  1. ...plenty in Sydney I know but anyone else up on the Central Coast ?
  2. I've been living in Gosford with my Australian boyfriend for about 6 months now but have found it quite difficult to meet new friends as I've had a hard time finding work and don't have children so don't really get to meet many new people. I'd love to meet some people in their 20s to have a drink with or do stuff with occasionally. I miss having a group of friends to do things with like I had in the UK and I'm getting bored of staying in on a Friday night! lol
  3. None of your business I hear you cry! But seriously if you dont mind I am trying to work out how our affordability will work when we go to Aus. At the moment my husband works and I look after the 3 kids, when we go to Aus we will have a considerable drop in income as my husband will have to get his new Aus plumbing licenses and work for someone else for a while we think. I was just wondering what your monthly bills are on average, such as utility bills, council type taxes, insurances - health, life insurance etc, food, schools and so on so we can get an idea of how much we need to earn as a minimum. Hopefully you wont mind answering! Thanks in advance. x
  4. HI all, wonder if i could pick a few of your huge brains!! House is on the market and its all happening but we are still not sure where to go! Perth is our main choice at present but I used to live in Sydney and really feel would like to live in new south wales. The central coast looks reasonable property wise but was wondering what the job situation was like? Are there any big towns or areas that anyone can recommend? My other half is currently working in fire control and i am a nurse. Any insight would be great , thanks
  5. Hello there, Sorry if your thinking of moving back to the UK and its not worked out. were moving out at the beginning of Sept and will be needing a car straight away and looking to buy a small boat in time. If anyone who's moving back has any of these to off load then please drop me a message. Cheers and all the best, Joe
  6. Hi All, Anyone live in Woy Woy and commute to Sydney? I have looked at the trains at it seems to be 1hour and 20mins to Town Hall Station. Is this realistic? Do they run on time? I used to go up to the Central Coast a lot when I lived out there 6yrs ago but always drove. We need a house with a garden (as we have two dogs) but we are looking at around $600pw in Sydney, yet similar properties in Woy Woy are half that! There also seems to be more off leash areas (inc beaches...yay!) which is another big selling point for us! Any advice from anyone that does that commute would be really appreciated! Danielle x
  7. My husband and I have been living on the Central Coast since January and would love to meet up with others of similar age. We came over to join our children, but need to meet some people of our own age...give or take 15 years or so! We are in Woongarrah, Wyongshire. Julie
  8. Hi There, I've just moved here and am based in the Darlinghurst area in the centre of Sydney. I realise this is a pretty pricey area but to honest I am shocked at how expensive food is! I knew is was expensive but am really stuggling to find reasonably priced food. People are mentioning going to markets for veggies and meat. Does anyone recommend any good sources of cheaper food in central Sydney? I'm currently using Coles and Woolworths and it's killing me! Any hints or tips welcome
  9. Just moved from Adelaide to NSW, which I absolutely love. But I have left all my friends behind. My partner works in the city during the day, and Ive pretty much set up the new house and Im all organised. So Im getting a bit bored. Im looking for work but until then Id really like to meet up with anyone who likes a good natter and a spot of shopping. Im 36 (37 on Sunday), got no kids but love them, and live in Kincumber. A happy to travel to meet up with like minded people. Hope to hear from someone soon Louise
  10. Hi there I have recently moved to the Terrigal on the Central Coast and would love to meet up for a coffee with anyone. I am 49 and have two daughters. Linda:biglaugh:
  11. We have lived in Woongarrah on the Central Coast since January - it's not far from Wyong. (We being husband & wife 64 & 62) looking to meet up with others around the area....better still if there are any of you out there who play bridge who would like a friendly game over a bottle or two of wine. Julie and Ian PS We emigrated in Oct 2010 to catch up with our children and granddaughters

  14. Hi All, Well we're here and so far so good, everything seems to be slotting in to place! Sooooooo tired but forcing ourselves to stay awake everyday so jetlag doesn't get us! SUNDAY Arrived Sun night and spent it in the City as need to sort bank account and TFN then drove up to the central coast on Monday. Flight was fine, not as bad as I remembered. Singapore Airlines were great. MONDAY Popped in to see a fellow PIO Member Natalie who very kindly gave us some plates, pots and pans etc that she had first bought when they arrived. Checked in to motel, not great but it is super duper cheap so cant complain. TUESDAY Starting viewing houses in Umina Beach, Ettalong Beach, Woy Woy and Blackwall. The penninsula is tiny and you are never more than a 10min drive to train station. Umina is def the nicest suburb. General advice for anyone looking to live in these suburbs is to prob avoid anything under around $300pw....I am not that fussy but some of the houses looked like they were about to fall down!!!! The first two houses we saw were ideal and dog friendly so we put in applications for both straight away. Because we have the dogs and also only I am working we offered 2mths rent upfront to add a bit more weight to our application and give the landlord peace of mind! We also attached a one page document on us, our situation, details on dogs etc and two references from previous landlord and housemate. Then went off that day car shopping (plenty of second hand car dealerships in North Gosford) and after a few test drives decided on a 10yr old 2.2 Holden (Vauxhall) Vectra, 90,000km's, full service history, 6mths rego, 1yrs warranty and roadside cover - all for $4990 (sounds pricey but that is the bargain of the century here!!). Just having that warranty is worth it...we were so worried that we were going to have to settle for a crappy car and it would blow up on us, then we'd be stuck! The dealership we bought from is owned by a POM that moved over 18yrs ago!! Just as we signed the paperwork for the car we got a call from the real estate agent saying we'd been approved on one of the houses!!!! 4hours or so after we viewed it!!! And we move in today (Thursday!!). Such a quick turnaround! The house Umina Beach which is only 5mins to train station and 5min beach. It's a 3-bed, 2-bath, nice new kitchen and bathroom, wooden floors, big garden with a built in BBQ and big covered verandah/decking area. Really pleased. Because we have dogs they would only give us a 3mth lease to begin with but have said if all goes well and nothing gets chewed we can carry on. They also stated that the dogs must be outside....be prepared for this as this was a common request. So Tuesday was a really exciting day but also really scary as a massive chunk of our money disappeared! No longer loads of $$$$ sat in the bank! Wednesday Spent the day on freecycle and gumtree since trying to find furniture! Picking up two sofas, a bed, fridge and washing machine today!!! Also raided KMart for housey bits like toaster, kettles, duvets etc.... Once all of that was sourced headed over to Terrigal to have a look around and have some much need rest (had a little snoozy on the beach)....Terrigal is AMAZING!!!!!!! Just wish it was nearer to the train station! Maybe move that way in a few years?! Thursday MOVING IN TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Woke up super early as too excited! Going to pick up a ute this morning to transport all furniture we've bought! Rest of the week Plan to go and to see the dogs for the first time since arriving on Friday! Hope to just chill out Sat and Sun. Start work Mon! Sooooo...thats it for now. Send another update soon! Danielle and MJ
  15. Hello Everyone, My family are moving to the Central Coast next August and my daughter is already worried about leaving her school friends and making new friends in Oz. She will turn 6 next week and is in year 1 here. I thought it would be valuable if she could make a new friend(s) and learn something about Aussie life and Aussie school before we head out. I thought perhaps we could start off with an email and maybe work towards sending a short letter and picture through the real life post?? Any child, boy or girl between 4 and 8 would be perfect and you don't have to be Central coast either, I suppose. Sophie (36), Joe (39), Jeannie (almost 6) and Eddie (3). :cute:
  16. Hi, My partner is a carpenter builder with work in central Brisbane (usually no more than 5km from the CBD). Work is predominantly renovations on Queenslanders. He is looking for a carpenter to start working with him from mid Januray 2011. You will need to have your BSA license or very close to getting it, have your own vehicle, at least the majority of tools needed and public liability insurance. As the work is central Brisbane you will alo need to live a maximum of 10km from the CBD. You will need to be motivated as the ideal would be to find someone to grow with the company. Please contact me with your experience, where you live, license status etc (as above) and your hourly rate. Pay will depend on experience/tools etc. Thanks
  17. Hi there My wife and I have just made our permanent move from UK (Lancashire) and are staying on Central Coast (Erina) and would love to meet up for drinks / coffee /chat with other friendly faces - we are late-30's no kids (but definitely child friendly!) and like a drink and a laugh. Hope to hear from someone out there. Simon n Julie
  18. Hi there, Myself, my wife and child (will be one at the time of travel) are going to Sydney for 3 weeks in March. We are looking to stay in Central Coast area (Avoca etc). Do anyone knowof any good sites where you can get a house or apartment rental for 3 weeks? We have seen holiday apartments online with nightly prices of $100. Is this the average price we should expect to pay or can we do better? regards, downunder
  19. We are located about half way between Sydney and Newcastle in NSW. We are planning to travel back to the UK and North London from May til September 2011. We would be interested in doing a home+car exchange with a family who wants to check-out life down under. Is anyone interested?. We are looking at all options to keep the cost of our trips down. Last year we spent a fortune on hotels and car hire. We would even consider a non-simultanious exchange, camper van, holiday home by the sea, or even rental for our home. Stuart and Milie

We are looking to try and meet some people up in the area for barbies, playdates or a catch up for a beer. We both work in Sydney during the week. It would be great to get a network together. Look forward to hearing from anyone Amanda
