  1. Hi there Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of living on the Gold Coast. Do a lot of people commute to work in Brisbane? I really wanted to be near nice beaches but do people in Brisbane get to the beaches in good time? Do people in Brisbane regret not choosing to live nearer the beach? Do people in Gold Coast regret not choosing to live in Brisbane? I know everyone is different and how long is a piece of string and all that.. but just a few views would be nice. By the way i like reading negative posts as well as positive as its all information. Hubby is a forklift driver/production worker so work wise is it going to be difficult on the Gold Coast and probably need to commute? Southern suburbs may be near enough for work to the Gold Coast or am i wrong as the commute could be long?? Thanks Georgie
  2. To say - Hi All, Me and my partner have recently moved to Brisbane into temporary "holiday" accommodation but we are looking to move into our own rented property asap. There are so many different suburbs we really need some good strong guidance from other residents and locals on what suburbs are good, why they are good, which ones are bad and why we should avoid them etc. could anyone please help?! Update - So we are looking for either a house or apartment, need 2 bedrooms or more, being a little further out from the city wouldnt be too much for a problem as we hope to have a car but we want are looking to meet friends in the area so i guess cant be too remote... We have noticed the further out you are the more space you get but is that worth it if the area isnt great or you maybe are too far from the CBD? Thank you so much in advance!! :-) Ash. Reason for update - Forgot to mention some crucial details as @lastonealive mentioned (thank you btw!) Thanks, Ash.

  4. Hi ... We are looking to move, but are staying within the manly area of Brisbane. We wondered if anyone could recommend a good, reasonable company? We've considered Wridgeways and Grace but they are pretty pricey .... unfortunately we don't have enough burly strong mates that we could do it ourselves - sad, but true :twitcy:
  5. Hello everyone... I thought it is a good idea to have a Thread on the citizenship timeline for years 2013/2104 and it could help many people who are on their way to apply for citizenship  People who applied in previous years are also welcome to share their timeline as well. I just thought that the most recent the information is the more accurate it will be. Therefore please share your timeline using below format : Date applied City/Council area Online / Paper Date received the acknowledgement email Date of the Citizenship Test Date of ceremony Type of ceremony (Urgent/Normal) Above is what I thought is good to know. If you think there are other point that could benefit anyone please feel free to add . I'm thanking everyone in advance
  6. Hi all I'm Bec, I've been in Australia for 5 years, living in Brisbane the entire time. I'm 28 and married to an Aussie I have found it difficult to make lasting close friendships during my time here, and would love to make a couple of close girl friends to spend some time with. I enjoy shopping, going out for dinner/drinks, BBQ's at the beach, day trips to new places and camping  If anyone is interested in meeting up for a drink, please get in touch! It would be great if we could get a group of us together to meet up! Cheers

  8. Hi, Sometimes life is really strange, 2 years ago a girl asked me to come down to aussie but it didn't work out and here I'm today with a job offer to Australia and about to move to Australia with my new girlfriend I found out yesterday that I was selected for a job as project manager for a huge project so me and my girlfriend from Sweden got sponsored Visa to Australia. We are getting apartment payed for 3 months, they are paying for the shipping of our stuff from here, health insurance and a lot of other benefits to move. The job is located in Brisbane. This project needs to be completed within 14 months so the contract is only 14 months but I have the possibility to get my job extended. This is a dream come true for many people I guess, get awesome well paid job, Australia etc.. and for me, but, im nervous. I'm swetting all the time, thinking of my family and relatives, because I'm very attached to my family, what if something happens to me, can I handle the job, because I will be responsible for a project with is veeeeeeeery expensive, my head is spinning faster then the earth It self... For those who have migrated, have you been in same thoughts or for those who need to do same trip as I? Have you been nervous, what were your biggest fears. Please share your stories and thoughts.

    Hi everyone!

If you are thinking of upgrading your house all the mess and hard work comes to mind. You can think of ways to avoid the tedious job. If your house is already built and you want to live in the same house but it has become old or wrecked, you can consider a renovation. Some people develop a special love for their home and emotional attachment with it due to the time span spent living in it. They find hard to shift to a new house and leave the current one due to any reason; if the reason is because of any damage than it can be solved by renovating it. JDL Construction - Home renovations Brisbane provides comprehensive remodeling of domestic homes.

    Ormiston College

Hi All, Has anyone got kids at Ormiston College, Brisbane? Based on research on this forum and elsewhere (including there impressive naplan results) we really liked the look of the school (although we've never been or had a tour) & have applied for places for our three daughters, in readiness for us finally making the move over later this year. As we anticipated when we submitted the enrolment forms, they don't currently have any 'in year' places for our girls, but we're on the waiting list. Does have anyone have any experience of how long the waiting lists are at Ormiston? We've not really been able to pin this down with them to anything other than a place 'could become available at anytime' We don't really want to have to start them in a the local state catchment school then move them again as and when places become available. They would be going into year 4, year 1 & prep. We visited the Redeemer Lutheran School when we came over to activate our visas, seemed very friendly & at the time they had placed for all 3 of our daughters, but at the time we weren't ready to make the move. We'd still consider this School - but on balance would prefer to be further towards Bayside (Ormiston, Wellington Point, Cleveland areas of Brisbane). Has anyone recently enrolled at at The Redeemer? If so were places still available or again is there now waiting lists here as well?

    Brisbane property market

Hi Everyone, My family and I are on the verge of deciding to move from the UK to Brisbane. We're hoping to live in one of the family friendly suburbs not too far from the city. Can anyone give any advice on the property market? Is it changing much? Are prices going up? Staying flat? Also, is there a good time during the year to buy? We're trying to work out when to move and I'd like to try to buy at the best time. Thanks is in advance for any advice. Mark

  17. I see that many people wonder 'where to live?' when moving to Australia (especially if they don't have family here already). I came here from New Zealand nearly 20 years ago with my Pommy ex-husband and we headed straight to Queensland as I had a sister here. The Redcliffe Peninsula is just 30 minutes north of Brisbane and so has access to all major city facilities. For many years it was a sleepy seaside village but now has 55,000 residents and is predicted to have significant capital growth. There are now many new apartment complexes on the waterfront, sensational canal homes as well as a variety of other real estate options. If you would prefer a 'sea-change' rather than living in a tight-knit suburb, then consider the Peninsula. You can find fabulous beachside properties at very reasonable prices. If you have friends or relatives living at North Lakes, Queensland already - it's just 10-15 minutes from them. I'd love to show you around... Happy New Year! Karen

Hi everyone. I am currently living in Australia but have not been able to sell my house in West Yorkshire (Todmorden) as yet. I am ideally looking for a house around South East Queensland as I have a business in Brisbane. Here is a link to my house in England. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-...?premiumA=true Please contact me if you are interested.

  23. Hello. So to very quickly give some crucial info and get straight to the point. I am on a WHV currently ready to transfer to defacto with my partner. However due to irrelevant circumstances i don't have the 4750$ necessary and need to get a loan or by other means. I have until december 30th to get it. I am a US citizen, she is full from birth Australian. We both have unblemished but at the same time blank credit history. If anyone has knowledge or experience that could help us in securing a loan of 4750$ or otherwise securing that money i would be forever indebted.

    Moving to Brisbane in September

Hi! I am emigrating, with my family, in September of this year to Brisbane. My husband and I (41 & 42) have two young children (4 & 2) and are looking for people to meet up with for chat / laugh / drink / food etc. Once we arrive, we will be staying in a short term let close to the CBD until we secure a longer term rental probably in the southern suburbs. Please get in touch if you are so inclined!

    Brisbane Gay Community?

Hi Poms My girlfriend and I have just been granted our 189 visa and will be moving to Brisbane early 2014. My brother and his wife are living there already so we already have an in-built social circle to stop us getting lonely, but would really like to know if there is much of a gay girl social scene in Brisbane. Im not on about clubs and bars but more meet-ups, meals and general chit chat. I've only ever spent a few weeks at a time in Brisbane so my knowledge of events and groups is very limited. I lived in Sydney for 6 months about 10 years ago and really liked the close scene they had in some of the suburbs. Anyuway, I've gone on way too much! If you have any advice or no of any community events please post me. Lau
