie knowledge ! My hubby is doing a reccie at Easter in order to make the final decision on behalf of our family (us and 2 littlies aged 3 and 7 months). We have started the visa process in the mean time and our agents are currently compiling our TRA. He's only over for 11 days in total and heading for the Central Coast. He's staying with my Aunt and Uncle who live in Wiley Park, Sydney. They are kindly accomodating and chauffering him around for the 2 weeks but time is going to be tight. Bearing in mind the family - primary school/kindy needed for my daughter, nursery for my son. Secondary schools for us as we're both teachers. where should he start ?!? What areas of the Central Coast should we avoid ? i know i've asked a lot but we need to fit everything into a short time and he has a big decision to make based on this trip. thankyou - in hope !! natalie x
