Mothers Day card made me cry

Just received a Mothers Day card from my son in the UK and it just brought home how much I really do miss him. I had forgotten it was Mothers Day as we dont celebrate it in Australia until 11th May, so I hadnt braced myself for it. It just made me cry... I miss him soooo very very much. I cant even call him to let him know coz he has gone off to France skiing in the middle of nowhere. Cant wait till he comes over in May but unfortunately its not till the 25th so still wont be able to spend Mothers day with him. Love you Aaron - hurry on over and have a great time skiing.

    no debit card

Looking at Westpac,s day to day bank account - they say they dont issue debit cards to non permenant residents. We are coming over on a long stay 4 yr visa - and according to westpac site they can offer a handycard instead. There's no info on their site re the handycard. Anyone know if it can act as a cheque guarantee card and allow you to do the equivalent of switch/maestro transactions that we do here. Dont think i can operate with out buying online and switch! Or can anyone on the same type of visa offer any advice on a bank that can offer this. Looking for any pointers!! Starting to run out of time!! Leaving Jan 28th for Brisbane. Hold the sun!! Lisa

    blue card

Hi guys Heres one of my silliest questions so far - just had a look on the web site for obtaining a blue card. Its says on the site that you need amongst other things a printer connected to pc. Well basically i haven't a printer to work with my laptop. Does anyone know if i can still go ahead and complete this without my printer? Do they post certificate to you or is this what i need the printer for? Cheers. Confused. Eddie:goofy:

    Credit Card Fraud

Hubby got an email from our credit card company in Aus (Virgin), they'd stopped a payment for $3,000 at travelex as it wasn't in keeping with our normal usage. Hubby told them we hadn't withdrawn any money - no problems the fraud department would deal with it. They were very quick and handled it really well. What got us is that the thief must have had a dose of guilt 'cos there was also a $2.80 donation to christian Aid! Ali

    Blue Card

Hi all, can anyone tell me how you get a blue card? and what exactly one is, i think it's a health and safety ticket or something like that, it seems that all job s we've been lookig at require one. Any help will be gratefully recieved.
  11. Hi guys, one of my friends has sent me this email, and I thought I ought to pass it on. Once you have read this please also read oz warning for LADIES. WARNING..New Credit Card Scam. Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. The scam works like this: Person calling says, "This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460 your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card, which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497-99 from a Marketing company based in Sydney?" When you say "No", the caller continues with, "Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?" You say "yes". The caller continues - "I will be starting a Fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1-800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6-digit number. "Do you need me to read it again?" Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works. The caller then says, "I need to verify you are in possession of your card". He'll ask you to "turn your card over and look for some numbers". There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number; the next 3 are the security numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, "That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?" After you say No, the caller then thanks you and states, "Don't; hesitate to call back if you do", and > hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number but after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card. I checked this out on snopes.com. Long story made short - we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master card directly for verification of their conversation. The real VISA told us that they would never ask for anything on the card, as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report. What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a "Jason Richardson of MasterCard" with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell Everybody we know that this scam is happening. Please pass this on to all your family and friends. By informing each other, we protect each other. Regards Kim

    Lost Credit Card

My husband has just informed me he has lost his credit card and yes it is the one we put down on our visa application. Application was sent on 19th March but not been acknowledged yet nor has the card be charged. Credit card company have been totaly unhelpful regarding this and said they cannot honour our payment once the card has been stoped. What do I do in this situation as I am sure imagration don't even know who I am yet. Will they send my application back? Thanks in advance Jan :arghh:
  14. Hi Has anyone paid their visa app using their debit card through the post? We ticked debit card box then wrote our debit card no in the space provided and speaking to others ,now think we may have made a mistake. Shouldn't think it will hold things up too much but any light shed on it woult be appreciated cheers Paul &Emma

    CSCS Card

Can anyone tell me if the CSCS card are recognised in OZ and if not what is the equivelent to it? :?
  18. I am in the building trade and hoping to move over to Brisbane in September, should I try to obtain a blue card and ABN before I go, so I can pick up work quickly? Or is it only possible to do once I'm there? If so, how long does it take to get the relevant documentation together in order to start work? I'm sub-contracting here and want to do the same over there (enjoy the freedom and flexibility), it seems that most companies prefer workers on the books (wages), is sub-contract work available out there? Anything else I need to get work? How long do I need to be working before I can get a mortgage??? Loads of questions I know, but I'd really appreciate some feedback. Cheers!
