  1. Hi There Was wondering if anyone could advise how best to go about organising the short term rental I'd need when I first arrive in Perth? As a guide, budget would be $400 per week and should preferably contain 2 bedrooms, although it's not required for a few months yet, I like to plan well ahead. Also, as we currently own a property with a mortgage, the obtaining of rental references towards the end of the stay would be handy. I'd certainly appreciate the guidance of people who have gone through the process, so thanks in advance for any guidance. Kind regards Ed

NOW PANICKING..... dont know how to get temporary accomodation in nambour area (or surrounding areas) also where do we get our belongings sent by our removal firm if we dont have an address. :jiggy:

  5. Hi to all, would like to pick your brains as hours on the internet is not getting me far !! We have a five and an eight year old and will be moving to the Caloundra area next year. Not too stuck to an area so just wondering about the primary schools. I have seen Currimundi and Caloundra, both looked lovely. Are there any other I have missed? Would really like to know how the catchment area's work and if there is something that could tell me that? Also did you register your children before you arrived or wait till you got there? Thanks for any info Judy
  6. After our last successful meet up. Anyone want to meet up this week? We've been to Portofinos in Quinns Rocks and we've done Beach Shack at Hillary's Harbour. Anywhere else that anyone would like to recommend? I think Hillarys was great as the wee beach and play area was lovely and the beach shack toy corner was a hit with the kids while we had coffee. I'm Pamela, 31 and have three brilliant babies, Doone who's 5 and will be in school this week, Newlin who's 3 and well up for meeting more friends and Maeryn who's 17 months and is always happy to say hello to other toddlers. I'm happy to travel as I have a car and sat nav but what say the rest of you busy Mums? Where suits yous and what day? I would say a morning after 1030 is best for me or afternoons that finish by 230 so I can pick up my school girl. Even better, meet UPS that are so successful we start ay 1030 and finish at 0230! Thoughts?

  11. we were granted our visas on Monday and we are excited about validating them next summer. I am a teacher so we will spend 5 weeks next summer looking around. My husband works in insurance and has contacts in Sydney, but we are not clued up on the best areas for young families. I am 31 and myhusband is 32 and we have 2 children, a 3 year old and 4 month old. some friends of ours suggested Terrigal but that seems too far from Sydney. Can anyone recommend areas closer? I've heard Coogee is good and Kingsford? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. From excited and aprehensive Tinkerbell

  14. Hi , we are moving over by March 2012 . I am looking at catholic schools around the shire area (caringbah /miranda/ sylvania)and possibly the hills areas. We have a Boy age 9 born 04/2002 and Girl 7 born 06/2004 and as they are currently attending a Cofe school here i wanted them to attend a catholic school over there. Does anyone know what chances there are off getting them a catholic school place mid term next year? I know our local uk church school is full and the waiting list is extensive but thought as you have to pay for the church schools there maybe there would be places or is that being optomistic? Could anyone also advice what school year they would be in ?? I think eldest would be year 5 on arrival and youngest year 3 is that correct?? My youngest is nearly 3 born 12/2008 could anyone tell me when she would be due to start kindergarden? And again what the waiting lists are like for preschools over there?? Thanks in advance for any help (finding it hard to get my head round their schools ) Mandy

    Pottsville Area primary schools?

Hi, We are currently living on the sunshine coast but finding work hard to come by and may need to move down to NSW for my husbands job. Found the school that my two boys (8 and 5) go to here a little big(around 1200) pupils and would love to move them to a smaller school more like the one they come from in the uk. Does anyone know of any good smaller size(about 400-500 pupils) schools around the Byron Bay - Pottsville area?????? Also what areas are nice to live? Would be most grateful for any information anyone can give!
  16. Hi We are moving from Perth to NSW at the end of January 2012 and are looking for a property to rent or hopefully house sit for up to 4 weeks whilst we look for our own properties. There will be 8 of us plus 2 elderly dogs. We can provide references from real estate agents whom we have rented from in Perth. We are more than happy to look after peoples pets/properties if it is a house sit. Many thanks Penny x
  17. Hi, we have just moved to Secret Harbour - staying with my sister, but will move after Christmas, as we are on a 475 visa and have visa restrictions. Therefore we are looking to live in 6210 post code, a little further south towards Mandurah... Lakelands, Meadow Springs, Madora Bay etc??? We are from Derby/Nottingham area, are 39/40 years young and have two children (daughter 13 & son 10 which are now enrolled in Secret Harbour schools).. My husband is a footie fan and having withdrawal symptons already!!! he is also looking for someone to play golf with.... I enjoy the gym/classes and have joined The Club at Port Kennedy and am trying to work on my tan.... but it keeps raining !!!! LOL. Anyone out there with children of similar ages and/or common interests????
  18. Hi, my husband and I now have our flights booked over to Melbourne for the 28th December. I previously asked about renting in Altona but based on advice we received here have decided to go for something on the Sandringham line or next to a tram stop that stops at Hight St/St Kilda (where husbands job is). We have therefore narrowed our search down to Hampton and Brighton but 3 bed houses seem quite expensive (we don't want to go above $500 per week). There are a few about which we are going to apply for but Brighton East seems more affordable - does anyone know what this area is like? We have a 5 month old baby and 2 labradors. Also, am I right in thinking that the closest train station to 600 St Kilda St is Prahan? Hawksburn seems about a 2K walk which isn't ideal. Any advice appreciated!

    Moving to Wodonga/Albury area

Hi everyone, I have recently secured a job in Wodonga and my employer has put in for sponsorship and nominated me for the position. I was told I have to wait until he is accepted before I can put in my application for 457 using the nomination reference he gets back. Not sure whether to apply myself online or use a broker. Any advice would be much appreciated from visa application proses to buying property and to contacting other Brits that are in the area. Regards, Andy

  22. My husband is trying to find a mining job and we see a lot going on in Perth but the cost of houses has scared up off. What is the normal cost of living there? can we live on that? If not we would like to look at the greater Gympie area. What do you think?

Any advice on the Forde area?

Well, with just over three weeks to go before I move from Leeds, to Canberra, my partner has managed to find a house for us to rent in Forde  I don't know a great deal about the areas in Canberra, even though Liz has been there 6 months and I visited earlier this year, but, it looks like it'll be quite a nice location as I have two dogs flying over and it appears there's plenty of grassland and ponds nearby to be able to walk them (although I know I can't walk them on Mulligans Flat). Plus I enjoy getting out on my mountain bike so I can literally ride my bike out of the garage and straight into the nature reserve. Would be nice to hear if anyone has any knowledge on the area that they might share? Thanks Paul
  25. Hi can anyone advise if the private schools in this area are all over subscribed. I have read many conflicting opinions but these go back 4-5 years, so was wondering what the current situation is like. Our children are in years prep , 4 and 9 as of the new school year jan 2012. They are not baptised into any faith. Many thanks
