Hi all Does anyone know whether you can re-direct mail to an Australian PO Box? We are moving to Melbourne at the end of October and staying in temp accommodation for the first 6 weeks. We therefore don't want the mail re-directed to that address. Or does anyone know of any other way or is it just best to have it directed to family in the uk? Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks Tara

Hi, PROSPECTIVE MARRIAGE VISA LODGED/ WHAT MAY THE TOURIST VISA REQUIREMENTS BE?) Madly in love with my aus fiance - we met in Scotland (my land)in March 11 and fell pregnant within that month. We lived together for 3 months until we made the decision to move back to Oz to live and raise a family. My fiance had taken a year career break over here and has now moved back to her excellent job in the Australian Government - i plan to join her in a month. It is now September and we have not yet lodged the prospective marriage visa. But when we do in a week, I am hoping we can get a CO asap and advise them of my intention on heading over early for the arrival of our baby. Q1. Does anyone know if you still need to meet the tourist visa criterion i.e $3000 for 3 months and $6000 for 6 months etc or as she has a job with maternity pay, they may waiver the criterion a little due to her income supporting me? I am a chef but there is no work in scotland so we have found the last 4 months hard trying to save for PMV and flights along with bills being executed over here. Thank you for reading my post. Q2? Can you call up and get a CO immediately for a PMV?

Hey all, When I get my visa sorted Im planning on taking my car plus most of my posessions i.e. TV and clothes! (Wont be taking furniture etc). So my original plan was to take the car roll on roll off for about £800- £1000 and put the stuff in the car but apparently I cant do this. So the next plan is to get a 20ft container or half a 40ft container. Does anyone have experience of shipping a 20ft or half a 40ft and how much approximately am I looking at? Can anyone reccomend a good company? Thanks for your help

I am hoping to work for 6 months in a hotel or pub next year. Ideally I would want to secure the job before I flew out there. I would only be able to work for 6 months but with the exchange rate now it would be well worth it. Does anyone know if agencies or companies will hire temps with Skype interviews or video conferencing? This would save risky one way trips with no guarantee of a job. I will have health insurance and visa already in place from my first Aus trip so itll be a simple case of flying out there.

Do I have to tell my mortgage provider that I'm moving to Aus?
Guest posted a topic in Money & Finance
I've had a mortgage for several years, and have had consent to let to rent out my flat to tenants for the last 3 years. I'm now thinking about moving to Australia - do I have to tell my lender? I've heard rumours that they are not happy about lending to expats in Aus (though I obviously already have my mortgage in place). Also, I currently have tenants, but in a few months time my friends are going to move into my flat for a while. Do I have to tell my mortgage provider who is staying there? Surely it's up to me where I live, and who lives in my flat as long as I still pay the mortgage?! Especially since I have permission to lease. My concern is that telling them anything these days opens up an opportunity for them to increase my mortgage rate (it's not currently fixed). Thanks! -
The mother in laws coming up to her 60th, anyone know if we can book her a flight from Australia through uk sites travel supermarket, expedia opodo ... for her to come out here. It makes sense what with the exchange rate in our favour and saves buying a crappy gift.

I'm from the school of thought that Australian television is mostly a pile of absolute crap. Tbh the tv only really tends to be on during the daytime, on abc4kids which is pretty much like cbeebies. Once the kids have gone to bed there's usually nothing worth watching so I've stopped bothering to look. Recently however, me and mrs harpo have been enjoying Silent Witness and Misfits. The latter is channel 4 at it's best: innovative, hilarious and very well written. Also we like Miranda. In terms of aus shows, I used to like the 7:30 report before Kerry obrien got shipped off elsewhere. Foreign correspondant is also very good. What shows do you watch and enjoy on oz tv? Do you watch live tv or do you use catch up versions like abc iview?

Simple question really, where we live in the uk we have 4 or 5 chinese takeaways within a mile or so that deliver, its only a quid or free if spending £12 or over,so is the situ similar in oz?or do distances preclude this?in particular im talking South Australia, also just interested in chinese food in oz in general,as i assume choice will vary a lot between states. Just thought i'd ask about one of my fav foods because there seems plenty of info on Indian food, curries etc which im not overfussed on tbh. So whats your opinion on chinese food in oz and the choice/availability in your state?:wubclub:

We fly out on 6th December to Brisbane but hope to be living in Sydney by late December/early January but our main concerns are; 1) Whats the cheapest way of getting our two cats to Aus? and 2) How easy is it to rent accommodation (flats) in the main cities (Sydney/Brisbane) with pets. We have two cats and will seek unfurnished properties but uncertain whether or not people rent flats out to people with cats?

See the headline on newscom this morning 1000 jobs tipped to go at BlueScope steel as manufacturing industry braces for crisis Read more: http://www.news.com.au/business/jobs-tipped-to-go-at-bluescope-steel-as-manufacturing-industry-braces-for-crisis/story-e6frfm1i-1226119302217#ixzz1Vh2SlZzs 200 jobs are going at Westernport and that will make a big dent on business in and around the Mornington Peninsula. Suppliers etc. Blue Scope has always been a big employer in this area. Its not just the jobs at the plant its the contractors and truckies who carry the steel from the mill. High dollar is blamed but lets face it labour costs will be at the back of it.

PLEASE HELP! has anyone gone from a working holiday visa to a 457 in aus?
Guest posted a topic in Visa Chat
Hi All, I would really like some advice, I have been reading up on various other posts and the immigration website and I am still baffled as to how this all works. Me & my partner went to Perth for a 3 week holiday just recently, prior to this he already had contacts with potential employers so whilst we was there he attended interviews etc, he has got a job and is hoping to go out on a working holiday visa in October, the potential employer has said once he has worked for them for a month, if he likes my partner and via versa then they will sponsor him on a 457. Has anyone else been in this situation??? The reason as to why I am stressing is because we have two lovely doggies which we are bringing with us, I haven’t started the process with them yet but will do by the end of the month. My partner is leaving me behind to go and start work for this employer soon, the reason why I am staying behind is because of the doggies and was hoping to be out by December with them as well, but me obviously on a working holiday until his got the 457 sponsorship. I have heard from different people about the defacto partner etc saying we need to prove this and that but I do not think this is relevant as I will be going onto his 457 as a 2nd applicant? Any advice would be very much appreciated!!!:arghh: Kate -

Hi there Guys, Im really hoping you can help me. Myself and my partner have decided that we have had enough of the UK for a lot of reasons and want to start a new life in Australia. We have heard a lot of brilliant reports about the way of life and career opportunities and decided that we are going to go for it. One problem though, we do not have a clue how to start the process. We are looking to be coming over within a few years so that it is not a rushed job and we are financially secure and would like ideas from you on where to start looking to live including, education as we have a 3 yr old son, best career opportunities, value for money property, and the all important one, how do we get into the country. This is not going to be for a trip for a couple of years, this is going to be a new life for us so as much help as you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. Gareth Any ideas please Pm me please -
