  1. Hi everyone. Can anybody recommend some decent areas to live in and around Sydney's CBD? My employer is based on Kent Street, just east of Darling Harbour and south of Millers Point (nearest train station is Wynyard I believe?). Ideally I'm looking for an area that is a 30 minute bike ride away, has some parks for walking my dog, has a beach nearby (possibly 5-10 min walk away) and has a good access to local transport i.e. monorail system. I'm 33 so I'd also like to be close to areas where local cafe's, bars and sport centres are situated. Any help would be most appreciated.
  2. Hey My partner is currently working as an offshore wind turbine technician, we are currently looking into emigrating to oz with our 2children, does anyone know if there is a high demand for workers in this sector & if so where abouts in oz would be the best place to look at moving to? He also has 12yrs exp in mechanical engineering, hrdraulics, diesel generators ets? any help would be much appreciated
  3. Hi I have a new job in Oz - just by circular quay and the rocks and i am not sure where to live. I am 29 years old, still like going out and enjoying myself. The most important thing is that i want to be able to walk from my flat and go surfing every morning? Does anyone have any recommendations of where to live? i think Bondi might be a bit much - but a few people have mentioned Manly and Bronte? Thansk everyone for your help bdobson
  4. Hi all I,m new to this but glad I found this site as alot of interesting and useful info on here. Me and wife with 2 kids aged 3 and 1 will be moving to perth in summer time and were wonderein if an income of 80k between us would be managable. I know there is child benefit availabe{travelling on 175 visa} but cant seem to find prices of child care so if anyone in similar situation to us any prices would be greatfully accepted. thanks
  5. Hi, Just looking into Queensland and property seems a lot dearer than a couple of years ago. We are a family of four (2 children - 8yrs and 5 yrs) so would need a 3 bedroom house. Our budget would be max $340k (£200k). I have looked at all the recommended areas on this forum and it is a struggle to find such property in what is classed a 'decent' area. Can anyone please recommend any areas that is commutable to Brisbane and no more than $340? There must be many migrants now who are worrying if house prices keep going up QLD will no longer be an affordable option. Thanks, Ken.
  6. Hi Pio We are moving over to Perth in Jan and we was wondering what the best areas are for renting. My partner will be working in the city so we would like somewhere fairly close and at a reasonable price say $300-$400 rent. We was looking at Scarborough, North Beach, Doubleview, Trigg. And we also really liked Connelly & Currambine areas too but not too sure if these will be too far from the city. Would be very grateful for any advice. Thanks :jiggy:

    Regional or Urban areas

Hi everyone, am new to the forum and hoping to get some answers. Am a midwife in the UK with 2 job offers both in WA. One is in Perth and the other is in Kargoolie which I understand is a mining town. I don't know which to go for and why. All I know is that I want to relocate to WA. Cheers:confused:
  8. Hi, I'm trying to find an area with a good state primary school, and around 30-40 mins commute to the city for my husbands work. We would be looking to pay around $900pw in rent and its starting to look like this is not enough money as it doesn't seem to get you a nice place in the good areas. I have been looking all over at places like Vaclouse, Manly, Rose bay, Neutral bay, freshwater, North Curl curl etc. I would REALLY appreciatte some advice, Many thanks, Kerry
  9. Hi to all, Would anyone like to comment about finding jobs if your not a skilled worker? Husband in Motorcycle Trade for 20 years (parts Manager) I have been in Medical for along time, Private and NHS, Admin and Clerical. Also worked in retail (supermarkets), waitressing, but would try anything, (within reason) as long as it pays the bills. It is a big concern of ours as we will be bringing a certain amount of money with us (or transfer it), so don't want to run out of money and then start to panick if we havent found jobs. Shall we bring our CV's with us to show to employers? Is it best to find jobs through agencies, newspapers etc... or through friends and family?:arghh: We would ideally like to find permanent jobs and don't mind a bit of travelling. I would like to find a job in a Private Hospital or medical centre or something along those lines. I currently work in a private hospital in UK. Should we ask our current employers for references (and character) and take them with us? Look forward to hearing from anyone.

    Mackay...Daycare, areas etc

Hi there, any help would be gratefully received. My husband, two children (2 & 4 years) plus me are looking to relocate to Mackay from Sunny Coast as I'm hoping to start Uni next year (a bit old but hey!). I really want to get some recommendations for day care centres as there can be a big difference between centres as I have come to realise. We are not sure where we are going to live probably Northern beaches area but never been to Mackay so any help is very welcome.
  11. Hi all, I'll be moving to Sydney on a 457 visa in a few weeks. I have a place to stay sorted for 1 month, and am starting to look for longer term rented accommodation. I'll be working in the CBD (Sussex Street) and would like to live somewhere within a 30 minute commute maximum (either by public transport of by car if the accommodation allows for one). My budget is around $200 - $400 pw; ideally I'd like a 1 bed flat but I'd happily consider a flat share. I've started to look around on sites like www.domain.com.au and www.realestate.com.au. There's plenty of choice, but I don't know much about the different areas, commute times etc... so I'm having trouble narrowing down my options. What are the best areas to live for easy access to the CDB? Which areas are more rough and worth avoiding? Cheers, -R
  12. Can anyone please recommend good schools in these areas with positive results etc.... My son will be 7 by the time we come over. Look forward to any replies-also private schools too.

  19. We just moved last week and have spent the past 5 days frantically looking for a 3/4 bed house in the south east suburbs. So far I like Elwood and Brighton but there is very little on offer. We have applied for 2 (Elwood and Caulfield) and I wanted some advice on which to take assuming we are lucky enough to get both offers accepted that is!. I have a 10 week old baby and a 2 year old toddler and really want an area where there is childcare and activities for them (plus a social life of sorts for me!)
  20. Hi I am considering a job that is based in the areas around Ballina NSW. I know nothing about the area and would appreciate any advice. I am a single female 31 with no kids so schools and such like are not really an issue. I'm a big city person but will want to be able to get out and about (I need to meet a man!), also like a bit of a shop now and again. I know its not too far from the Gold Coast, and close to Byron Bay. Also my mum (aged 65) will also be eventually joining me and I want to make sure she will be fine there too. Many thanks for any info!!!

    Point Cooke / Altona Areas

Hi We are looking at lots of areas in Melbourne and like the look of these places. It would be useful to get peoples opinions about them especially if your already living there. Interested in facts about shopping, schools, commuting, beaches and houses or anything you can tell us that would be useful LOL. Cheers Linda
