    dental care

Hi guys Can anyone enlighten me on dental care in oz? Can this be done on your medical care insurance that you pay for or is it all private care? After speaking to someone we know in oz they have paid an arm and a leg for their 14 year old daughter to have braces. Our daughter went to the dentist today for an assessment for having a brace, and unfortunately the waiting list is 8 months (dentist said this was good, normally 18 months). The thing is we're quite sure we'll be in oz before then so it looks like my speed boat is on hold. Any advice appreciated. eddie :arghh::arghh: by the way when i went to school we used to take the mickey out of the unfortunate kids who had braces yet it seems the cool thing to have a brace these days, or am i just a miserable old fart? :nah:

    Struggling to Care

Does the fact that I am really not bothered that our much hyped cricket team is doing badly against South Africa suggest I am already part Aussie, at least in mind?

    Health Care

Hi, I have an opportunity of a life time - or I think so! The BBC run a programme called 'Wanted down under' and I have been interviewed to be on the show - it basically takes a family to Oz for a week free - you are given the opportunity to live/work and experience the life. I want this opportunity - question - I am a chronic sufferer of psoriasis - which is a skin condition - and I am treated at Guy's hospital - London- with a new drug to the UK! - the BBC want me to find out about the health care system and give a comparision of the two ie. which is best pro and cons how the system in Oz works - and I thought the best people to ask are the brits experiencing the Oz health care system themselves. If anyone is working in the health care system in Melbourne who wouldn't mind helping me find the answers to the more specific question regarding my skin treatment I would be eternally grateful - I want this opportunity - It's the dream the one I actually want to achieve. Thank's everyone

  9. We are hoping to move to Brisbane later this year- if successful with visa application & then as soon as house sells. Can anyone tell me if Brisbane or other areas of Australia have holiday & after-school care for children ( my girl is 8 ) as this would be a big consideration for us if both working.. Thanks, Wee Wen

    Maternity care in Australia

I we are off to Australia in April and i have just found we are expecting our second child in July, just to add a bit more stress into the mix! I am concerned that I am going to and up paying $1000 in maternity care as this is excluded for a year from all private insurers and I am not sure what is covered by Medicare. Any advice from those who had their child in Australia?
  11. Hi there, does anyone have any information on finding a registered child-minder in Brisbane? We've been told that nursery places are hard to come by with long waiting lists and we were wondering what the alternatives are. Much the same as the UK, with registered childminders etc? All information / advice and guidance gratefully received! Best wishes - Mark and Jo and Fin
  12. We are off to regional vic in April 06 at long last. Looking at Belmont/Highton side of Geelong. I am a qualified counsellor and I also work out in the community with clients who require care in their own homes. Hubby is a qualified aircraft engineer and although hopes to look into other career options is looking for this work to start us off. Has anyone got any info on these careers?? Pay? Contacts? any info would be appreciated. I have found a couple of companys that look like viable options for my work but I still cannot pin point any level of salary? Is anyone else looking at these areas of vic or areas of work?? Thanks Nikki, Gaz Tabatha(12) Dan(8)
