  1. Does anyone know of a good tax accountant in Brisbane who knows both UK and Aussie tax? Thanks so much!
  2. For some time now i've been planning a move to australia, for the sake of this being concise i won't go into those reasons although i know it will be asked. My issues are that i have absolutely no idea on the best road to take to get a citizenship. Some details about me are, i've just began to work a manual labor job (my first) I'm very nearly 19 years old. i have an extremely basic education, no college. I've spent countless hours trying to think of the best way, reading books, reading forums, etc. But i've come to the conclusion it would be best if i sought out help in planning something so big. Again for reasons i'm not mentioning i'm very rushed to get to my destination, (Brisbane) if that's helpful. I'm willing to take any routes, as i see it, i have the option of getting a skilled worker visa and that's about it, also possibly a student visa. so i'm here seeking out advise and i'm completely humbled and thank anyone for their input. What would be the best way, (perhaps quickest if i don't suffer extremely for it) to get to Brisbane Australia and stay? Thanks in advance for anyone who answers or reads this.

We are in the process of sorting utility suppliers and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for electricity suppliers / contracts ? We are a bit confused how it will work as there are solar panels ! We also have a pool and know this can be costly. Also stupid question but I assume I can just refill the gas bottles at the local bunnings ?? Any help / advice / recommendations would be greatly appreciated !! Cheers

  11. so i applied for my 820 partner visa on the 31st October in Brisbane in person and I was wondering if anyone else had lodged their application there in person recently too? If so how was your experience? I front loaded my application so hopefully it gets dealt with quicker? Also wanted to know how long it took for your application to get acknowledged? Since my working holiday visa expires the 25th of this month, Im hoping my bridging visa will be done by then and I know it wont until the application has been ackowledged? Also, for people wanting to apply in Brisbane in person in the future, make an appointment! I didnt realise you could because it didnt say anything about it on the immigration website and when i got there i was told i was supposed to have made an appointment, but fortunatly it was pretty much empty so they could just see me straight away...

  19. Hi all, we moved over to Brisbane from Scotland at end of May and have now managed to get sorted with jobs, place to stay (Wavell Heights), school for our 4 year old daughter anda car. Now just need to get some mates! Im 37 and love my football (the real stuff :-), running, cycling, and maybe even the odd game of golf - though I'm really crap! Ideally would be great to meet up with some fellow Scots and Brits for coffee, BBQ, trip to the park at the weekend. Got a new phone and no-one to put in it! Game of five-a-sides one night during the week would be amazing but think I may be asking for too much... Hope to hear from you soon Martin
  20. Hi everyone, I am currently in Brisbane on a working holiday, and my employer is keen to sponsor me on a 457 visa as a Project Administrator to take over a project we have been developing. The issue is that they do not meet the training benchmarks to become a sponsor; it is an Australian company with around 500 employees across the country, and I am literally the only non-Aussie citizen or PR. They invest quite a bit back into training, but we have a large annual payroll at the moment and the 1% benchmark is just out of reach (though under new management from the last eight months or so, they are much closer). Does anyone know of companies making the argument that they invest in and support Aussie workers, and that they are working towards the training benchmarks? We have a strong argument for why I am the preferred candidate for the role (as opposed to an Aussie equivalent). We're considering going to an agent for further advice, so if there are recommendations in the Brisbane area I would really appreciate it! Thanks very much, Jackie

I just wondered what the building trade was like in Brisbane. I've heard it's home quiet but then someone said its really busy( confused). What do I need to get going? 24. Hi All, We moved from Sweden earlier in the year - around Jan. Found it almost impossible to get a rental here in Brisbane, so we took a 12 month lease when we only really needed a 6 month lease. The 6 months is coming to an end and we are looking for someone to take over the lease until mid March. Our place is very nice, in Bardon which is about 8 mins to the city and right near Paddington (trendy cafes and art galleries etc). Its a very big townhouse / apartment on two levels. There are 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms on the top level, a living area and kitchen with massive double doors that open out to a fully covered courtyard. The courtyard is very big and was plenty of room for my 1yo and 3 yo to ride their bikes, have a cubby and a sandpit. Downstairs there is den / entertainment room, laundry, storage room, office and another room that could be used as another bedroom or as a storage room. Downstairs also has a back courtyard. Airconditioned, dishwasher, everything modern and in good condition. It was definately the best we could find in our price range. $520 per week. Its a large place - larger than some of the houses we looked at. DOuble carport at the rear of the building. I'm going to contact our Agent and ask them to advertise the house, I just thought I would post it here as I found this resource really useful when we were finding out about moving. If we can save another family the panic and stress we had in finding a place then that will make me very happy! I lived in Brisbane 10 years ago and was totally shocked at the state of the rental market when I returned. Please contact me ASAP as we are wanting to get things sorted. You will still need to apply through the agent. I've taken loads of photos so email me if you are interested. Thanks ELlissa
  25. Dear Citizens, First of all HELLO! I've been trying to find specific threads regarding the Finance Job Market in Brisbane; however I must have two left feet because I cant see any threads this specific. And perhaps Accountancy in general in Oz. So hopefully like a moth to the flame the title of this thread will attract those of you who have already landed in Oz, and have been trying to get that job of a lifetime [apparently there's a skills shortage ??] in the Brisbane area. What's been your story??? My background, hence the reason I ask. Briefly here's the boring science bit: EDUCATION: I have a B.Eng. degree in Chemical Engineering, and am now a Management Accountant; qualified member of ACCA in the UK [and now certified via CPA]. VISA: 175 permanent res. started May12, which means 18mths later before granted, circa xmas2013. WORK: 17yrs in Manufacturing. 4yrs Production Supervisor, moved company. 6yrs Analyst in Sales, then Supply Chain, 7yrs Management Accountant. ASPIRATION: to move into a more commercial/business partnering role than pure Accounting. People who have met me think I work in Sales lol I hope that's a compliment & I think I have missed my calling. Eventually General Senior Management probably in engineering/manufacturing as I do miss it. BUT....and from what I am reading from other threads, the real-life experiences of those of you in Oz [in various jobs] has been dire. No job, hundreds of CV sent off, no one getting back to you, being an immigrant means you're perhaps immediately excluded...all the while paying rent & living in a place more expensive than home, man I feel for you..... Is this the truth of it? where cost of living cf UK is alot higher; even read 1:2.2 how is it getting work, honestly? Hope I've included everything & hope it attracts my fellow Accountants. Remember if Accountancy gets too exciting; try Audit. KR
