  4. Just wondered if anybody had been through breaking a lease early. We are leaving a tenancy before the end of the lease and have been told we will be responsible for the rent up to them finding a new tenant. We unfortunately signed up for 12 months and will have 6 months left on it when we return to UK. Obviously I am a little concerned if they do not find another tenant quickly leaving us to pay the rent for possibly 6 months!! The property we are in is really nice but there does seem to be other properties in the area that are not renting out and which are cheaper than ours. Anyone got any information or any advice which would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  6. People who are leaving the UK are worried that they are doing the right thing…some will jump on every bit of negative news to make themselves feel better about the move, in fact the worse news that comes out the more justified they feel about the move….this is natural and really should be taken into account when replying to someone who goes on about the woes of the UK. Just a thought.
  7. Hi everyone, i got a feeling this is going to be quite a long thread so i apologise now and go grab yourself a cup of coffee lol  The problem is im so scared to tell my parents that we want to move to oz and just wondered if anyone in similr situation can give me any tips on how to bring it up and what to say. I sound so stupid im 28 with 3 kids and i cant talk to my parents about the most exciting thing that could/hopefully be happening to me. You see im really the only closest family she has i have 2 sisters one of my sisters went off the rocks and none of us including my parents have seen/spoken to her for nearly 11 years and my other sister is so up her own backside that she only really has anything to do with us unless it benefits her, i see my mum and dad regulary and they adore their grandchildren aged 12, 6 and 2, they've helped us out so much over the past few years what with my abusive past relationship and the ongoing counselling im havin now, im with a fantastic bloke now who they love but we've had nothing but problems the main one going bankrupt last year and through all of this they've been there by our side. I could cry just thinking of leaving them but i know it has to be done but i cant see that they will see it the same way and possibly not speak to us for quite a while which is what i dont want. I dont want them to feel that im running away or that im throwing all their help back in their faces, i couldnt sleep last night as i kept going over it all in my head. I want to share all this with them and be able to talk openly with them about every step whether it be good or bad that we take to fulfill our dream not hide it from them like a dirty secret. which is what it feels like at the moment as close family and friends know so we talk about it and then when my parents come in the room everything goes quiet- not good!!! Anyway i think i better stop now as i could go on and on i hope you dont mind me ranting on like some mad woman im just hopeing someone's been in a similar situation and can offer me some advice - thanks Oh by the way my parents arent into the computer thing so me saying that to them isnt going to help lol We have decided to buy them all a web cam as a leaving present if we do get it though. Ang:wubclub:

    Make or Break

Hi All Have seen advertised on tv here in Oz a new series with Robson Green in "Make or Break" a world premier wednesday march 19th - could be quite a good one to watch (hes a great actor) Statistics show that every three minutes a British national packs their bags and starts a new life overseas. A staggering one out of ten Brits has emigrated, and 1.3 million of those currently reside in their top immigration destination – Australia. Ask any of those migrants their reason for wanting to come and their answers will involve some fairly standard responses - climate, house prices, career prospects, quality of life and cheaper education. Ask them their reasons for leaving however and the answers will be far more varied, far more personal and far more interesting… Make or Break follows one couple’s move to Sydney, with their own special reasons for leaving the UK. Englishman Neil (Robson Green), upon discovering his wife Kate (Helen Thompson) has had an affair with a fellow teacher at her school, decides to distance himself from the source and relocates his family to Australia for a fresh start. They move in with Kate’s sister Beth (Susie Porter) and her Australian partner Matt (Jack Finsterer) on Sydney’s northern beaches but soon discover that problems don’t necessarily improve with a change of location. Neil finds himself unable to shake the memories of Kate’s deceit and she suggests a somewhat novel solution to wipe the slate clean - he should do the same. Neil should cheat on her – and he has her full permission, support and encouragement! What many married men may think the ultimate reprieve, Neil - hapless, hopeless and completely out of practice - struggles with the search for the woman that will either make or break his marriage. …and he finds he doesn’t have to look as far as he thought…. 12. Oh god, one more thing to add to the list of happenings here. Our rental agents rang us earlier and advised us that the owner wants to sell the property. Our rental agreement is until September but they want to know if we are willing to move earlier and that the owner will "look after is" of course most of this is crap. I wondered if anyone has been in this situation and what they did. Thanks in advance. Em x

    How to break the news?

My husband and I are planning on starting the process of moving to Oz with our three young children - I just cant bring myself to tell the rest of my family, such as my sisters and my parents, they will be devastated - so much so that I am beginning to change my mind! Is there anyone out there who went through a similar thing?? Some reassurance would be great!

    DIMIA Xmas Break

Does anyone know if DIMIA closes for a long Christmas break? If so when does it start and for how long? I'm wondering whether to wait until they come back from their break before sending our visa application off - I don't want it burried beneath tons of untended post for days on end  Karen
  16. Hi everyone My name is Andrea and my partner (Steve) and I are looking to do some work in Australia for 4-5 months or so over the winter period whilst our house in France is for sale. We also have a house in England but don't want to return there! My partner is an Engineer (electronics) and I am a teacher (IT and English) but I don't really want to teach formally anymore. We would consider any type of work and have just finished a complete renovation on our French property, I was trained in secretarial work and Steve has run his own plumbing and heating business in the UK. We would consider doing just about anything in these fields, but are quite happy with casual fruit picking, etc etc. Any advice about whether we need visas, what sort, how to get one etc or do we just arrive as tourists and search for some work then? Thanks for any replies! Andrea and Steve from Torquay, UK/Cahors, France
