  1. we were granted our visas on Monday and we are excited about validating them next summer. I am a teacher so we will spend 5 weeks next summer looking around. My husband works in insurance and has contacts in Sydney, but we are not clued up on the best areas for young families. I am 31 and myhusband is 32 and we have 2 children, a 3 year old and 4 month old. some friends of ours suggested Terrigal but that seems too far from Sydney. Can anyone recommend areas closer? I've heard Coogee is good and Kingsford? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. From excited and aprehensive Tinkerbell
  2. Hi , we are moving over by March 2012 . I am looking at catholic schools around the shire area (caringbah /miranda/ sylvania)and possibly the hills areas. We have a Boy age 9 born 04/2002 and Girl 7 born 06/2004 and as they are currently attending a Cofe school here i wanted them to attend a catholic school over there. Does anyone know what chances there are off getting them a catholic school place mid term next year? I know our local uk church school is full and the waiting list is extensive but thought as you have to pay for the church schools there maybe there would be places or is that being optomistic? Could anyone also advice what school year they would be in ?? I think eldest would be year 5 on arrival and youngest year 3 is that correct?? My youngest is nearly 3 born 12/2008 could anyone tell me when she would be due to start kindergarden? And again what the waiting lists are like for preschools over there?? Thanks in advance for any help (finding it hard to get my head round their schools ) Mandy
  3. Hi We are moving from Perth to NSW at the end of January 2012 and are looking for a property to rent or hopefully house sit for up to 4 weeks whilst we look for our own properties. There will be 8 of us plus 2 elderly dogs. We can provide references from real estate agents whom we have rented from in Perth. We are more than happy to look after peoples pets/properties if it is a house sit. Many thanks Penny x

    Pottsville Area primary schools?

Hi, We are currently living on the sunshine coast but finding work hard to come by and may need to move down to NSW for my husbands job. Found the school that my two boys (8 and 5) go to here a little big(around 1200) pupils and would love to move them to a smaller school more like the one they come from in the uk. Does anyone know of any good smaller size(about 400-500 pupils) schools around the Byron Bay - Pottsville area?????? Also what areas are nice to live? Would be most grateful for any information anyone can give!

  7. So we have been here for 18 Months now. Before we set off on this adventure we had every intention of putting ourselves out there! and finding a new great social circle. But as with everything else (work mainly) it has been all to easy to sit back until you suddenly realize your life is not quite how you had planed it! We have some friends but they are all NOR which is just a little far to travel for a beer. (especially when you've had a few to many ) SO HERE COMES THE PLEA! Friends now wanted SOR, nothing to heavy just the odd BBQ/get together with the obvious addition of beer & wine... I am a plumber and turned 40 this year my wife is 41 although we still feel 30ish, young at heart! We have two Children a girl aged 15 and a boy aged 13. If there is anyone out there who would like to meet up and see if we have anything in common we are more than up for it. Cheers Rob.
  8. My husband is trying to find a mining job and we see a lot going on in Perth but the cost of houses has scared up off. What is the normal cost of living there? can we live on that? If not we would like to look at the greater Gympie area. What do you think?

Advice on area and busy estate agents!

Hello again!! We are still in Bali but trying now to complete our application to estate agents remotely before we arrive in Canberra early december... the tricky thing is we have no idea where is best to concentrate our search and which agent to choose! We only know that we will be looking to live nearish the french/ australian school of Telopea, or at least on the right side of town to the school. Any advice on areas down south? Any big and busy estate agents you would recommend?? Is Red hill good, very expensive? Our budget, probably around the 600$ a week. We chatted to Peter Blackshaw on Skype, nice guy and seems busy but i know he has a lot of people on his books... Can't wait to actually see the place. sophie.
  12. My husband and I and our 2 boys aged 8 and 5 have just moved to Mountain Creek and would love to hear of anyone else in the area (Mooloolaba/Buderim/Sippy Downs) Boys have just started school at Mountain Creek, husband started work and I am a bit of a loss!! Not working until after school holidays so would be lovely to hear from any other mums in the area!
  13. Hi all If possible mods could this be made a sticky to help future enquiries? We are just about to start applying for nursing jobs at hospitals in the sunshine coast, Gold coast and Brisbane. It would really help us a lot if the nurses amongst us could just briefly post a contact name and e mail address on whom to contact regarding employment. To keep it concise if we could keep it to just the info and no banter that would be brilliant. LOL:policeman: That way it can become a definitive list. Many thanks JOHN AND LISA
  14. Mechanic vacancy in Woolloongabba Brisbane. Must be able to work on any car, old or modern and be self motivating. Very busy workshop, good pay. Pm for more info.
  15. Hiya all! I have already asked this question on Perth Poms but the only reply received up to now is a link to an agents website ... last updated 2010! Can any one on here help? I am totally confused about where to start with a visa application ... so I'll tell my story right from the beginning! I am a Primary School Teacher, 33 years old with family in Mandurah who are willing to sponsor us with our application. My job has come off the SOL 1 and I have been advised by an agent that I can only go to SA with my qualifications. Although I am not totally against going to SA, I would ideally like to go straight to Mandurah to be near my family and do not want to move my children (aged 8 & 5) twice. A post on PIO states that Perth has become a Regional Area and I was wondering if this would help my application? Can my family sponsor me ... will I receive points for this rather than applying for state sponsorship? This would be an ideal situation as the alternative is to apply on my husbands skills as a floor fitter (time served) but he does not have any formal qualifications so would have to take the AQF III and is also fast approaching 40 so we will lose point on his age. Any advice would be truly appreciated as we really are going around in circles at the moment! Thanks, Eve

  18. Hi my sister and brother in law are coming to visit us in Brisbane and want to go to Sydney for new year from 28 - 3 Jan. They have to go there as their flight is from there and cannot change it and need accommodation. They are willing and happy to pay for someone to put them up for 6 nights room only and they would be out most of time sight seeing. Could anyone put them up for a few nights? We've searched different accommodation but is coming up at 2k for a few nights and need cheaper options around $400 mark for 6 nights, is this realistic. They are happy to stay in someone's spare room. Any ideas anyone? They are early 30's no kids and good honest people. Thank you.
  19. Hello, My family and I migrated with my work to Melbourne 4 years ago, but we feel like a change and so will be moving to Perth at the end of the year. We have secured a rental in Woodvale (Northern coastal suburbs), but think would like to eventually buy in Duncraig or Marmion in a year or so. I have been looking at the MySchool website and the local school websites, but wondered if anyone has children at any of the Catholic schools in the area. My children attend a Catholic school in Melbourne and we are pleased with the level of education, so would like to continue with that kind of schooling. I have emailed a couple of schools, but they don't seem to answer. Does anyone know about the reputation of the following Catholic primary schools? St Lukes - Woodvale Liwara - Greenwood Whitfords Catholic- Hillarys Our Lady of Grace - North Beach St Lukes will be the closest, but as we will be moving when we buy, I would rather have a longer journey to drop them off to school initially and at least they (hopefully) won't need to change schools again. Thanks in advance for your help. Mairi
